Pearl Oyster Bar

Going to Pearl Oyster Bar without getting a lobster roll is kind of like going to Las Vegas and not gambling...your missing the main attraction.  But we've had so many lobster rolls it was time to check out the other goods on the menu like the shrimp cocktail. I can't even remember the last time I ordered this in a restaurant and I have no idea why.  These were plump, juicy and so perfect we agreed this will be a regular with our Lobster Roll rotation at Pearl. The Pan Roasted Scallops were also perfection; simply pan roasted with some butter and rosemary to allow the natural flavor of the scallop shine. Mr. T's Lobster followed suit with just a small bowl of butter and a ramekin of piping hot corn pudding.  This was fresh seafood at it's finest and we didn't really miss the lobster rolls!  Well maybe just a little bit... Return from Maine!

Image
Mr. T and I just spent a fabulous few days up in Maine and are just beginning to get back into the swing of things.  I took a much needed day off to recover and of course that means a fancy lunch! But this time I didn't do fancy- my obsession with lobster rolls reached an all time high in Maine and I just needed one more to seal the deal.  Pearl's was amazing as usual, plump with a ton of meat and those additive shoestring fries.  Full report of Maine food and beer next week! The First Lobster Roll of Summer!

Image
I don't know why it's taken me so long to get to Pearl this year.  Every time I come to this place I have an outstanding meal. We started with a pot of delicious steamers. Followed by a big, crisp Cesar Salad. Onto the ridiculously amazing Salt Baked Shrimp with that addictive tarter sauce. Scallops with roasted corn and tomatoes. And of course the Lobster Roll.  I know people argue back and forth about whose is best in the city but time and time again I come back to Pearl. All of this paired with a delicious glass of rose and completed with a Butterscotch Praline sundae. I enjoyed each and every moment of this meal.  The food and service were spectacular- no wonder Mr. T proposed to me after a meal here :) Pearl Oyster Bar

Anniversary Appetizers- Pearl Oyster Bar

Image
The very first time I came to NYC Mr. T took me to Pearl Oyster Bar for lunch.   I sat at the crowded bar (which was the only seating in the house back then) ordered that glorious, chunky roll with shoestring fries and suddenly NYC (and Mr. T for that matter) was looking pretty good.   Does this guy know the way to my heart or what?   So we began our one year anniversary celebration here but I decided to go with all new dishes- Salt Baked Shrimp. Somewhat similar to NY Noodletown but the whole shrimp, shell included, had been baked in the batter.   The accompanying homemade tarter sauce was out of this world and I’ve decided this will be my new appetizer at Pearl from now on.  Mr. T went with his usual bucket of steamers.     Then onto a whole grilled lobster. While I ordered the Pan Roasted Sea Scallops.    Browned to perfection on top and served with some crisp asparagus and a rich butter sauce. ...

Summertime is Meant for Steamers

Image
After a long hot day watching World Cup soccer at the Boat Basin I came home to Mr. T who was just finishing up work. Not being able to take the day off and drink beer and watch sports did not make him a happy camper. I knew only one thing would cheer him up- Steamers. We hopped in a cab and headed down to Pearl Oyster Bar. We put our name in, had a quick drink at Blind Tiger and were seated 20 minutes later at the bar. We always order the same exact thing every time we come here- steamers and a lobster roll. Here is our large pot of clams. These clams were quite a bit smaller than usual but maybe the season’s a little off. These little buggers are so incredibly tender and delicious. Simply slip off the black part, do a quick bathe in the broth, then a dip in the butter and voila! Seafood perfection! I could happily eat these all day. But then I wouldn’t have room for one of my favorite things ever- the Lobster Roll. I’ve written about this roll many times so I won’t go into ...

Return to Pearl Oyster Bar and A Big Surprise!

Image
So after our wonderful brunch at Onda on Saturday we spent the afternoon walking around the Seaport and enjoying the weather. We checked out the newly opened Water Taxi Beach. It’s kind of neat but kind of weird with people hanging out in bikini’s left and right. I mean it is a fake beach but it’s right near Wall Street right? Then it was time for the Yankees to play the Red Sox so we hopped in a cab and headed to the Blind Tiger to watch the game and enjoy some good beers. Now the plan had been to go to Blind Tiger and then run over to Pearl Oyster Bar at some point to put our name on the list. So about 6:45 I decided to check it out. I didn’t see any line while I was walking but I was still nervous. Pearl is ALWAYS packed. I looked inside and couldn’t believe what I was seeing! Tables, bar stools, empty! Lots of them! I went back and told Mr. T I didn’t think we had to worry. So we watched the rest of the game and returned about an hour later and got the last table in the b...

The First and Last Lobster Roll of Summer

Image
If you look back to my posts last summer you'll see that Mr. T and I pretty much were having a lobster roll a week! This Summer we decided we had to reign ourselves in a little but we did a little too much. We hadn't had one at all! You can actually get lobster rolls year round but there's something about having them in the summertime that just makes them extra good. So realizing that this was technically the last weekend of summer we knew we needed to get our Lobster Roll fill Stat. So we met up with some friends on Friday and headed to Pearl Oyster Bar. The place was packed as always so we put our name in and came back about a half hour later. We were told we would only have to wait a few more minutes so we took a seat in the window and had a drink. The few minutes turned into at least 20 minutes and I have to say I was getting anxious. It's hard watching everyone's food going by when you're starving and I thought about going somewhere else a few times but I a...
