Originally digitized in 2013.  This version was declicked a second time in December 2021, the files were retagged, and liner notes updated.  As of August 2023, I added the cue sheets to the download.

The broadcast date printed on the KBFH syndicated discs says April 5, 1981.  This date often shows on the Internet as the date of the concert, but I think that's in error.  Wolfgang's Vault has the show up with the April date, which perpetuates the mistake.  KBFH records the shows well in advance of the broadcast date.  KBFH did not record the show, press up the records, and distribute them to hundreds of radio stations on the same day as the show.

Setlists.com also lists the April 5 date, but there are no other concerts near it, except for an appearance at the Bammies (Bay Area Music Awards).  Boz was not on tour in 1980, and it's not likely he would have done a single stand-alone show in New York City just for this broadcast.

The show was recorded on November 26, 1980.  I've included a ticket stub from the November show, plus a newspaper listing.

The streaming audio version does NOT include "Middle Man," which was on the original broadcast discs.

I cleaned the discs with Titebond II wood glue and then went through it on Audacity and declicked the show. I went through the files a second time in December 2021 and did some more clean-up.  The sound quality is top-notch, the drums really snap, the two background vocalists are well-defined.

I've tracked all the commercials and KBFH breaks so they can be left out if they're of no interest. 

There's one "star turn" where Dave Mason does a pretty heartwarming commercial for Miller Beer that may be of interest to Dave Mason completists. He really "sells" the commercial.

Tracks from the Bar-Kays show were also released on Budweiser Concert BC 82-8.  The version of "Body Fever" and "Holy Ghost" are edited to be shorter on this version.  In place of the lost music "Say It Through Love" has been added to the set list.  That show is up in the archives here at Voodoo Wagon, with updated information and tagging to reflect the discovery  of the date of the show (once again, Newspapers.com let me scooby-doo the mystery.....)

At the end of "Why Can't We Be Friends," they credit the venue as "L.A. Street Scene".
War's 1980 LP "War – The Music Band Live" was recorded at The Los Angeles Street Scene, October 12, 1980 by the Record Plant Remote Truck. It is highly likely these are the same tracks as released on that album.  I could not find a CD release of that album on Discogs, and there are no copies for sale on EBAY, Discogs, or Amazon.

I know...I know...I'm a day late. But while putting these posts together I happened to notice some unsettling coincidences between the thin white duke and the king. Check these out....

1. Bowie had a brother who went nuts, E had a brother who was stillborn.
2. If you take the letters from the name Terry and rearrange them onto a Kenner's Lite Brite you can certainly come up with the name Jesse.
3. Bowie had a manager who ripped him off left and right, E had a manager that once had an assistant who went by the name Tony
4.Bowie and E both recorded for R.C.A.
5.Bowie covers Lou Reed's "Waiting For The Man" E was constantly heard saying "Man what are we waiting for?"
6.Bowie has a song called "Rebel Rebel"  E was considered a rebel
7.Bowie at one time was considered gay E said he didn't like gays, but that great psychiatrist Sigmund Freud once said "That those who purport to dislike gay people are actually gay themselves."

With the holidays fast approching, it's time for the VooDoo crew to help stuff your stocking.  I went down into the basement and dug out a cassette to digitize.  This is from a 1992 broadcast of tracks from the December 1991 KITS-FM First Acoustic Green Christmas show recorded at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom in San Francisco.  

KITS-FM picked up the idea from Los Angeles' KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas, started a year prior in 1990.  The line-up is a snapshot of "modern rock" just before grunge became the popular style.  Matthew Sweet, the Wonder Stuff, and Chris Isaak are still out there, doing the work, but This Picture, School of Fish, Dramarama and Toad the Wet Sprocket didn't make it past the 90's (there have been some reunions, though...)

Here's another digitization from a master off-the-air cassette I recorded from a KFOG-FM "Live at the Plant" broadcast.  Flac files of .wavs, of course....

Sonia Dada was based in Chicago and got some Bay Area radio airplay on KFOG...but didn't make much of a national impact in the USA.  However, "You Don't Treat Me No Good" was a #1 hit in Australia, and #2 in New Zealand, so this might be of some interest to our Antipodean brethren.

Their cover of the Beatles "Rain" is excellent; it was never released on their albums, but did turn up on the promo copies of the "Planes and Satellites" CD-single.

From the department of "In Case You Missed It"...

The Belgian band Hooverphonic originally featured vocalist Liesje Sadonius, guitarist/programmer Alex Callier, keyboardist Frank Duchêne, and guitarist Raymond Geerts. Known simply as Hoover across Europe, the group made their initial splash contributing the song "2Wicky" to the soundtrack of the 1996 Bernardo Bertolucci film Stealing Beauty, followed a year later by the full-length New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular. Sadonius left Hooverphonic a short time later, and was replaced by vocalist Geike Arnaert in time to record 1998's Blue Wonder Power Milk. The band went from strength to strength during the next decade, releasing three more studio albums and a live orchestral album, Sit Down and Listen to Hooverphonic, but left Sony BMG in 2006 in protest at lack of support from the label, releasing a singles compilation as a contractual obligation. In 2008 they signed with the powerhouse Belgian indie PIAS to release the album The President of the LSD Golf Club, but shortly after its release, Arnaert left the band to pursue a solo career. Undeterred, the band began the search for a replacement. After receiving thousands of applications from all over the world, they finally decided on a young Belgian woman, Noémie Wolfs, who had almost no previous musical experience. Their first album with Wolfs on vocals, entitled The Night Before, was issued in 2010.

If you're not familiar with this band maybe it's time to do so now. Excellent stuff!
