Soundboard @flac

*Original Notes*
One song is missing from the setlist, the 10th track would have been "Stop Swimming" but unfortunately, numerous skips and blips made thissong well beyond repair. Sadly, all known
sources of this recording seem to have the same defect on track ten. Also it seems that the encores,
"Dislocated Day" and "Radioactive toy", were not recorded. Aside from these missing numbers,
it is a perfect concert which fits neatly on one disk!

Set List:
01  Even Less
02  Piano Lessons
03  Waiting, Part 1
04  Up The Downstair
05  Don't Hate Me
06  Signify
07  Pure Narcotic
08  A Smart Kid
09  Voyage 34
10  The Colour of Air
11  I Find That I'm Not There
12  Wire The Drum

A superb, pristine soundboard recording
from Steven and the boys, 75:06 minutes in
length.

Live From The House of Blues Presented By Pontiac Sunfire was a syndidated radio show distributed on two cds, featuring a live concert recorded at a House of Blues club (at the time, in Los Angeles, New Orleans, or Cambridge).  The live music was interspersed with national commercials, and the House of Blues was promoted by short comments from patrons.  The syndicated radio show premiered on January 27 1995 and appears to have run for about a year..

Also in 1995, 26 live shows were televised on TBS (Turner Broadcast System). This Thorogood show was also on television, so there may have been overlap between the television and radio shows.

The H. of B. shows don't turn up very often, so it's likely the number of stations participating in the syndication was fairly low, compared to shows like King Biscuit Flower Hour.

This show was hosted by Pat St. John...who had previously hosted some of the "SuperGroups In Concert" shows in the early 1980s, and the "Live From Electric Ladyland" shows in the early 1990s.

Thorogood tears through a set of classic blues, and there's a "guest spot" by John Hammond on a cover of John Lee Hooker's "Father Was A Jockey" (mistitled as "Ride Till I Die" on the cue sheet).  The sound quality is excellent; this is straight from the 2-cd set to you, with no FM in the lineage.

I cut out the radio commercials but left in the (very short) promos for the House of Blues, and the disc jockey commentary and introductions.  FLAC files of wavs.  I've included scans of the cue sheets, CD discs, and an ad for the series from Billboard.

NOTE:  Westwood One also broadcast a Thorogood show from the House of Blues in 1998; this is not the same show.

EN remaster notes
10.26.2014

My 48th birthday started off on a sad note when I awoke Saturday morning (10.25.2014) and learned of the passing of the magnificent bass behemoth Jack Bruce at 71. When I got back home later on someone had reposted, to another tracker, this absolutely mind-frying, balls-to-the-wall performance from when Jack first assembled this all-star band with Billy Cobham, David Sancious and Clem Clempson at the outset of the 1980s. This concert, broadcast over WNEW-FM in NYC live as it happened and captured direct to Maxell cassettes off the air, dates from a few days before this band even had a record out and finds all four virtuosi ready to blow up the Bottom Line... which they do over the course of the next 103 minutes, sending the packed club into complete pandemonium, which you'll hear all up and down the tape.

This master cassette was taped with Dolby B noise reduction back in the day so I took a good few hours with it and went about putting the high end into a punchier place. Using Sound Forge 9 I was able to find a way to make the drums somewhat more present and resurrect the treble some, giving it more life and unleashing more of its (not insignificant) power without altering it too much. Unless WNEW taped this themselves as it went out and archived it, I don't think there's a pre-FM source of this, given the one-offness of these old Bottom Line broadcasts, but who knows? There was a (horrifying-sounding and incomplete) Italian bootleg CD of some of this show out back in the mid-1990s when there was that interregnum in copyright law over there, but this right here may be as good as it gets for this one barring someone having captured it, say, onto a reel-to-reel off the air or some such. All conjecture aside, this is the real thing, and all we know exists as far as a live document of this incendiary group at its inception, so please do enjoy this remaster of what can only be termed a take-no-prisoners performance. I hope it makes some fraction of a fitting tribute to the Maestro who left us yesterday with a lifetime or twelve worth of the very finest sounds.

BBC Rock Hour #341, Version "B" (with commercials)
London Wavelength Limited Broadcast Week of October 10, 1982

18.  I Like Boys
19.  Destination Unknown
20.  BBC Rock Hour #341 Outro - Sylvie Simmons

I ran across a note on the Internet that the King Biscuit Flower Hour from February 27, 1983
has the following songs, attributed to the Fox Warfield Theatre, San Francisco...but they're IDENTICAL  PERFORMANCES to this BBC Rock Hour show.

The songs on that KBFH are supposed to be:
Mental Hopscotch
Words
Tears
Bad Streets
Windows
Walking In L.A.
I Like Boys
Destination Unknown

I don't have a copy of that show, so I can't confirm if this is true.

At the start of "Windows," on this BBC Rock Hour, they announce that the song is from their upcoming album "Spring Session M," "which is going to be released at the end of this month."
"Spring Session M' was released in October 1982 by Capitol Records, so the show was recorded close to that date. There's a Warfield show up at Wolfgang's Vault attributed to December 28, 1982,  which is after the October 10th syndicated broadcast date of this show.  So...regardless of what the KBFH show claims, my guess is that this show is from Magic Mountain and recorded in October of 1982.  If you know differently, leave a comment!

The version of "I Like Boys"  from this BBC Rock Hour show is also up on YouTube, with a supposed date of November 24, 1982....over a month after this show was originally broadcast.

Flac files of wavs.  Scans of the cue sheet and disc label included.  This is digitized directly from the syndicated radio show vinyl.  I declicked the files.

