A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that 112 combat clashes have taken place so far. The hottest today remained the situation in the Pokrovsky and Kurakhivsky directions, also Russia is active in Kupiansky, Lyman and Toretsky directions.

For today, Russian forces caused 49 aviation strikes on the territory of Ukraine (zadíâv, including 67 KAB), used to impress 526 kamikadze drones. Made more than 3,400 shelling of the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces once attacked nearby vovchans атаka. The battle is on.
In the Kupâns 13komu direction, the Russian opponent during the day 13 times tried to advance to Ukrainian positions near synkívka, glushkívka, lozovoí̈ and petropavlívka. Ten attacks were repelled by the Defense Forces. The fights continue in the Lozovoí̈ area.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked 19 times in the areas of Druželûbívka, Tverdohlibovogo, Nevsky, Makííivka, Novosadovogo and Torsky. Still sharpening two clashes, the rest of the attacks were stopped by Ukrainian warriors.
In the Siversky direction, Russian forces nine times during the day unsuccessfully tried to break through Ukrainian defense in the areas of Verkhnyokamiansky, Grigorivka and Spirny.
In the Kramators ласьkomu direction, the activity of the Russian occupiers spilled into three combat clashes. All attacks near Ivanivsky and Kalinivka have been flooded. The Russian goalkeepers have suffered a loss.
In the Toretsky direction, Ukrainian troops repelled nine Russian attacks near Dachnyo, Toretsky and Nelipivka.
Russian forces tried to infiltrate Ukrainian defense 27 times in the Intercession direction. Since the beginning of the day, Russian forces in the areas of Novooleksandrivka, Vozdvizhenko, Svyrydonívka, Hrodivka, Ivanivka, Novogrodivka, Mykhailivka and Marinivka received a hard cut off from Ukrainian defenders 25 times. Two attacks are underway.
Russian forces suffered significant losses - according to preliminary information, today Ukrainian soldiers damaged more than 300 invaders in this direction, 124 of them - irrevocably. Six art systems, one combat armored vehicle and three vehicles were destroyed, as well as four occupant vehicles and 13 artillery systems were damaged.
In the Kurakhívs мкуkomu direction, Russian forces 22 times attacked Ukrainian positions. The greatest activity was shown in the area of Georgiyivka, Ukrainian and Krasnogorivka, where Ukrainian defenders repelled 18 attacks, four confrontations are ongoing.
In the vremívs напряkomu direction, Ukrainian troops repel the Russian attack near vugledara.
The Russian occupiers, without success, stormed Ukrainian positions in the Orikhiv direction, near Maliy Scherbaky. Got a decent cut off.
In the Pridniprovsky direction, seven failed attempts to storm the positions of Ukrainian soldiers were carried out by the Russian aggressor during the day.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that In Liptsy and Volchansk directions, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of the 92nd Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, 36th Marine Brigade, 122nd and 125th territorial defence brigades near Malye Prokhody, Grafskoye, and Volchanskiye Khutora (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 215 troops, two motor vehicles, and one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer.

Units of the Zapad Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 14th, 31st, 44th, 116th mechanised brigades, 3rd Assault Brigade of the AFU, 110th, 114th, 119th territorial defence brigades, and 12th Azov Special Operations Brigade near Petropavlovka, Kupyansk-Uzlovoy, Kruglyakovka (Kharkov region) Makeyevka (Lugansk People's Republic), and Torskoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 530 troops, two Kozak armoured fighting vehicles, 13 motor vehicles, one Grad MLRS launcher, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, one 152-mm D-20 gun, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, and two UK-made 105-mm L-119 howitzers.

Two Anklav-N electronic warfare stations and four field ammunition depots were destroyed.

As a result of decisive efforts, units of the Yug Group of Forces liberated Krasnogorovka and Grigorovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

Losses were inflicted on formations of the 28th, 54th, 93rd mechanised brigades, 56th Motorised Infantry Brigade, 144th Infantry Brigade, 10th Mountain Assault Brigade, 46th, 81st airmobile brigades of the AFU, 116th and 118th territorial defence brigades near Verkhnekamenskoye, Vyemka, Chasov Yar, Kurakhovka, Maksimilyanovka, and Katerinovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

Four counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 24th, 30th mechanised brigades, 143rd Infantry Brigade of the AFU, and 4th National Guard Brigade were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to 715 troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, two Kozak armoured fighting vehicles, 15 motor vehicles, one German-made 155-mm Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery system, 155-mm U.S.-made M777 and M198 howitzers, one UK-made FH-70 howitzer, one 152-mm Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, two 152-mm D-20 howitzers, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and one UK-made 105-mm L-119 howitzer.

