Wyrd Games - Monday Preview

Something new from the Wyrd Games Monday Preview...
-----------------
Happy Monday Wyrdos!  Today was a bit of an odd one.  I wandered into the office and found an envelope on my desk.  No markings on it.  I discovered these guys in that envelope.  Unsure of what it might mean, I figured I would leave it to the community to help me figure out.  What do you think these are?  Speculate away!

Wyrd Games - Monday Preview

A Monday Preview from Wyrd Games...
--------------------
Happy Monday Wyrdos!  Today we take a look at an upcoming Story Encounter & Adventure Box, The Undying.  It contains thrills and chills for Through the Breach as well as some amazing new models for Malifaux.  Let's take a look!
The Undying details two forces that have come into contact with each other: the Resurrectionists and the Ten Thunders. Today, we'll be looking at the leader of the Resurrectionist forces, Manos the Risen, and his two  Mourners.

Manos is an immortal assassin who once belonged to the Order of Balance, a group of priests, warriors, and assassins who brought an end to those who had fallen from the kharmic wheel. The Order were mortal enemies of the Jiangshi, terrible sorcerers who fed on the souls of helpless peasants to extend their own, unnatural lives.

The immortal sorcerers corrupted Manos and taught him how to feed on the souls of the fallen, and he used that knowledge to grant himself a perverse form of immortality. Bolstered with forbidden knowledge, he returned to the Order and murdered all of his former friends... all save for one, Minako Rei.

After he takes an assignment, nothing - not even death - can stop Manos from completing his mission. On the table, he harvests the Chi of those who die around him and expends it to increase his own capabilities, becoming Fast, more resistant, or empowering his powerful Celestial Strike attack, which ignores Hard to Kill.

Accompanying Manos are his Mourners. These undead women are defensive Belles; with Disguised and Manipulative, they're difficult to target, and their Funeral Shroud action prevents enemy models in their engagement range from targeting anyone not in base contact with them.

The Mourners aren't entirely defensive, though. They also possess the Feed off Grief attack, a ranged attack that heals them if it kills the target. Better yet, the attack is resisted by Willpower.

Perhaps it's time for Seamus to swing by the local cemetery to pick up some new friends!

Wyrd Games - Monday Preview

This weeks Monday Preview from Wyrd is a look at a character from their upcoming 'Bayou Bash' game...and last weeks that for some reason I forgot to post...
--------------------
Happy Monday Wyrdos!  It's time for another preview, and it is time to take a look at the Rooster Rider from the upcoming Bayou Bash!!
Whether he was too egg-cited from watching the mayhem of the race or accidentally found himself on the track and decided to wing it, the Rooster’s joined in on the chaos of the Bayou Bash and has been ruffling feathers ever since.

Running at beakneck speed down the track, riding this reckless Rooster is the nest best thing to being catapulted toward the finish line, and just about as challenging to control, too. His ability to kick it up a notch by gaining movement dice at the risk of staggering more often allows this bird-brain to fly by the competition, even if it might mean taking a dust bath off the track.

You won’t have to pull out any feathers in anticipation for much longer. The cluck is ticking until Bayou Bash is released this year!

Bayou Bash is an upcoming racing game filled with speed, out of control animals, and good old fashioned fighting. Become a jockey in the most dangerous race this side of the Breach, doing everything you can to wow spectators and fans as you barrel toward the finish line.

With an assortment of wild animals and slightly unhinged Gremlins, Bayou Bash encourages players to cut loose and move as fast as they can, only slowing down to try to send their fellow racers careening off the track.

Speaking of mounts, the Pig is one of the meanest in the swamp. She is an aggressive powerhouse in the race. While some racers excel at speed or stability, the Pig uses her tusks to toss around the competition. Don’t let her pretty bow fool you! The Pig isn’t afraid to take a dip in the mud in order to push her opponents around.

Be sure to check out Bayou Bash, coming later this year!

Wyrd Games - Monday Preview

A new Through the Breach RPG Monday preview from Wyrd Games...
--------------------
Happy Monday Wyrdos!  In Malifaux Soulstones are a powerful item to have in your possession.  In today's preview, we take a look at a character who can use them better than anyone else!
The Soulstone Aficionado is an advanced pursuit from Above the Law that focuses on expanding the use of Soulstones. Aficionados increase the range at which their Soulstones gain charges from dying characters, and each time they complete a step of the advanced pursuit, one of their allies gives them a raw, uncut Soulstone. The more charming the character is, the higher the Soulstone's Lade.

