My Dirty Obsession

Image
I have a secret...a secret dirty sandwich obsession that has been taking over my life the past six months- The Dirty Bird. Insanely moist and flavorful pulled chicken topped with big slabs of crisp bacon, Pepper Jack Cheese and some enormous onion rings. What’s not to love about this sandwich! It’s got all the textural elements I love and a ton of big bold flavors. It usually comes with a side of vinegar chips but I figured the bacon and rings were enough of a splurge last time so I subbed in a mixed greens salad instead. But I did need a little more badness…the serious delicious Multijito made with Montecristo and House made Citrus. I loved that the mint was on top and not all mashed inside and the citrus flavors are seriously refreshing. I’ve eaten this sandwich way too many times to mention in the last couple of months and it never fails to disappoint. I love that Wildwood always has the games on as well, usually with sound, and everyone working there is super nice. ...

Back to Wildwood

So even though I was extremely full from my enormous Croque at lunch, I found myself chowing down on some ribs late night at Union Square’s Wildwood. The night started at Shoolbreds, where we met up with some friends who were also enjoying the snow day. After many happy hour beers, we decided some food was in order. My friend was craving BBQ but of course all the best places- Rub, Blue Smoke, etc. were packed. Obviously on a Friday night you need a reservation for most any good restaurant in the city. Luckily we were able to snag a last minute Open Table reservation at Wildwood. We got seated at a large table in the back and started out with an order of the Double Cut Bacon trio and the Jalapeño Bottle Caps. (The lighting in here is really strange so the pictures came out a little weird) I thought the Jalapeño Bottle Caps were absolutely disgusting. Beer battered and fried jalapeño slices? I guess if you love jalapeños you might enjoy this dish but I found it to be pretty revolti...

Some Quick Updates

Just some things I've been doing lately that I cant write a whole long post about. Inoteca Liquori- love the space. Food was awesome as well. The octopus, prosciutto and affordable bottles of wine will keep me going back. The service could be a little tighter but it is about 10 times better overall than Bar Milano. Bespoke Chocolates- This is quickly becoming one of my favorite chocolate stores in the city. The French Milk Chocolate Bon Bon and Pretzel Carmel Delight are to die for. Plus the woman who owns it is super friendly and truly seems to love what she is doing. I really hope this place makes it. Wildwood BBQ- got the cheeseburger here and can't understand all the fuss about it. It was okay but nothing special in my book. However they continue to have a great selection of beer and nice open windows in front so that makes it a nice place to stop and grab a drink. Gramercy Tavern- went last weekend with Mr. T's wonderful Aunt & Uncle and it continues to wow. The Du...

A quick Update of some Seriously good Food.

So there were two points this past weekend where I was eating something and literally had to stop and take a moment because the food was that good. First up is the Cubano Sandwich from the Spotted Pig. Oh my goodness this is the best sandwich I have ever tasted in my life. For starters the bread has an excellent crunch and the insides are toasted and buttered with maybe a little garlic. Next is the amazing healthy serving of gruyere cheese which comes just oozing out of the sides of the sandwich. But oh wait...there is so much more. The slow roasted pork is incredibly mosit and melty, proababy due to the fact that it's cooked in duck and pork fat! Topped with pickled jalapeno peppers and an amazing Prosciutto de Parma it has all elements of a kick ass sandwich. It came with an arugla salad on the side which really helped to lighten the rich flavor of the pork although I would have enjoyed my sandwich either way! The other amazing thing I ate was the Beef Short Rib at the new BBQ jo...
