This is the same show as 90-04. Almost. The editing is slightly different, and it may be a different mix from the master tapes. The first is easy to identify. "Neal's Fandango" has a spoken intro on 90-04: "This is a tune for everybody down in Santa Cruz, all the surfers know where Santa Cruz is, right?"
That's been edited out on 90-27 / 90-39.
In listening to the shows, at several points you can hear that the audience noise is mixed differently into the show.
Now, you'll notice that I'm identifying this show as having two numbers...that leads to today's essay on the investigation into (cue the Twilight Zone theme music...)
The Henley-Doobie Discontinuity:
The 1990 Westwood One Numbering Change
Between 1983 and 1989, the numbering system for the Superstar Concert series was the last two digits of the year (83, 84, 85...) with an ascending show number (83-1, 83-2, 83-4...)
The shows did not run every week, and the second number wasn't tied to a specific week.
In 1991, the number of shows increased to one show per week, so the numbers ran from 91-1 to 91-52. And each show corresponds to a specific week of the year.
But 1990 isn't so easy to figure out. The year starts out like previous years. The first show was the first week of February, and the shows were running every two weeks, and the numbers went up from 90-01 to 90-14.

This is where things get weird. We've entered the Henley-Doobie Discontinuity.
The discs continue the prior numbering, but the cue sheets are the disc number, plus 12.
The disc number matches the prior numbering system; the cue sheet number lines up with a new system where there is a number assigned to each week of the year, running 1 to 52 for the 52 weeks of the year.
We enter the H-D Discontinuity at 90-15...

Doobie Brothers 90-27 (discs) / 90-39 (cue sheet) weekend of September 29-30, 1990
...and leave it at 90-39. There are 13 shows, but we've jumped from 90-15 to 90-39.
As we leave the Henley-Doobie Discontinuity, the discs and cue sheet numbers match,
and the number corresponds to the week of the year. However, they're not producing
a show for every week, they're running every other week (and skipping the Christmas week, too).
This means there are seven numbers as placeholders, there are no shows.

The H-D Discontinuity has created great confusion on Discogs, with shows being identified as separate shows instead of one show with two numbers.
With the Doobie Brothers...is this show 90-27, or 90-39? I'm choosing to call it 90-27 / 90-39. It's both!
