Mixed Media Valentine's Tags

Valentine's is my favorite holiday to make art!
That's right-I said art!
These adorable tags are dimensional and I've used several techniques.
The tag itself has Americana Paint rolled on them.
I then used Unity Stamps and embossed the stamped images.
Add some bling from Wild Orchid Flowers and Really Reasonable Ribbon-
and VIOLA!  You have a Mixed Media Tag!!!!

Bohemian Elephant with DecoArt

 Happy Thursday!

Do you love the bohemian pictures like I do?  I decided to put it on canvas!

Of course, Using my Mandala stencil from DecoArt had to be incorporated.

The purple paint tones is perfect for the base coat to show off the stencil which was painted in using a pink color.  Then I used my Posca pens in black and white to add the dots.  To finish it off, I added pearls!  It's much more beautiful in person being able to see the dimension of the the pearls!

Love Snow Flurries Stencils by Rebecca Baer

I love to paint snow scenes.  The Snow Flurries Stencil by Rebecca Baer really captures the delicacy of the snowflake.

The 16x20 painting below I had already painted by background and went over the 5.75x5.75 Snow Flurries stencil with white paint pretty heavily.

"Church in Winter" by Karen Conner

The Snowman below I used the Snow Flurries stencil (size 5.75x5.75) in the background using glazing medium with white paint so you can't see it until the bottom.

I wanted the bottom design to be darker so I used the glazing medium with the Ultramarine blue paint to stencil the Snow Flurries stencil.  I blended the darker blue into the background.

This is my last post on Rebecca Baer's design team.  I have so enjoyed using her intricate stencils and especially the brushes!!  I hope you've been inspired to shop with her and find your own stencils to use in your designs!

Thanks so much Rebecca for great DT year!!

#internationalArt Mixed Media Gift Bag with video

It's been a while since I have been able to participate with the Art Collaberation group I'm a member in. This month we were to do our art inspired by an International artist.  I chose Picasso. I was inspired by his cubism period.

I used DecoArt stencil Dangles and Americana acrylic paint on my gelli plate.

Here's the YouTube video n how I created these bags.

Christmas Tag /Rebecca Baer Stencil

I know it's October, but it's time to get started on Christmas tags!!!

Here's my first one for the year!

I started the base of the tag using my gelli plate and Rebecca Baer's 5.75x5.75 Cascade stencil . I used Naphtali red on top of the stencil, pulled stencil off and let the paint dry. Then added the butterscotch color and pulled the print on the tag.

I used Deco Art Americana acrylic paint-totally awesome for gelli prints!

I embellished the tag with Wild Orchid flowers, Really Reasonable lace, Unity stamp image and sentiment.

Upcycled Composition Book with DecoArt

This was the beginning.  I put a coat of gesso on top of the composition book.  Lay your stencil in the desired position and apply texture paste.  Once it was dry, I added another layers of gesso.
Then the fun begins!!  I spritzed some water on the front and added some drops of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics paints.  Burnt Sienna, Cobalt Turquoise, Cobalt Teal and Titanium white.  Use your finger to move around. Spritz more water if needed. You'll want to dry each color before adding the next so you don't end up with mud!

Once it was dry, I added Metallic Luster to the raised areas of the stencil.  Used Cosmic Blue and Champagne Ice.

Then I used Unity Stamp Indie Girl.

Love how it turned out!!

Flower Fantasy Canvas with Rebecca Baer

Happy Monday!
Karen Conner here again showcasing Rebecca Baer Stencils.
This mixed media canvas ix 16x20.
One tip I'd like to start with is the brush you use to do your stenciling.
I've done a lot of stenciling, have used a lot of brushes and sponges. The best one I've EVER USED is Rebecca Baers Artiste Stenciler. You don't have to scrub and rub till you ruin your brush. You will use the lightest touch and get the most excellent results!  You have to order one TODAY!
I covered the whole canvas with Deco Art Traditions Medium White.  (compared to Titanium white-it's almost a sand color)  then I started stenciling using the LG Enchanted Vine and Yellow Oxide.  I used just the part with the fence part. I kept turning and moving the stencil until I had covered the whole canvas.
I got out my next stencil (my favorite) Lg Dragonfly Fantasy stencil using Sapphire blue. You can use the front and reverse side of the stencil. Since your using the great Artiste Stenciler from Rebecca Baer-the paint practically dries as soon as it's put on the canvas!  I due a little circling after lifting my stencil to soften the edges out.
Using Naphtol Red I free handed the flower.
To add interest and texture to the flower, I stenciled some Deco Art modeling paste through Rebecca Baer's small stencil Honeycomb and allowed to dry.

I put a layer of Burnt Umber, then a layer of Naphtol Red. Highlighted the top edges with Medium White.  The center painted Yellow Oxide. I dotted some Medium White on the top edge of the middle honeycomb.  The flower turned out AWESOME!

I really love using stencils to get movement and interest on my canvas. The backgrounds can be done anyway you want.  I hope you'll be inspired to combine several stencils into one picture!

Butterly Scene /Art Journal

Happy Wednesday!!
Are you ready for some art journal inspiration??

I used Deco Art Media Fluid Acrylics and Rebecca Baer stencil Enchanted Vine-LG
I always gesso my pages before I start my page. The fluid acrylics are used sparingly.  One drop goes a long way!  I used my fingers to rub it around my page.I laid the stencil down and did additional rubbing of paint in the stencil after freehand sketching the butterfly in. I wanted to be sure the main stenciling was done around the butterfly.

