Warhammer Forge Newsletter

I'd forgotten that Warhammer Forge was even a thing, lol.

It's almost like there's something big about to happen in the world of Warhammer Fantasy and Forge World are braced to cash in...or am I being cynical?

We've put together some pdfs providing rules for all of the monsters from Monstrous Arcanum that we have released as resin models. Click on the banner above or go to the Downloads section of the Forge World website to see a full list of these pdfs.

Warhammer Forge Newsletter #41

Giant River Troll Hag

River Trolls inhabit the dark fens and marshes of the Old World, and have a reputation of being particularly foul and smelly, none more so than the Giant River Troll Hags. With lank hair, fetid breath and slime coated scaly skin, they are as revolting as they are formidable. Their tough hides are able to heal wounds at an incredible rate and their long loping limbs possess fearsome strength. Attracted by the rotting carrion left in the aftermath of a battle, Giant River Troll Hags and their brethren can be found accompanying armies of greenskins, who are often keen to exploit their brute force whenever they go to war.

Designed by
Trish Carden, the Giant River Troll Hag is a multi-part resin model, covered in many details, from assorted creatures and items in the net to a small lobster on the base. It is available to pre-order now and will also be available as a pre-release at Games Day UK in limited quantities. Orders for this model will be despatched from Monday 30th September
Giant River Troll Hag

Warhammer Forge - Dread Maw

You'll be surprised to hear that I actually like this...

If I ever have £52 spare and can work out what Mantic Kings of War Undead unit it can count as then I might even buy one.....

"With their circular mouths, studded with rows of sickle-shaped teeth, Dread Maws can seize and devour a fully armoured man in seconds. Often, smaller prey is swallowed whole, but even the largest creatures will fall foul of the Dread Maw's ravenous appetite. Bursting forth from beneath the ground and latching on with their hooked teeth, they can tear their way inside the greatest of beasts, eviscerating them from within and quickly hollowing out their ruptured carcass. "

...admittedly it's a Sandworm with a bit of Dragon thrown in but I don't think we can really hold that against it, lol.

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

Warhammer Forge Newsletter #38

Warhammer Forge Newsletter # 38

Hi there,
This week we bring you an ancient monster of the deeps, rarely spoken of save in the tales of embittered sailors who have lost their ships on the high seas of the Warhammer world to one of these terrifying beasts, the Merwyrm. We also have some news about our attendance at Origins in Ohio and reservation orders for Games Day North America.
Merwyrm
The seas of the Old World are home to many dark horrors, not least of which are the dreaded Merwyrms. These ancient creatures stalk the depths of the ocean in search of prey, propelled at great speed by their long tail and sinuous body.

Dry land is no sanctuary against these voracious monsters however, and when food is scarce they have been known to assault coastal villages, devouring their inhabitants and leaving little but a trail of devastation in their wake. Many armies in the Warhammer World, particularly the High Elves, have used binding scrolls to unleash the might of Merwyrms against their enemies.

The
Merwyrm is depicted coiled around the wreck of a boat, whose hapless crew have done little to sate this vicious creature’s boundless hunger. The model measures approximately 155mm (6") long and 130mm (5") tall to the tip of its tail, and rules for these nightmares of the deep can be found in Monstrous Arcanum. The Merwyrm, designed by Trish Carden, is a multi-part resin kit that is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday June 28th.

Games Day North America
Saturday 27th July is the date for this year’s North American Games Day at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis. We are now taking reservation orders for this event. Warhammer Forge Newsletter #36

For the few remaining people who still play Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer Forge have released some Orcs and an expensive Realm of Battle tile.....

