Future Trends

Back on the 17th I speculated about my future given that I seem to not be able to hold a relationship together. Several folk commented that I need to work harder at it. Personally I think I just need to wait it out. It'd not surprise me if Lee and I end up married or something way down the line--of course given her age I'd best not wait too long. :-) If you're curious about why I say that. It's a fate thing. Now normally I don't give "fate" a whole lot of credence but in this case there's just too many wild coincidences involved. Here's a little comparison so you know what I mean. Lee is 10 years older than I am. Her father worked for the park service so her childhood was one of frequent moves. She lived all over the place. In her teens, say 15-18 she lived in this very small town--only a few hundred people--in upstate NY. From there she left for college in a town 5 hours away in western NY, not far from Rochester. After college was a marriage, so

Saturday in RTP

Lee and I stayed busy today. While we got off to a late start--don't ask--once we got in motion we managed to take a hike in Eno River Park, wandered the lovely Sarah Duke Garden at Duke University, and had a tasty and somewhat fattening repast at Bullocks, a Durham institution. These turtles were near a waterfall at Eno River. They don't seem to see eye-to-eye. It was funny to see them perched on that log like that, butt to butt (do turtles really have butts?). That one on the left is balanced on its belly with all 4 feet just moving away. I think it was dreaming about swimming. What a silly turtle. Just a few hundred feet down the trail from the turtles was that fellow below. He didn't seem to mind resting on my finger at all. It was kinda weird 'cause usually snakes don't like being held at first, but then settle down. This guy took to it right from the get go and really didn't seem to want to leave when I put him down. He was kinda cute too. Lee almost adopt

Weekend plans

Lee is prying herself away from her clowder of cats and is coming to visit me this weekend. She's supposed to arrive around noon--an hour from now--and I hope to scoot out of work around 2pm. By the time I get home she'll have had a chance to take a nap and recover from that nasty drive. I've got a couple of ribeyes for dinner tonight and during the course of the weekend we hope to visit the botanical gardens at Duke University, maybe the one at UNC, and hit a few restauants so she doesnt get tired of my cooking. Maybe we'll go to the State Zoo if her foot is up to the challenge. Lee had foot surgery a few months ago and is still getting her strength back. Hmmm. Grill some burgers on the back deck and maybe we'll see that new Indiana Jones movie too. Any suggestions of things to do? Nothing ribald, mind you.

A little too late

There's times when you just shouldn't hurry... But buying a decently priced leather sofa isn't one of those times. I was interested in buying this sofa off of Craig's List. The couch was listed late Friday night and I contacted the owner right away. I was going to look at it after work on Monday since the owner is located in the town where I work. Oops. It sold today at 5pm. The owner called me just a few minutes ago with the bad news. The reason I wasn't in a hurry is that I don't like this particular style of couch, but I definitely want leather and I really like the color.... I should have acted on it quicker. The area I'm in rarely has anything of this nature listed--Raleigh has them all the time but I don't want to drive 75 miles just to get a sofa. I'd be better off buying one new and having it delivered. Damn. Pretty leather. In other news, Lee is coming over to my place today. She's recovering from some surgery and isn't going back to

Snow in NC

Image
Like I mentioned in an earlier post, we got some snow on Saturday. This here's a picture I took at duck DUSK on Saturday. I used the flash to capture reflections from the snowflakes. Being crystals, they reflect quite well. Below there's three more pictures taken earlier in the day. I'll probably sprinkle more snowy pictures in over the course of the next week or so. I've just not downloaded the ones from my other camera yet--and am feeling too comfy sitting here with my hot chocolate to get up and go get it. :-) Outside, on the other hand, it's decidedly uncomfortable. It's 23f at 10am and the overnight low was 10f. That's way too cold for folk living this far south. Brrrr! I had to drip my faucet all night long to make sure my pipes didn't freeze. :-( In other news, Lee scooted out of here yesterday afternoon. Apparently some people make like migratory birds and move further south when the weather gets cold. :-p
