Thrifty Thanksgiving tablescape

I finally got the table set for Thanksgiving. I had great plans to make some placemats and utensil holders but it hasn't happened and I'm so far behind on Christmas that it probably won't. However, I recently picked up some items at the thrift store that were perfect for a Thanksgiving tablescape.

Spray painted pilgrims

Just a quick little post to share a paint transformation with you. I can't really call it a craft. All I had to do was spray a couple of coats of paint and I had updated Thanksgiving decor. I found this pair of pilgrims at my local thrift store. I thought they would be a neat addition to my fall/Thanksgiving decor but I wasn't crazy about the color.   I wanted a richer, warmer color, but something still earthy and natural looking. I went for Rustoleum oil rubbed bronze, the same paint I used on my thrift store birdcage . I'm very happy with the results and this couple now has a place on my Thanksgiving tablescape.           Linking up here:   Think Pink Sundays * Under the Table and Dreaming * Sundae Scoop * Suburb’s Mama Sunday link * DIY Sunday Showcase * Craftomaniac Monday * Make the Scene Monday * Masterpiece Monday * Motivate Me Monday * Market Yourself Mondays at Sumo’s Sweet Stuff * Pink Hippo Party * More The Merrier Monday * Mo

Fall mantel and blessings garland

Remember my washi tape clothespins ? Remember I said they were part of a bigger project? I'm finally able to reveal my fall mantel and blessings garland. Some simple things on each side of the mantel. And the garland. I used fabric scraps from my stash and tied them to a string of twine to make a garland.  I was inspired by this one at Hoosier Homemade . I mentioned it here about a year ago and made it happend this year. The washi tape clothespins were used to pin doily leaves from the Dollar Tree onto the garland. I wrote "Count Your Blessings" on the center one. I had six more leaves so I asked the hubby to name three things he was thankful for and I added three more. Since we both said each other, I combined it into "You and me" on one leaf.   I think the leaves will become a tradition for us each year since I can change them out.   Just a heads up. I'll be having a Black Friday Sale in my etsy shop November 23, 2012 to

Thanksgiving tablescape

I had no idea what I was going to do for a tablescape this year other than the fact that it would involve leaves. I picked up some felt leaf mats at the Dollar Tree when they first came out and knew that the rich deep red would be a good building base for a fall/Thanksgiving table. I also found some amber tinted votives at the thrift store over the summer and I knew I wanted to use them. I decided to pull out my gold table runner and the glass tray and get started. Each place setting consists of a leaf mat, white plate from my Greek Key collection, a leaf salad plate by BHG from Wal-mart, thrifted goblets, white napkin tied with raffia and a handmade tag. Each tag has a Bible verse of thanksgiving and was printed in Amienne font. I printed four verses on cardstock, then cut them out with a tag template. I added a cornicopia sticker from my scrapbooking stash to each one. Some faux leaves from Michael's was inserted into each. I thought I'd share how I buil

Casual fall/Thanksgiving tablescape

After I swapped out the pillows on the back porch and replaced the decor with some fall things, I set up a casual tablescape on the porch table. I think it would be lovely for a Thanksgiving brunch. I picked up the plates from Target on clearance and the felt pumpkin mats at the Dollar Tree before Halloween. I had intended to set a Halloween table but it never happened. I had no idea what I was going to do for the centerpiece but I grabbed some things  I had on hand and it came together. I picked up a couple of garlands from Michael's at 80% off because I was looking for filler for a tray for the inside (details on that later.) I had this garland left over and I've had this brass Party Lite candle holder for years. I don't care for brass much now but I covered it with the garland so it works. I placed some ball candles in the holders and  a crackled hurricane in the center with another candle and some fall colored gems (also picked up on clearance at Michael'

DIY garland - Must Do Monday

Last year I began to notice so many pretty garlands floating around in blogland. I fell in love and, time permiting, I would have one for each season/ holiday. But notice I said- TIME PERMITTING. So far I've only made an Easter banner . My fall mantel sure could have used a garland. SO, garlands are still on my must do list. Here are some that inspire me: This one could be adapted to any season or theme, depending on the colors of fabrics you use. from Hoosier Homemade

Happy Thanksgiving

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4 (New International Version, ©2010) Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. May you have time to reflect on all your blessings today. I have so much that I do not deserve and I give credit to God for it all.

Thanksgiving table decor and napkin rings

I added a little fall/Thanksgiving decor to the dining room table. I picked up new place mats when I got the Halloween mats. I picked some that will match my decor year round, but can be accented for the season. I purchased some sunflowers on clearance at Michael's and put them in the crystal vase that is always on the table. I added my dollar hurricanes that I made for Halloween and filled them with some small gourds and pumpkins. Remember my fall wreath and my pondering what to do with the leftover gourds and such? I found a use for them. I had to pick up another package and add to them but that's okay. The other package was on clearance at Michael's as well when I got them.  I reused the thrift store napkins and made new rings. I made the rings from a paper towel roll, scrapbook paper and felt leaves cut with my Sizzix. The die is probably out of production but I'm sure they make another version.  Here is a tutorial for the napkin rings. I won't share m

Fall decor

Last time I posted I shared the rattan balls that are part of my fall decor. Now I'm sharing "the rest of the story" LOL. This is the bookshelf behind my couch, which is pretty much what you see first when you enter my home. I framed the "Stay Calm and Gobble On" from Craftily Ever After   printable in the frame that hubby painted for me with the leftover Krylon paint from the potted trees pr oject, picked up a new arrangement (on sale at Big Lots), a pumpkin with words, and some gourds and pumpkins (70 cents each at Big Lots). I put the pumpkins in the candle holders that are part of my every day decor. I couldn't find any orange/yellow colored candles but I like the pumpkins and gourds. I did order some amber colored candles from Crate and Barrel that arrived last night but I think I'll leave what I've got. This is all so simple and quick to do. I haven't changed the decor since we moved into this house four years ago but I've been inspir

Happy Thanksgiving

food and water. We always have so much more than necessary. I'm truly blessed to have things I like to eat that are extras instead of just enough to live. Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2

my home. I've been blessed with far more than I ever dreamed of in a home. What about you? Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15 Remember to visit Sunday's post and leave a comment.

I'm thankful for...

My husband! Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17 My husband is my best friend. He encourages me, believes in me, and comforts me. He is the kindest, most caring person I've ever known. He is polite to everyone we meet and I'm always proud to be with him. Thanksgiving

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”- Psalm 100:4-5 Thanksgiving should be a time to reflect on all of our blessings and express some gratitude. In appreciation for all I have, I'm hosting a little give away this week. I am thankful for my salvation and my church. What are you thankful for? Leave me a comment for a chance to win this set of notecards. They were hand stamped and made by me. You will receive a set of four cards with envelopes. I will draw a winner on Friday, November 28, 2008. Feel free to post about this on your blog and to link to this. Check in each day to find out what else I'm thankful for.