Warhammer Forge Newsletter #36

26/03/13

Hi there,
We turn our attention to the brutal Orcs in today’s newsletter, with a fantastically detailed new character set now available to pre-order. We’ve also got a great new hollow resin scenery tile for you too, as well as a reminder about an upcoming event.
Orc Command Set
The greenskinned Orcs are a brutal and savage species; hulking, powerful and possessed of a low cunning often underestimated by their myriad enemies. Their armies are commanded by a Warboss; the biggest, strongest and most powerful of their number. As the Warboss’ tally of victories grows, so too does its stature, resulting in the great Waaagh!s being led by hulking, verdant monsters who stand head and shoulders above the teeming masses who follow in their wake.
Even the lowliest Warboss will go to war festooned with trophies taken from its previous victims and clad in crude and slab-like mail and plate; invariably armed to the teeth with a variety of brutal axes, cleavers and knives.
As the Warboss wins more victories and grows in notoriety, its vanity and ego will also increase. A subordinate will often be granted the honour of carrying a great, ramshackle standard into battle; loudly and vulgarly proclaiming the Warboss’ prowess in the form of crude glyphs and the broken arms and armour of the vanquished.
The Orc Command Set, designed by Edgar Skomorowski, contains two multi-part resin models. Each massive Orc is packed with jaw-dropping detail; from the severed wing of a great Wyvern bearing the broken body of a Trollslayer, carried by the Standard Bearer, to the mighty battered axe and the hateful bellow etched upon the Warboss’ features.
This fantastic character set is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 3rd May.
Realm of Battle Earthworks
Blake Spence has recently finished a new hollow resin Realm of Battle tile, the Realm of Battle Earthworks. This is a fantastic addition to any Warhammer Realm of Battle gaming table; a hillside position fortified with two earthen bastions for artillery pieces, a forward ravelin, and an additional cavalier. The tile also features sufficient space for units of supporting missile troops, and Blake has packed it with plenty of detail, from cached barrels of blackpowder to discarded shields and crossbows.
Such defensive positions are a common hallmark of the Dwarfs and Empire armies, particularly the vaunted artillery trains of Nuln, and it is indeed a rare army of Sigmar’s Empire that does not draw up its ranks with emplaced artillery at its back. The Earthworks can also be used to represent an area that has been overrun by forces of a more destructive nature such as the Orcs and Goblins and the hordes of the Chaos Gods.
The Realm of Battle Earthworks tile measures 2' x 2' (609mm x 609mm). It is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 3rd May.

Warhammer Forge #30

This is where I'd normally make some sarcastic comment about the stupidity of random charge distances, challenges and the chariot rules...unfortunately 40K has those as well now...

Warhammer Forge Newsletter # 30
03/08/12

Hi there,
We return to the Black Fortress in this week’s newsletter as the monstrous Chaos Dwarf Bull Centaurs are now available to pre-order. We’ve also got an events update for you, as in addition to attending Games Day Germany, GenCon and PAX in August, Games Day Australia reservation orders are now being taken.
Chaos Dwarf Bull Centaur Renders
Chaos Dwarf Bull Centaur RendersTwisted amalgams of ferocious bull and Chaos Dwarf, Bull Centaur Renders are hulking and monstrous creatures who rage with a great hunger for flesh. The first of their kind were survivors of the Time of Chaos. Warped by the tides of horror that engulfed the Warhammer world, more than any other they were twisted into the semblance of Hashut, the terrible Father of Darkness to whom the Chaos Dwarfs cleave.
As the Chaos Dwarf empire rose to dominance of the Dark Lands, the Bull Centaurs were entrusted with the protection of Hashut’s sacred fanes, and they came to serve as shock troops and temple guardians. A handful of such ‘blessed’ kin are born into each generation. Their strength and endurance far exceeds that of any other Chaos Dwarf, and they are swifter in battle thanks to their dread forms. As they age, their flesh distorts and hardens into metal, and they must seek poultices of molten mercury, steel sutures and brazen splints from their Sorcerer-masters, having lost the ability to heal naturally from any wounds they suffer.
Designed by Edgar Skomorowski, the Chaos Dwarf Bull Centaur Renders is a set of incredibly detailed full resin models that comprises three Bull Centaurs armed with hand weapons and shields. These fantastic models are available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 31st August. Rules for these savage creatures can be found in both Tamurkhan: The Throne of Chaos as part of the Legion of Azgorh army list, and as a binding scroll in Monstrous Arcanum.

