e & a's shared nursery

So, truth be told it really made no sense to even create this room except for the fact that my nesting instincts were off the charts.  I told myself early on that I was no going to change around Evie's room before Avett came.  But when my mother purchased this toddler bed for us and CJ created their quilts, I literally couldn't stop myself.  I don't know what was driving me other than shear hormones.  Seeing that we are moving in two months Avett will most likely never even sleep in this room. However, now that I satisfied the urge to rearrange and redo 'their' room I actually sleep better at night. I don't toss and turn with crazy pregnant lady thoughts of how to decorate for Avett and make a space that is all his own. Not that that even makes sense since he will be in a bassinet the whole time we finish living here. Geeez pregnant ladies are nuts....

The only two new purchases were:

Crib sheets: Land of Nod
Rug: Ikea

thanks shanna...

All of this began yesterday with my new Shanna Murray wall decal.  This beautiful gold sparkly decal. I fell in love with her work about a month ago. I've been waiting for the absolute perfect place to put it and I think I found it!
So today I went to Goodwill and bought all of these tiny mirrors for 50 cents each! I got the wall candle holders for $1.50 each. I also purchased the drapes from a thrift store for $2.00! So add all of that up and I've got a whole new master bedroom look for under $10. (plus the cost of Shanna's decal)

Pillow Shams: Anthropologie
Comforter: Target
Headboard: The Iron Bed
Lamp Shade: World Market
Wall Decal: Shanna Murray

on making it my own

As most of you know, ever since my parents divorced last year John and I have been living with my mother.
It was difficult to go from living in a cute little apartment where I could express myself and decorate however I wished to a space that was fully its own and someone else's.

I don't know what it is inside of us that gives us the urge to create and make a place our own, but I lost a lot of that last year.  I didn't feel like this home was mine and I couldn't break out of that funk for a long time.  There is something so satisfying about creating your own space.  I take so much joy in making our home a beautiful place to live and I find that it really does make me happier when I do so.

With my mother's recent engagement (congrats to my mom and her gentleman emailer!) we have solidified our plan to live here for about two more years while she goes to be with her new husband for a while before returning back to this house.  With this news my mother said to me about the house, "HAVE AT IT!"  So, thats what I did.  Today I made the living room ours.

I feel brand new.

evaleigh's nursery

Alas, our baby girl's room is done! And all with 4 days to spare. There have been countless DIY projects and re-DIY's that have gone in to this nursery.

the curtains (the fabric of which was used as table cloths at our wedding reception)
the couch (which was my great grandmothers. it is painted then recovered)
the bunting
the scrabble name frame
the changing table
all of the pillows (except for the red target one)
the chest of drawers
and the list goes on and on...

So, here we present:

Evaleigh Joy Murphy's Nursery

Now, all we are missing is a little girl!!!

Oh, and I need some nursing pads...
