A Return to Mike A's

It's no big secret that a long leisurely lunch is my favorite thing in the world so when my parents asked what I wanted to do my first day back in Buffalo it was a no brainer- lunch at Mike A's!  I had a spectacular meal in the lounge area last year, filled with luscious Bone Marrow and a Foie Gras Burger that was everything fatty and rich that's wonderful in life.   This time it was a meal in the gorgeous main dining room. The lunch menu was incredibly small, only five options with a cup of soup to begin.  Luckily this soup was anything but ordinary. A creamy Mushroom Veloute arrived with such an incredible earthy aroma I wanted to hold the cup in my hands and just breathe it all in.  Topped with a dollop of creme fraiche and crumbled bacon it was an incredible start to the meal.  Unfortunately the burger was a bit of a let down.  It was seasoned perfectly and had a nice salty crust but both my fathers and mine were well over our spec...

It seems like ages ago now but I had a fantastic trip to Buffalo a few weeks back.  It's always wonderful to see family and friends but this time we threw in a little fine dining as well.  Have you ever seen such a massive and delicious looking Bone Marrow? Let's be honest now...when you hear the city of Buffalo, the last thing you think of is fine dining.  Believe it or not among the Chicken Wings, Beef on Weck and beers we have some pretty amazing restaurants and it just seems to be getting better.  The completely remodeled and revamped Lafayette Hotel which houses Mike A's simply oozes old world charm.   We started out in the Lounge area with some fabulous cocktails  like the Bitter Beginnings above and the Twinkle Toes below.
