L is for Lion

More drawing practice, then I altered this photo of a dog sculpture seen in Madrid with one of the drawn lion heads.

Jellyfish and Postcard

I'm filling up quite a few sketchbooks with all this drawing practice, so I'm using one that I made way back in 2012. Some of the pages are brown, possibly recycled envelopes. The covers are stamped and painted, I used handmade rolling stamps, a tutorial can be found above. The ideas for the jellyfish were from the book '20 Ways to Draw a Cat and 44 other awesome animals' by Julia Kuo.

I used some of the jellyfish on this digital collage. The background was painted many years ago.

Also this week I have a digital postcard consisting of six layers.

Whale and Frogs

I used a whale and frogs from the practice drawings to add them to some old digital backgrounds I had done years back.

Penguins at Play

 Drawing practice using the book '20 Ways to Draw a Cat and 44 other awesome animals' by Julia Kuo for ideas. I then used a few of the penguins to add to the photo taken at Low Force, Tees Valley.

Birds and Mushroom Sketch

This is an ink drawing I did recently in one of my larger sketchbooks [16"x 11"]

I altered the threshold in photoshop on the picture above to make the lines a bit clearer.

Elliot's Monster Toy

This is Elliot's monster with spiky bits on the ears and three legs. I made him from calico, the orange lines are heat transfer vinyl. I machine stitched around the edges. So it wouldn't fray I painted the edges with PVA and also painted the legs and ears to make them stiff. Then stuffed him.

Below is Elliot's original drawing, I tidied it up a little and cut it from vinyl on a digital cutter

I did have a go at altering it even more but I like the cuteness of the original drawing so decided to do the toy from that.

He also had a go at writing his name so I put that on the back with the date.

I'm probably a biased Grandma but I think he does very good drawings for a three year old [just 3 in December]

Negative Painting

I love the negative paintings by Sue Davis and was inspired to have a go. On a negative painting the background is painted first and then one paints around the object [the white area in my picture] rather than painting the object itself. I painted the canvas with dark green and used handmade stamps and stencils in bright colours for the details. I painted two coats of white paint on top and was debating as to whether to give it another coat but decided to leave it at that.
