A Shabby Chic Valentine's Mantel

I really wanted to create a winter white mantel after Christmas, but to be honest with you, my mantel remained bare for about three weeks after we finally got Christmas packed away. So instead, I incorporated some white pieces into my Valentine's mantel and used the shabby white cloth garland I made for my parents' fiftieth wedding reception as inspiration to create somewhat of a shabby chic look. I used a white birdcage with a pair of white birds inside. I left the white and gold bow on it- gold decor is growing on me now. I also placed some glitter heart picks from the Dollar Tree in a white thrift store vase. I'm also using the same red frame I used last year  during Valentine's and on last year's fall mantel. I love that I have a collection of things I can swap out season to season. On the other side I'm using my glitter heart mason jar and the punched heart specimen art I made three years ago when I first started decorating for Valentine's...

Valentine vignette with a thrift store bear

I thought you might like to see how I put together my Valentines mailboxes ,  tree, and snow globe for a little vignette. I didn't decorate my mantel this year, but I got this vignette up. I've been doing a little more healthy cooking so my time has been consumed in the kitchen rather than decorating.     The star of my vignette is this little bear I picked up at Goodwill for 49 cents. I was looking for a piece to make the snow globe with but this one didn't work. Hubby had commented that he liked this little bear, so I knew he had to be used. I thought he needed just a little extra touch so I cut out the word love with my Silhouette SD and attached it to the bear with glue dots.     Isn't he sweet? I hope you get to spend lots of time with the ones you love this week. I'll be sharing my vignette here: From Dream to Reality *I t’s a Party * Whatever Goes Wednesday * Show and Share * Hooking Up with HOH * Blissful and Domestic * Handy ...

Valentine tree and heart ornaments

I love my Christmas tree each year and have always thought heart trees were cute for Valentine's. I have this wire ornament tree that doesn't really get used for Christmas so I thought I'd repurpose it into a heart tree for a little Valentine's decor. I had some felt heart ornaments that I picked up on after-Christmas clearance at target and some other after Christmas clearance supplies from Wal-mart that I used to make some more ornaments. My wire tree has a star topper so I used some glue dots to cover the star between two hearts for a heart topper.   Here are the supplies for some of the ornaments- fuzzy garland (from the Wal-mart Christmas clearance- did you know after Christmas clearance is a great time to stock up on Valentine's and even 4th of July crafting supplies? That red and pink can be used for more than Christmas); a wire hanger (it's a pretty flimsy one); and wire cutters. Cut the wire and shape it into a heart. Wrap the gar...

Cupid Snow Globe- Quick and easy Valentine's decor

I had so much fun making snow globes at Christmas that I wanted to make more. I thought that these would be fun for Valentine's Day too. I originally wanted to find a cupid figurine, but couldn't, so I made my own with my trusty Silhouette SD . To make a snow globe you'll need: An empty jar Red cardstock heart punch fake snow cupid die or file pop dots and glue dots washi tape I chose to use cupid Design ID #15816 from the Silhouette downloads. I measured the lid to my jar and the height of the jar and sized the file accordingly. I covered my lid with washi tape (quicker than painting!). I placed some adhesive pop dots on the lid and stuck cupid's feet to them. This gives him a little height in the jar and holds him in place. Next punch some red hearts out of cardstock and adhere them with glue dots to the inside of the jar. Add some faux snow and place the lip on with cupid attached. Turn upside down and you have yourself a cupid snow ...

Mini Valentine's mailboxes

Last year I was inspired by this post to make some altered mini mailboxes for Valentine's Day, but I wanted to make mine a little more dressed up.  I started with mini mailboxes from the Target dollar section. I bought mine last year but it was too late to get them done in time for Valentine's Day. I haven't seen them this year, but you can find some similar mini mailboxes HERE .

Valentines for my sweetheart

I'm putting together a basket of some of my hubby's favorite candies as a little Valentine's gift for him.  I made tags for each candy with cheesy cute sayings on them. You may have already seen some of these around blogland and around Pinterest.   A couple of them are my own version, (at least I have not seen them anywhere else). I printed the sayings on cardstock and punched them out with circle and circle scalloped punches. I used K&CO. scrapbook papers, ribbon, and some stickers from my stash to make the tags. Each candy is packaged in a clear cello bag. Milk Duds- Life without you would be a DUD. Starbursts- My heart BURSTS with love for you. Red Hots- You're a Hottie! Tootsie rolls- I like the way you roll. Twizzlers- You twizzle my fancy! (My play on you "tickle my fancy".) Hershey's kisses- I love your kisses. Any candy in a shovel- I DIG you. Sharing at some of these great parties: Under the Table an...

God's conversation hearts

Here's a quick little Valentine's day gift I'm putting together for our Sunday School class members. I can't take credit for the sayings and verses. You can find a printable for that part HERE. I purchased Ferrara brand conversation hearts in mini boxes from Wal-mart. Here are the dimensions for the box/tent I made. Cut a strip 2 1/4 inches wide from a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 inch cardstock. At 4 1/4 inches, score. Score again 1 inch from that score line. Trim so that remaining section is 5 1/2 inches. Score that piece 1 1/4 from end. Fold on score lines. I attached my box inside the tent with a glue dot. I folded the top tab over, and punched a heart out of red cardstock. I punched holes through the heart and folded and front layer of cardstock. I then ran a ribbon through the holes to tie it together. I got those cute pom pom critters from Michael's and I'm just attaching one to each box - just because they are cute. Here is a side view of my box....