I painted several coats of the fluid acrylics on the butterly.  The carbon black covers extremely well!
To finish it up-I painted in all the white parts.

I hope you'll try the stencils in your journals or canvas projects! They have lots of good details.
Thanks for stopping by!

Shaving Cream Technique with YouTube video-Mixed media Canvas

Hello everyone!
I'm participating in the Creative Art Collaboration-a monthly event where we post YouTube video's with a specific hashtag and a common theme.  When you type in the hashtag-everyone's art shows up that in our group. And there are hundreds of artist!!  Doing multiple types of art.  You've got to CHECK-IT-OUT!!
  This month's hashtag is #thinkpinkart
It's in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
Needless to say-pink needs to be in the piece.
My piece today doesn't have a ton of pink-I was more inspired by the picture I saw that I wanted to recreate showing God's hand with another person's hand. I loved it.

 Here's the canvas I created.

You can see my YouTube video here:

I used Word Art Wednesday Scripture by Karen Murray. So I'm entering their weekly challenge with this piece.  You can find them -Word Art Wednesday. Every week they have FREE scripture that is artfully done by Karen Murray.  Check them out!!

Thanks for stopping by-if you have any questions or comments-please leave them here & I'll answer you.

Mixed Media layers with DecoArt and Stampin Up

Lots of layers. Lots of love.

I started with sheets of Baptist hymnal. I used DecoArt matte medium to glue them down.  Then I applied a thin layer of gesso. Using the black archival ink, I stamped several Stampin Up butterflies on tissue paper, cut them out and glued them down with matte medium.

Using my fingers, I rubbed acrylic paint in overlapping layers. Green, yellow, pink, magenta from DecoArt Americana.  I colored in the butterflies with various markers.
I used some light texture paste and did some layering with some stencils.

I typed up Psalm 28:7, printed and glued onto the canvas with matte medium. I outlined each one with a black and lilac watercolor pencil.

After painting my white flower at the bottom left corner, I used various gelatos in several places.
I got some more stencils out and pushed some DecoArt Metallic wax thru in blue and violet.  It gives a beautiful shine!
Once complete, I punched a couple of holes in the top and ran some sheer organza ribbon to hang the canvas.
here's a close up showing some of the layering.  It's beautiful in person!!

9x12 Mixed Media /Grateful Heart

Happy Wednesday-hump day!
I am excited to share with you a new -favorite- canvas I did.
I brayed a couple of Americana acrylic paint colors on the canvas.  Had to go back over the ones I really wanted to show up good (especially the red).
Then I sprayed black spritzer thru the stencil.  Did you know DecoArt also sells stencils??!!
They have some awesome ones to choose from.

Then I used warm white acrylic paint thru another DecoArt stencil (French Words).  Shows up so well.
The heart I hand drew on a piece of watercolor paper-I really wanted a thicker piece to DecoArt decoupage on my canvas.  I used my brayer for the heart as well. After several coats and layering, the paper started pulling up a little-really added to the texture.  To finish the heart, I went around the edges with black gelato & I dry brushed cream acrylic paint in the curves.  I really love how it turned out.
I used a white Posca pen to write the sentiment.

Frozen look alike! Mixed Media canvas

I'm back again today with another mixed media canvas.

I had draw this girl a while back. I loaded her into photoshop and did some "fixing" of her hair to get more blonde.  Printed it out on regular cardstock. Created the background and added her to it.

The background:  applied layers of thin designer paper with DecoArt matte decoupage.
Watered down some Americana paint and went over the pages.
Mixed some purple DecoArt Media spray into some texture paste and ran it around the edges.
While it's wet I drew some squiggles with the end of a paint brush.  Allow to dry completely.
I added some Americana Indian turquoise to DecoArt Sand Texture and applied thru
a DecoArt stencil in random areas. Allow to dry completely.

Then you add the girl and the words (cut on my Silouette)
Anytime I add cardstock to my canvas I like to go around it with matching paint and a fine brush. It helps to "ground" it into the canvas so it feels like a part of the finished piece.
After that step had dried good, I added some dots with DecoArt Paper Effects in silver.
Final thing to do: seal it with Americana Satin sealer.
The shine is the satin sealer I used.

Mi-xed Media-texture-depth-dimension

I hope you're having a great week.  I wanted to share with you one of my newest projects.
I did the hearts separately from the canvas and added them for dimension using large dots on the back to raise them off the canvas.
I started with some 140lb watercolor paper. I did a coat of DecoArt gesso on top.
Using DecoArt decoupage for fabric I glued down some lace, washi tape and book page. Allow to dry.  Then I took some distress stains and pounced them on top. Use your heat gun to dry some of it, but I also dabbed some off with a paper towel.  Gives you different shades.
I dripped some water on there and dabbed off to get more dimension.  I used a sponge and added some walnut distress ink to edges.  The little heart I stamped a design on it.  I love how all of them turned out.
On the 12x12 canvas itself, I added some sealer over a stencil before inking in some spots (the diamond shapes). I added some texture paste thru DecoArt doily stencil in various places.  After applying the same colors of inks to the canvas, I rubbed some DecoArt Metallic wax (gold) on top of the raised areas of the doily.  I layered some lace, washi tape and book pages to the canvas too. Love all the texture!!

Went around the edge of the canvas with black gelato. Rub it in with your finger.
When complete, I sealed the top with spray varnish-gives a glossy finish.  I love it!!

Fluid Art with DecoArt Interference Paint

I've been experimenting with fluid art.   Trying to get cells to create is hard! I've tried multiple mediums, multiple products.  Th...
