Mug rack to jewelry holder

Disclaimer: This post contains an affiliate link to Amazon. Clicking or purchasing won't cost you any additional money but helps support my blog.      I have my jewelry stored in a plastic hanging divided organizer made for jewelry in he closet but some of it doesn't fit well in the pockets, particularly bracelets, so I wanted to come up with a new storage solution. I'm not a fan of some of DIY jewelry holders because I think it's just plain tacky to have a jewelry holder out as decor and I don't really have a place for some of the ideas I've seen. I finally decided I could give in a little and that having a few bracelets out on the dresser would be okay. Having made this decision, I was thrilled when I found this beauty, uh ugly duckling, at our Salvation Army thrift store for $1.   It took me a bit to decide on a color. I'd have loved a bright yellow or turqouise, but that would really clash with our bedroom decor. I was strolling thr...

Easy Fancy Framed chalkboard

I resisted the chalkboard craze for a long time, partly because I didn't think I had a use for any of the projects and partly because I just hadn't gotten around to it. I have a platter that I bought at a yard sale with a chalk board project in mind but I haven't gotten to it. When I saw Suburb's Mama's chalkboard sign on her front porch, I knew it was time to get on board. I just had to copy this for my own front porch update. I wanted a white frame and I didn't want to paint it. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it either. Luck would have it, I found a clearance frame at Michael's that was white. It was on clearance because it didn't have a glass but I decided I could work with it. There are tons of ways to make a chalkboard from a picture frame. I was initially going to paint the glass in the frame, but since this one didn't have a glass, I had to shift to plan B. Luckily the backing board was a sturdy smooth MDF board, s...

Pampering in a jar

I saw a version of this  pampering in a jar on Pinterest . I decided to make one as a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law last Christmas. It would also make a great Valentine's Day gift for the wives, Moms, sisters, best friends,... you get it.     I started out with an empty almond jar from Target. (Those are the best containers- wide mouth and plastic so they won't break. I've saved several more to put to use for craft storage.) I wrapped a piece of lace around my jar and tied a bow. I printed the label on cardstock and punched it out with a circle punch. I made a couple of paper rosettes from patterned scrapbook paper. I filled the jar with some fuzzy socks, lotion, lip balm, a loofah cloth, and chocolates. I embellished the lid with some paper flowers. I love giving gifts like this. I find it to be more thoughtful than some higher priced, single item gifts. Go grab yourself a jar and show someone some lov...

Painted jars and vases

Glass jars and vases abound at the thrift store and in our own homes (think repurposing food jars). Some of them seem a little outdated as is, but with a little paint, they can be new home decor and make a dramatic statement with color. Here are a few diys and how-to links for painting jases and jars:   by Sugar and Charm by diary of a mod housewife Little Miss Momma How about painting just one section to display thought or sentiment? by Creative Carmella eighteen 25 Thanks for stopping by. Repurposing chandeliers - 5 ways

It's so much fun to take something old and give it new life. The next time you see a chandelier or candelabra at the thrift store or yard sale, look at it in a new way. Here's a chandelier turned cake stand: by iheartnaptime  Another one with vintage plates. Chandelier dessert stand This one was made into an outdoor candle holder.   My Repurposed Life A bird feeder - ( I found it on Pinterest but the link doesn't go to the original site. I think the same steps would apply but you would use bowls.) Source This one is a candelabra turned desert stand using vintage plates. The plates could be used on the chandeliers too. Fabulous Friday Finds- Repurposing easter items

Hello and Happy Friday! In place of the Friday features, I'll be sharing neat things I find on the net during the week. Since Easter just passed, I thought this was an appropriate find to share. Real Simple has 25 new uses for Easter things . My favorite is using Easter grass for packing material. Genius! I have some old blue grass that I don't care for (blue grass? what was I thinking) and now I know how to use it. The empty egg carton? Paint palette! Source Do you have some additional tips? Please share in the comments!

Tin can caddy- 3 ways to make one

I'm not sure I even have the space for a caddy right now, but if I do (and my craft space sure needs revamping), these three DIY tin can caddys are certainly inspiring. Maybe I'll make one of my own. by Cynthia Shaffer Coley's Corner Shabby Chic Inpsired

DIY fashion rings

Several days ago I found this post featuring some diy rings. I remembered that I had vintage earrings and supplies to do this and just hadn't gotten around to it. So last week I started working on some of my own.

Sweater pillow

Almost a year ago I purchased a sweater from the thrift store to make a pillow from. A couple of  months after that I found two pillows at a yard sale for 50 cents each. I knew I could use these in place of pillow forms for some pillow projects. I finally got around to this. The first thing I did was place my pillow inside the sweater to measure. The sweater is a size medium so I could only get one pillow from it. I determined that I should just cut the sleeves off at the shoulder and cut straight down. I also cut the turtleneck off of the top. I went back and trimmed the whole top off even. Since my sweater did not have side seams, I had to sew all four seams. I cut the bottom off, allowing for a seam. I turned it inside out and sewed three sides and part of the four with the machine. I turned it right side out and placed the pillow inside. I finished the last seam by hand. Here's my pillow. I played around with placing in on the love seat and the couch...

Friday feature- LillyPearll

Wow! This year is almost over! Where did it go? It's the last Friday of the year, but don't worry, I'll be featuring lots of great etsy shops in 2012. Today I'd like to introduce you to LillyPearll . This cute shop is run by two sisters, Kay and Beth, that love to make things from whatever they can find. "We reuse, recycle, upcycle, and repurpose things. We come from a line of Grandmothers who saved every Holsom bread bag and pie tin they ever bought!!!" Here are some of my favorite pieces from LillyPearll. Necklace Vintage piece Green Tea
