Russo-Ukraine War - 09 September 2024 - Day 929

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that Ukrainian strike at Marinovka Air Base in the Volgograd region of Russia on 22 Aug 2024 caused widespread destruction to key infrastructure and equipment. The strike resulted in: 4 destroyed aircraft shelters, 3 damaged aircraft shelters, a destroyed radome, destroyed support buildings and destroyed open storage area facilities.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian soldiers continue to decisively give an offence to the Russian enemy's attempts to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him an effective fire effect, exhausting him across the frontline and in the rear.

Since the beginning of the day, 147 combat clashes have been recorded.

Russian invaders launched two missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine, using two missiles, 71 air strikes (dropped 91 KAB), also launched 593 kamikaze drones. Along with that, Russian forces carried out 3,751 shelling on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Kramators Наkomu direction, Russian forces carried out two assault actions in the area of the White Mountain. The situation is under the control of Defense Forces units.

The high intensity of combat is maintained in the Pokrovsky direction. The number of confrontations has increased to 33. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Liptsy and Volchansk directions, the Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on the 92nd Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and 113th Territorial Defence Brigade close to Liptsy, Goptovka, and Volchanskiye Khutora (Kharkov region).

Two counter-attacks launched by assault groups of the AFU 80th and 82nd air assault brigades were repelled. The AFU losses were up to 150 troops and two motor vehicles.

The Zapad Group of Forces improved tactical situation and delivered strikes at manpower and hardware of the 14th Mechanised Brigade, 3rd Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 1st National Guard Brigade, and 119th Territorial Defence Brigade near Petropavlovka (Kharkov region), Novovodyanoye (Lugansk People's Republic), Grigorovka (Donetsk People's Republic) and Serebryansky forestry. Two counter-attacks launched by the AFU 53rd Mechanised Brigade were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 620 troops, one tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, six motor vehicles, one Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery system, one UK-made 155-mm FH-70 howitzer, one U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin howitzer and one U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzer, one 152-mm D-20 howitzer, two 122-mm 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems, three UK-made 105-mm L119 guns, and three Anklav-N electronic warfare stations. Six field ammunition depots were destroyed.

The Yug Group of Forces took more favourable lines and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 24th Mechanised Brigade, 79th Air Assault Brigade, and 56th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Konstantinovka, Zaliznyanskoye, and Chasov Yar (Donetsk People's Republic). A counter-attack launched by enemy assault groups was repelled.

The enemy's losses amounted to up to 490 troops, nine motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzer, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, two 152-mm D-20 guns, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun, and one electronic warfare station. Three AFU ammunition depots were destroyed.

The Tsentr Group of Forces liberated Memrik (Donetsk People's Republic) as a result of active and decisive efforts. The Russian troops inflicted damage on the 142nd Infantry Brigade, 71st Jaeger Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the 109th Territorial Defence Brigade near Kalinovo, Mikhailovka, Rozovka, and Druzhba (Donetsk People's Republic). Eight counter-attacks launched by assault groups of the 68th Jaeger Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 2nd and 14th national guard brigades were repelled.

The enemy suffered losses which included up to 560 troops, four armoured fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, one 152-mm 2S3 Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, one 152-mm D-20 gun, and four 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

The Vostok Group of Forces improved the situation along the front line. They also delivered strikes at manpower and hardware of the 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 105th Territorial Defence Brigade, and 21st National Guards Brigade near Zolotaya Niva, Oktyabr (Donetsk People's Republic) and Novodarovka (Zaporozhye region). Two counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the AFU 72nd Mechanised Brigade were repelled.

The enemy lost up to 125 troops, three motor vehicles, one Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery system, and one U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery system.

The Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the 39th Coastal Defence Brigade near Zherebyanka (Zaporozhye region), Otradokamenka (Kherson region), and the city of Kherson.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 75 troops, seven motor vehicles, one 152-mm D-20 gun, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer. Two AFU ammunition depots were destroyed.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have engaged clusters of AFU manpower and military hardware in 148 areas.

Russian air defence systems shot down two French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, four U.S.-made HIMARS projectiles, and 45 unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, 642 airplanes and 283 helicopters, 31,166 unmanned aerial vehicles, 579 air defence missile systems, 17,969 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,447 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 14,358 field artillery guns and mortars, as well as 25,825 units of support motor vehicles have been destroyed during the special military operation.