As an Aficionado becomes more skilled, they  becomes capable of increasingly impressive Soulstone-related feats, such as granting Fast to anyone they heal with a Soulstone to that old staple of 1e Malifaux, draining the souls of everyone around them to replenish an uncharged Soulstone. At the peak of their power, Soulstone Aficionados can actually spend a Soulstone's charges to draw cards from the Fate Deck into their hand, allowing them to mold and shape fate in ways hitherto unseen in Through the Breach.

After seeing a Soulstone Aficionado in action, it's easy to see why the Guild is so interested in controlling the world's supply of Soulstones....

Wyrd Games - Monday Preview

A Monday 'Through the Breach' RPG preview...
---------------------
After a cold weekend here, it's time for the Witchling Handler to warm us up as a part of our Monday Preview!  That sword looks nice and toasty, but I wouldn't get too close!  Let's take a peek!
Witchling Handlers are an advanced pursuit in the upcoming Through the Breach supplement, Above the Law. As one might expect, Witchling Handlers can order Witchling Stalker subordinate characters into combat, providing a very effective (and very volatile) fighting force. When a character becomes a Witchling Handler, she also gains a runed weapon that not only ignores the Incorporeal rule but also allows her to command all of her Witchling Stalkers with a single action. Furthermore, a bit of concentration while holding the runed weapon allows the Handler to discern the direction and distance to every Witchling Stalker under her control, which will no doubt open up some interesting "hide a Witchling in a crate" plans on the tabletop.

Beyond an increasing number of loyal Witchlings, Handlers gain a resistance to Burning (an occupational hazard of working with minions that explode in fireballs when killed), triggers to immediately end magical conditions, and an increased ability to wield fire magic.

Those Arcanists will never sleep peacefully again!

A Wyrd Games 'Through the Breach' Monday preview.....
--------------------
Happy Monday Wyrdos!  Now you might be thinking to yourself "Hey, the Executioner isn't new!".  And while the model has been around for a while, we are happy to show off the new Executioner Advanced Pursuit from Above the Law.  Without further ado, let's take a look!
The Executioner is an advanced pursuit for the upcoming Through the Breach expansion, Above the Law. As the name suggests, Executioners eschew subtlety for raw, visceral murdering potential.

Originally, Executioners were bodyguards and enforcers that travelled alongside the Guild's circuit judges as they made the rounds between the northern Contract Towns, settling disputes and bringing the Guild's law to the frontier. When the M&SU came into power, the willingness of Northerners to submit to Guild justice dwindled, and eventually, the circuit judges simply stopped leaving the city. The Executioners were folded into the ranks of the Guild Guard, where they have become powerful tools of intimidation and carnage.

To become an Executioner, a character has to demonstrate complete and unwavering loyalty to the Guild. If they pass the Guild's tests and agree to accept the invitation, the character is then marched off to the Amalgamation Office to have one or more of their hands replaced with deadly Executioner Claws.

As a new Executioner continues to serve the Guild, she gradually becomes more and more certain of her purpose. This grants her the powerful Love the Job Talent, which allows her to heal every time she deals a Severe Critical Effect to an opponent... and to heal quite a bit more if that Critical Effect kills her target.

By far the most amazing ability possessed by experienced Executioners, however, is the Bloody Exhibition Trigger. It takes two Rams to trigger, but if her target is suffering from one or more Critical Effects, she gains a +Ram to her attack flip, making it much easier for her to quickly bring down a wounded opponent.

Boss fights of the world beware, the Executioner is here!

Another new pursuit from Wyrd Games upcoming supplement to their Through the Breach RPG...
--------------------
Hey everyone! Today we're taking a look at another Pursuit from the upcoming Through the Breach supplement, Above the Law.  The Guild has lots of red tape and politics, but sometimes it needs raw firepower.  For that purpose, the Gunner Pursuit is just what they need.
Gunners are a combat Pursuit that focuses on the use of chain guns, cannons, ribauldequins, and other heavy guns. As one might expect, the Gunners can crank up the number of attacks produced by automatic weapons, but many of their Talents are actually somewhat defensive: the Behind the Gun Talent grants the Gunner the equivalent of Heavy Armor whenever she's wielding a Heavy Gun weapon, for instance.

