A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that Russia has continued a high tempo of offensive operations across multiple areas of the frontline.

In Russia's Kursk oblast, where Ukraine has maintained control of approximately 800-900 sq km of territory since mid-August 2024, Russian forces have begun a counter-offensive. Spearheaded by Airborne and Naval Infantry units, Russian forces have attacked Ukrainian positions in the west of the salient and have highly likely retaken several villages.

In eastern Ukraine, Russian forces have made gradual advances around Vuhledar and to the southeast of the logistics hub of Pokrovsk. However Russia has not advanced significantly towards Pokrovsk itself within the past week.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 137 combat clashes. Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively interrupt the attempts of the Russian enemy to advance into the depths of Ukrainian territory, giving him a fiery impression. The largest number of fights took place in the Pokrovsky and Kurakhivsky directions.

Russian zagarbniki carried out 56 air strikes on the territory of Ukraine, dropping 83 controlled aviation bombs. In addition, 428 kamikaze drones were recruited and carried out almost 2800 shelling at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces unsuccessfully tried to storm the positions of Ukrainian units in the Vovchanska area. At the same time, Russian aviation from the territory of the Russian Federation struck with controlled aviation bombs on the civilian infrastructure of the city of Kharkiv (four KABs) and the settlement of Ruska Lozov (two KABs).
In the direction of Kupyansky, Russian forces carried out offensive actions near synkivka, petropavlivka, kolisnikivka, glushkivka, kruglyakiivka and lozova. Eighteen fights completed, two more to go.
In the Lyman direction Russian invaders stormed the positions of Defense Forces near Druzhelyubivka, Kovalivka, Tverdohlibovoye, Nevsky, Makiyivka, Terniv and Novosadovoye. Ukrainian defenders stopped all enemy attacks.
In the sívers Іkomu direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 12 offensive actions of the Russian occupation troops in the areas of bílogorivka, verkhnyokamâns Сіkogo, viymki and Ivano-daryivka. So far, ten combat clashes are completed, two are still ongoing.
In the kramators Наkomu direction Russian forces stormed Ukrainian positions near stupočok and kurdûmívka. The Defense Forces stopped all attacks of the Zagarbnikív.
11 boêzítknen к took place in the Torets цьkomu direction. Russians stormed the positions of Ukrainian units near Toretsk, Dachny, Scherbinivka and Nelipivka. All the aggressor's attacks have been repelled.
On the Pokrovsky direction, from the beginning of this day, Russian forces attacked 34 times in the areas of Vozdvizhenko, Green Field, Novotoretsky, Hrodivki, Novogrodivki, and Marinivki. Ukrainian defenders have repelled 31 attacks, three clashes are still continuing.
Today 230 Russian invaders were defecated in this direction, 89 of them - irrevocably. Also destroyed the retransmitter and three units of automotive equipment.
In the Kurakhiv direction, Russian forces also made 34 attempts to break through Ukrainian defense near the Wanted Second, Ukrainian, Selidovoye, Dolinivka, Georgiyivka, Katerynivka and Konstantinivka. Twenty-seven boêzítknen продовжу completed, seven more to go.
In the Vremívs діkomu direction, Russian forces tried eight times to push Ukrainian units out of the occupied borders of defense near Vodyany, Katerinivka and Makarivka. There are still five attacks of the occupiers.
Eight attempts to attack Ukrainian positions were stopped in the Pridniprovsky direction by the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
In other directions - without much change.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in the Sever Group of Forces In Liptsy and Volchansk directions inflicted damage on formations of 57th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, 36th Marine Brigade, 113th and 127th territorial defence brigades near Liptsy and Volchansk (Kharkov region).

The AFU sustained losses amounted to up to 150 troops, five armoured fighting vehicles, four motor vehicles, a French-made 155-mm Ceaser howitzer, a 152-mm D-20 gun, three 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and a UK-made 105-mm L-119 gun.

The Zapad Group of Forces improved tactical situation, engaged manpower and military hardware of 44th, 54th, 60th, 63rd mechanised brigades, 3rd Assault Brigade of the AFU, 1st National Guard Brigade near Berestovoye, Kovsharovka, Peski-Radkovskiye, Novoyegorovka (Kharkov region), Krasny Liman (Donetsk People's Republic), and Serebryansky forestry.

The Russian units repelled three counter-attacks of 63rd Mechanised Brigade and 3rd Assault Brigade of the AFU. The enemy lost up to 570 troops, seven motor vehicles, a U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, a UK-made 155-mm FH-70 towed howitzer, a U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzer, a 155-mm Msta-B howitzer, two UK-made L-119 howitzers, and a U.S.-made AN/TPQ-50 counter-battery radar. Four AFU field ammunition depots were eliminated.

The Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. It also inflicted damage on formations of 28th and 30th mechanised brigades, 92nd and 95th air assault brigades, 5th Assault Brigade of the AFU, 114th, 241st territorial defence brigades near Fyodorovka, Seversk, Zvanovka, Stupochki, and Predtechino (Donetsk People's Republic).