Hi there,
In this week’s newsletter we delve deep into the shadowy forests of Bretonnia to bring you the latest release from Monstrous Arcanum, the savage Preyton, which is now available to pre-order. We’ve also got a reminder of our upcoming appearances at Games Days in Spain and North America, for which we are currently accepting reservation orders.
The Preyton
PreytonFoolhardy knights of Bretonnia sometimes mistake the savage and hateful Preyton for the noble Great Stags of their land, and will follow this twisted beast, possessed of a dark cunning, into the very deepest parts of the forest. Only there, where there is little chance of escape, will it finally reveal its deadly form, its savage fangs, leonine paws and monstrous wings, and attack the unsuspecting warrior.
While their appearance is truly vile, it is the legendary malice of the Preyton that makes them particularly dangerous. Corpses mauled beyond recognition and tracts of forest befouled and trampled betray their presence, the savage creature often discarding the torn ruin of their victims to rot, killing out of pure hatred rather than hunger.
Little is known of their origins, but dark legend has it that in ages past they were  Great Stags who were enslaved and corrupted before sacrifice-strewn herdstones. Now, bereft of their nobility, the Preytons know only an all-encompassing hatred for that which they have lost.
The Preyton is a finely detailed multi-part resin kit designed by Steve Whitehead. Rules to field this savage creature in your games of Warhammer can be found in Monstrous Arcanum, and the kit is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 29th June.

As always we will be bringing a huge selection of our range of resin kits, modelling supplies and books, and we’re now accepting reservation orders for both these events. Warhammer Forge Newsletter #24

Those guys at Forge World have been spending time on stuff that isn't 40K again.....

Warhammer Forge Newsletter #24

02/03/12

Hi there,
We have two fantastic new releases in this week’s newsletter: the savage and brutal Skin Wolves and the rather more quirky Arcane Frogs. We’re also excited to announce the first details of the Forge World Open Day which will be held at Warhammer World on Sunday 1st April.
Skin Wolves
Skin WolvesMany are the dark and nightmarish horrors that the Ruinous Powers have visited upon the world, yet few are as strange as the Skin Wolves of legend. The witch-curs’d and Chaos-tainted men and women afflicted with this gift from their unholy gods bear a mutation that does not show as a stigmata of the flesh, but instead lurks in the blood, a slumbering beast to be roused by dark sacrifice and unspeakable ritual.
When this horror is unleashed, there is no mere transformation from man into beast; instead a great humanoid wolf-thing bursts fully-formed from the body of the human. Lean and half-insane with Chaos-tainted hunger, the Skin Wolf is so-named for the scraps and tatters of flesh and chunks of gristle that cling to its hulking frame; all that remains of the human form it once bore. Only once battle is spent and their voracious hunger sated will the transformation be reversed, the flesh of the Skin Wolf collapsing into a pallid and terrible mass from which the human must tear itself free.
The Skin Wolves set, designed by Keith Robertson, contains three multi-part resin models, each packed with amazing detail and dynamically posed. This kit is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 30th March. A set of experimental rules that allow the Skin Wolves to be used alongside any Warhammer army in Storm of Magic games can be downloaded now, taken from the forthcoming Monstrous Arcanum book.
Arcane Frogs
Skin WolvesThe physical effect of a Storm of Magic on the Warhammer world is most often visible in the great Arcane Fulcrums that rear from the earth, drawn forth by the howling gales of sorcerous power. Controlling and channelling such unimaginable energy is not without its risks however, and if it goes awry dramatic and sudden transformations can occur, leaving once-mighty spell casters no more than bloated amphibians atop their eldritch perches.
The Arcane Frogs set comprises two whimsical and detailed resin miniatures, designed by Mark Bedford and Thais Mariblanca Lopez. Each bears a suspicious resemblance to the mighty spell caster they once were, and are suitable for use with any Warhammer army, or even as Chaos Familiars or similar creatures. This set is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 30th March.
Forge World Events News:
Forge World Open Day, 1st April, Warhammer World, Nottingham