One U.S.-made AN/TPQ-50 counter-battery radar and three field ammunition depots were destroyed.

As a result of active efforts, units of the Tsentr Group of Forces liberated Galitsynovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of the 53rd, 63rd, 114th, 144th mechanised brigades, 68th, 71st jaeger brigades, 142nd infantry brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, 109th Territorial Defence Brigade, and 15th National Guard Brigade near Dzerzhinsk, Shcherbinovka, Grodovka, Petrovka, Mikhailovka, and Selidovo (Donetsk People's Republic).

Eight counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 32nd Mechanised Brigade, 59th Motorised Infantry Brigade, 25th Airborne Brigade of the AFU, 37th Marine Brigade, 12th and 14th national guard brigades were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 515 troops, two infantry fighting vehicles, including one U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, four armoured fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, one 152-mm D-20 gun, and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

As a result of cohesive actions, units of the Vostok Group of Forces liberated Vodyanoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

Losses were inflicted on formations of the 61st Mechanised Brigade, 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, and 105th Territorial Defence Brigade near Dobrovolye, Prechistovka, Novoukrainka (Donetsk People's Republic), and Levadnoye (Zaporozhye region). Two counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 72nd Mechanised Brigade of the AFU and 118th Territorial Defence Brigade were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 130 troops, three motor vehicles, 155-mm Polish-made Krab and Bogdana self-propelled artillery systems, as well as one Bukovel-AD electronic warfare station.

Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 150th Mechanised Brigade, 141st Infantry Brigade, 128th Mountain Assault Brigade of the AFU, 123rd and 124th territorial defence brigades near Novodanilovka, Kamenskoye (Zaporozhye region), Ponyatovka (Kherson region), and Kherson.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 70 troops, seven motor vehicles, and one 152-mm D-20 gun. One electronic warfare station and one field ammunition depot were destroyed.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces wiped out one U.S.-made M270 MLRS launcher, one UAV production workshop, and delivered strikes at infrastructure of military airfields, as well as engaged AFU manpower and hardware clusters in 134 areas.

Air defence units shot down seven French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, seven U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles, and 175 fixed-wing UAVs, with 154 of them outside the special military operation zone.

In total, 642 airplanes and 283 helicopters, 31,341 unmanned aerial vehicles, 579 air defence missile systems, 17,980 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,449 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 14,415 field artillery guns and mortars, as well as 25,868 units of support motor vehicles have been destroyed during the special military operation.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that units of the Sever Group of Forces supported by Army Aviation and artillery repelled six attacks of the enemy in the direction of Apanasovka, Kamyshevka, Maryevka, and Cherkasskaya Konopelka. The enemy's attempts to launch attacks in the direction of Borki, Krasnooktyabrskoye, and Kremyanoye were thwarted.

As a result, the AFU losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, four AFU servicemen were taken prisoner; one tank, two armoured fighting vehicles, and one motor vehicle were destroyed.

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue reconnaissance and search operations in forestry areas to locate and eliminate enemy sabotage groups attempting to get to the depth of the Russian territory.

Air strikes, artillery fire, and actions of the troops inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware clusters of the 22nd, 61st mechanised brigades, 80th, 82nd air assault brigades, 152nd Jaeger Brigade, 1st Presidential Brigade, and 1004th Security and Service Brigade near Borki, Vnezapnoye, Ivashkovsky, Kubatkin, Kurilovka, Lyubimovka, Malaya Loknya, Makhnovka, Martynovka, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Obukhovka, Orlovka, Snagost, and Uspenovka.

Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops delivered strikes in Sumy region at concentration areas of foreign mercenaries and reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 54th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd air assault brigades of the AFU, 1st Presidential Brigade, 101st, 103rd, and 129th territorial defence brigades near Belopolye, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Glukhov, Druzhin, Krovnoye, Iskriskovshchina, Novaya Sloboda, Svessa, Peschannoye, Pavlovka, Pustogorod, Sumy, and Yampol.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 380 troops and 15 units of hardware, including two tanks, 13 armoured fighting vehicles as well as three artillery guns, and 11 motor vehicles.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost more than 11,800 troops, 93 tanks, 42 infantry fighting vehicles, 74 armoured personnel carriers, 649 armoured fighting vehicles, 382 motor vehicles, 89 artillery guns, 24 MLRS launchers, including seven of HIMARS and five of MLRS, eight SAM launchers, two transport-loading vehicles, 22 electronic warfare stations and seven counter-battery radars, two air defence radars, eight engineering vehicles, including two counterobstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