Ry Cooder - Promo Vinyl Only Four Song Ep @224kbps

Ok folks after numerous complaints about Filedropper I have decided to drop that pile of shit and have gone back to Zippy. This is a promo only 4 song EP off my vinyl copy. There are pops but there are no skips and seeing as how I guess it's pretty rare figured I'd put it up, and also to let all know I have fixed my previous links except Lee Hazlewood and if there is enough outrage I'll fix it too. Thin Lizzy - Live In Rock City Detroit '76 @224kbps

Earlier this week, it was our annual VodooBoot convention. The Boss gave us the lowdown on the state of affairs here and our tasks for the next few months. Well, once again it seems The Boss and Draftervoi got the topless beach assignment in Rio (that's where most of the pictures of the lovely ladies that grace our pages here come from.)  I got the letters assignment (again.) So with that in mind I'd better get started on what I'm supposed to be doing...

Letters, boy do we get letters. So let me just pull the first one out here, OK, it's from a Secretia Mc Evil from Blicksville Texas. Secretia writes "Um turd of libing in dis singa wide trailer I want to be famously cun you help?" Well Secretia, yes I can, in this day and age it's really simple let me guide you. First (and THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT) make sure you have no talent. Next, get your teeth fixed and your tits enlarged. Now lock yourself inside your trailer for the next 30 days and watch nothing but, Entertainment Tonight, American Idol, America's Got Talent, America's Got Herpes. Memorize these shows verbatim. Now after you have done these steps you MUST go to either Frederick's Of Hollywood or Victoria's Secret and buy the most reveling costume, without exposing your nipples or pubes (might I suggest you use BEN-DE-Ho'S house of Body Sculpting and Wax that's what I use) get the highest pumps you can walk in and get you a shih tzu named Pico a diamond studded collar and leash (for the dog and yourself) and proceed to walk down Hollywood Boulevard in this costume. Next, when the paparazzi start to follow you around (don't worry, in this get-up they'll THINK your somebody famous) let them take your picture, and ask you for quotes, SAY NOTHING. This will in turn, get you on numerous tabloid talk shows and magazines. Now, wait for Tommy Mottola to propose a multi-album deal, and marriage. Go into the recording studio and cut an album of songs using one of the hottest songwriters around, might I suggest you use Dr. Seuss. Record a song and nine others that sound EXACTLY alike (THIS IS IMPERATIVE) Next, the week-end before your wedding to Mr. Mottola, go to Las Vegas. While there, hook up with Chris Brown and get hammered. Get into an elevator and have sex with him, this in turn will get us the sex tape you will need, after you're done having sex, let him proceed to beat the shit out of you, this in turn will give us the victim tape you will need.

There you have it, you'll be famous in no time. The one thing I did forget to mention though is that you have to repeat this cycle step by step every ninety days. Oh shit the Boss's plane will be here in an hour and I've got to get to the airport. See Scans

Bobby Bare / Live At The Lone Star Cafe radio show 1980

This being a red, white 'n blue 4th of July weekend, I figured it was time for a little authentic, vintage Country & Western....so making his Voodoo Wagon debut, here's Bobby Bare!

Bobby Bare
Live At The Lone Star Cafe radio show

The cue sheet was lost along the way.  I've included a scan of the record label.

21.  LSC Outro - Mike Fitzgerald

Bobby Bare's long career started with rock and roll releases in the 1950s.  He had a notable snafu with his first self-penned hit, "The All American Boy."  Bare made a demo for Bill Parsons to teach him the song, Capitol Records pressed up Bare's demo instead of Parson's take, but credited the record to Parsons.  The incorrectly credited song went to #2 in the U.S.A. and #22 on the British charts, and still shows up as a hit for Bill Parsons.

In the 1960's, Bare moved from rock n' roll to straight country, and had a string of hits, including some that crossed over to the pop charts.  These pop cross-overs led to Bare's inclusion in Dave Marsh's 1989 book, The Heart of Rock and Soul: The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made.  Marsh listed two entries by Bobby Bare, both from 1963: "Detroit City" at #337 and "500 Miles Away From Home" at #901.

While it wasn't included in Marsh's list, Bare had another hit in 1966 that's become a
standard.   Bare recorded the original hit version of "Streets of Baltimore," a song written by Tompall Glaser and Harlan Howard in 1966.  While there were many cover versions,
an early 1970's cover by Gram Parsons is a definitive version, and was recently topically featured on the HBO series The Wire, as the show is set in Baltimore.

In the mid to late 70's, Bare had a series of humorous novelty hits, including "Numbers," "The Winner," and the sublimely ridiculous "Dropkick Me, Jesus."  (Note:  The word "tempestion" appears to have been entirely made up just for this for this song.)

This syndicated show was produced by the Clayton Webster Corp. of St. Louis, Missouri.  Incorporated in January of 1978, the Clayton Webster Corp. also produced the "Retro Rock" show, syndicated from 1981 to 1984.  The "outro" to the show says that the Live From The Lone Star Cafe show was carried on "more than 200 American radio stations...every week," which gives us an approximate number of copies pressed.  The numbering sequence on the shows included a three letter code of "LSC" followed by a year and and an ascending show number:  LSC-7901, LSC-7902, LSC-7903, etc. I've seen copies of Live From The Lone Star Cafe series with numbering indicating the show ran from 1979 to 1981. It looks like Clayton Webster got out of syndication of live concerts by the mid-80s.

Flac files of wavs, and I've included a scan of the disc label.