Sunday 1st April will see us abandon our top-secret Manufactorum for our annual
Open Day. This year’s event is even bigger and better than ever, as we will be taking over not only the Gaming Hall for our Sales stands, but also the Staff Restaurant for our Studio displays
You can now download a
map of the event from the Forge World Events page to guide you around the Open Day, and we’ll be bringing you even more information about the event in future newsletters. Today though, we can reveal a few details about our Studio and Sales areas.
The entirety of the Forge World and Warhammer Forge model design teams will be present throughout the day, and each designer will be showcasing their recent work as well as future releases and work-in-progress models that have never before been seen. You’ll be able to chat to all our designers about the process of creating such detailed kits, how they are painted and maybe even get a few hints about future projects as well!
The Book Production team of writers, artists and graphic designers will also be on hand, with lavish displays of the full-colour artwork that graces the pages of an Imperial Armour or Warhammer Forge book. Rumour has it that you’ll even be able to see first-hand the work and skill that goes into producing our artwork. The writing team will undoubtedly be showcasing proof copies of future books as well as the febrile scribblings that form the basis of each storyline. Who knows what dark hints will be dropped about projects as yet unannounced?
As well as our Studio team, many of our detailed display boards will be set up for you to take a look at, including those built for the Doom of Mymeara, and Raid on Kastorel-Novem Imperial Armour books. We also intend to run a ‘Studio Café’ Q&A session in the afternoon in which a panel of key members of the team will take your questions (and maybe even answer them too!).
Our Sales stand will be packed with a huge selection of resin kits, books and modelling supplies, including some pre-release kits that will be announced in future newsletters, and as always the Open Day will be the first chance to purchase our 2012 Event Only models. We’ve designed a Warhammer Forge and a Forge World model once again, and while we can’t tell you what they are just yet, suffice to say that we are very excited about them!
We are now accepting reservation orders for the Forge World Open Day, which is the best way to ensure we have the exact product you want, packed up and waiting for you at the event. As with all our UK shows, Open Day reservation orders are pre-paid to make the collection process quicker and easier, leaving you with more time to enjoy the rest of the event
Please telephone the Customer Service team on 0115 900 4995 to place a reservation order. We will require your name, contact telephone number and e-mail address along with the list of products you wish to reserve, and you will need your card details to hand. We’ll process the payment while you are on the phone, and in the week before the event you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail containing your order number. This is your proof of payment, and you must bring this e-mail with you to claim your order.
The Open Day runs from 10am to 4pm and all of Warhammer World’s facilities will be available throughout the day, including Bugman’s Bar for breakfast, lunch, and refreshments. The event is free to attend, no pre-registration or booking is required, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Warhammer Forge Newsletter # 18

Hi there,
In this week’s newsletter another debased monster of the Warhammer world is unleashed for you to purchase: the Curs’d Ettin. We’ve also got a reminder of our last shipping deadlines for pre-Christmas delivery, and an events update for GCN club members.

Curs’d Ettin
Curs'd EttinRenowned in dread Norscan sagas, the twin-headed, hulking Ettins are terrors of the high places. They dwell in lonely caverns and shattered citadels, splattered with the blood of their victims and carrying their stigma as a curse under whose torment they are bound to eternally suffer, despising all else that walks or crawls in the world.
While of a similar stature to the lumbering giants of the Old World, a
Curs’d Ettin can be easily identified by its singular deformities and cruel intellect; born so it is said of an ancient treachery against the Dark Gods themselves, for whom they reserve their most bitter hatred.
The Curs’d Ettin, designed by Edgar Skomorowski, is a full resin monster packed with amazing detail, from its grotesquely twisted form to the jagged chunk of warpstone clutched in one hand as a primitive weapon. The Curs’d Ettin is available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing 28th November, and experimental rules for this rapacious creature are available to download now, taken from the forthcoming Warhammer Forge Monstrous Arcana expansion book.

We can be reached on 0115 916 8177 within the UK, 011 44 115 916 8177 from the US and Canada, and 00 44 115 916 8177 from much of Europe.

To place a reservation, either send an e-mail entitled ‘Club Celebration reservation’ to forgeworldreservations@games-workshop.co.uk enclosing your name and a list of the items you’d like to reserve or you can also place a reservation order by telephone on 0115 916 8177. In the week before the event you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail containing an order number, details of any items we’ve been unable to reserve for you, and a total cost payable upon collection.
To buy tickets your gaming club must be registered with Games Workshop, so give Bek Hawkby a call for more details. The numbers are very limited so act fast to reserve your places! The event is open to club members aged 12+ and all under 16’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