The Russian units repelled three counter-attacks of 30th, 33rd mechanised brigades of the AFU and the Aydar Assault Battalion.

The AFU lost up to 765 troops, ten motor vehicles, a 152-mm D-20 gun, a 152-mm Msta-B gun, a 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, two UK-made 105-mm L-119 howitzers, a U.S.-made M119 gun, and five field ammunition depots.

The Tsentr Group of Forces continues to advance into the enemy's defence. The Group struck formations of 1st Tank Brigade, 32nd, 47th, 72nd mechanised brigades, 95th Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, and 109th Territorial Defence Brigade near Katerinovka, Nelepovka, Novoekonomicheskoye, Druzhba, Rozovka, and Konstantinovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

The Russian units repelled ten counter-attacks of 32nd, 53rd mechanised brigades, 68th Jaeger Brigade, 142nd Infantry Brigade, and 25th Air Assault Brigade of the AFU as well as of the 3rd and 12th national guard brigades. The enemy suffered losses of up to 545 troops, three pickups, a U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, two 152-mm Msta-B howitzers, a 122-mm D-30 howitzer, a 100-mm Rapira gun.

The Vostok Group of Forces of took more advantageous lines and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of 72nd Mechanised Brigade, 5th Tank Brigade of the AFU, 18th, 116th territorial defence brigades, and 21st National Guard Brigade near Ugledar, Novoukrainka, Dobrovolye, and Oktyabr (Donetsk People's Republic). One counter-attack launched by an assault detachment of the AFU 72nd Mechanised Brigade was repelled.

The enemy losses are up to 110 troops, two infantry fighting vehicles, two armoured fighting vehicles, and three motor vehicles.

The Dnepr Group of forces engaged a cluster of manpower and materiel of 118th Mechanised Brigade, 141st Infantry Brigade, and 128th Mountain Assault Brigade of the AFU, 123rd Territorial Defence Brigade near Pyatikhatki, Zherebyanka, Novodanilovka (Zaporozhye region), and Novoraisk (Kherson region). The AFU losses amounted to up to 75 troops, two tanks, five motor vehicles.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces hit a railway train with foreign-made weaponry, an artillery and missile armament depot, stocks of uncrewed surface vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles, a warehouse producing components for operational-tactical missiles, and clusters of manpower and materiel in 148 areas.

The Russian Aerospace Forces have downed two Su-27 fighter jets of the Ukrainian Air Force during the past 24 hours.

Air defence units shot down one MiG-29 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force and intercepted a U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectile, four French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, and 55 unmanned aerial vehicles, including 22 outside the special military operation zone.

In total, 645 airplanes and 283 helicopters, 31,609 unmanned aerial vehicles, 579 air defence missile systems, 18,144 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,454 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 14,622 field artillery guns and mortars, as well as 26,102 units of support motor vehicles have been destroyed during the special military operation.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Sever Group of Forces carrying on offensive actions inflicted damage on the 22nd, 41st, 61st, and 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd and 95th air assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the 112th, 129th territorial defence brigades near Lyubimovka, Novoivanovka, Daryino, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Pokrovsky, and Borki.

Over the past 24 hours, the Group's units repelled two enemy's counter-attacks in the direction of Lyubimovka and Malaya Loknya. The Russian units disrupted two enemy's attempts to attack in direction of Viktorovka, Olgovka, and Kremyanoye. The AFU losses amounted to up to 25 troops killed and wounded, one APC and two armoured fighting vehicles. Five AFU servicemen surrendered.

Over the past 24 hours, with support of army aviation and artillery, the Group's units repelled six enemy's attempts to break through the border of the Russian Federation in the direction of Novy Put, Vesyoloye, and Medvezhye. The AFU lost up to 60 troops killed and wounded, three tanks, an APC, and five armoured fighting vehicles,

Air strikes, artillery fire, and actions of the troops inflicted fire damage on clusters of manpower and hardware of the 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanised brigades, 80th and 95th air assault brigades, 129th Territorial Defence Brigade near Guyevo, Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Kolmakov, Kruglenkoye, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Mirny, Nikolo-Daryino, Novoya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Obukhovka, Russkoye Porechnoye, and Yuzhny.

Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops launched strikes against clusters of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, mechanised brigades, 82nd Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, 1st Presidential Brigade, and 103rd and 106th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Belpolye, Vodolagi, Zhuravka, Obody, Katerinovka, Rechki, Pavlovka, Sosnovka, Sumy, Khoten, Yunakovka, Yastrebinoye, and Yampol.

For the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 300 troops, 22 vehicles, including three tanks, four APCs, 15 armoured fighting vehicles, an artillery gun, and eight motor vehicles. Seven AFU servicemen surrendered.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost more than 13,400 troops, 113 tanks, 44 infantry fighting vehicles, 91 armoured personnel carriers, 718 armoured fighting vehicles, 431 motor vehicles, 96 artillery guns, 26 MLRS launchers, including seven of HIMARS and five of MLRS, eight SAM launchers, two transport-loading vehicles, 26 electronic warfare stations and seven counter-battery radars, two air defence radars, 13 engineering vehicles, including two counterobstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