Most of the time, the easiest way to deal with ranged weapons is to close to melee range in order to shut down melee attacks and force the opponent to waste valuable time swapping to a melee weapon. Gunners, however, begin with the Heavy Weaponry Talent, which allows them to wield their Heavy Gun weapons as if they were Heavy Melee weapons. Why go through the hassle of swapping to a melee weapon when you can just hit the opponent with the heavy chunk of metal you're already holding?

The rest of the Gunner Pursuit is essentially a collection of useful abilities that are applicable to both rapid-fire Gatling weapons and heavy cannons in even measure. Annoyed that you can't just pick up a cannon and carry it around with you? The Walking Artillery Talent will let you stride into combat with that cannon barrel slung under your arm without need for a weapon brace. Want to charge into combat while firing a Gatling gun at full speed? The Fusillade Advance Talent lets you declare ranged attacks with the Charge Action. Swarmed by a horde of baddies? Use Mow Down to take a shot at every enemy in range.

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

Wyrd Games - Monday Preview

Another preview from the upcoming supplement to Wyrd Games 'Through the Breach' RPG...
--------------------
It's everyone's favorite day, preview day! Malifaux is a place where a look can be just as deadly as any blade or firearm. The Bureaucrat knows that and does their best to make as many allies as they can. The Bureaucrat then uses those allies to get what they need done.  Now let's take a look!
The Bureaucrat is a social pursuit that revolves around the using political favors to solve problems. Characters who begin the game as Bureaucrats start with a powerful Fatemaster character (such as the President of the Union or the Governor-General) owing them a big favor, but even if a character decides to become a Bureaucrat later in their career, they still gain the ability to call upon their network of allies for favors of increasing magnitude. Need an invitation to a high-class dinner party or a meeting with a notorious smuggler? There's a good chance that a Bureaucrat knows someone who can make it happen.

Bureaucrats can also draw upon their network of allies to learn information about specific people, such as which faction arranged for someone's arrival in Malifaux, where they live, who their known associates might be, and what sort of things the subject of their interest has been doing over the past month. This makes Bureaucrats experts at gathering information and solving problems. Plus, with their Plausible Deniability Talent, they can discard a card to avoid any sort of repercussions from being accused of a crime (other than a few scandalous rumors, of course).

While it's obvious to see how a Bureaucrat might function within the framework of the Guild, this Pursuit also works well for Ten Thunders information brokers, Neverborn spies, and politicians of every conceivable allegiance.

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

Wyrd Games - 'Monday' Preview

A somewhat belatedly posted Wyrd Games 'Monday' preview featuring yet another new Through the Breach RPG pursuit...
--------------------
Tonight is Halloween, the spookiest of all days!  And if you are a magic user in Malifaux, then nothing is spookier than the Guild.  But there are some magic users who the guild tolerates, as long as they prove useful.  To that effect, we are taking a look at the Magewright from the upcoming Above the Law expansion for Through the Breach.
The Magewright is a magic-using Pursuit that focuses upon the use of Enchanting Magic. Like its sister Pursuits, the Dabbler and Graverobber, the Magewright gives characters access to additional Magia and Immuto, allowing them to exceed the normal limitations of their Grimoire. Magewrights have a few tricks that their counterparts do not, however, such as increasing the Aspects of characters affected by their spells and temporarily enchanting weapons with magical power.

Perhaps the most interesting Talent possessed by Magewrights is Enchant Item, which allows a character to store a spell in an object for later release. The possibilities that this talent opens up are limited only by the character's imagination (and her Magia): invisibility cloaks, healing elixirs, and far-seeing spectacles are just the tip of what a crafty Magewright can create. Another fun Talent is Spontaneous Animation, which allows Magewrights to transform piles of scrap into subservient Clockwork Traps, simply as a side effect of casting their Enchantment spells.

Outside of their mechanical strengths, Magewrights also have the interesting benefit of working very well with the Thalarian Doctrine, one of the few "legal" ways to use magic in Malifaux. The Guild makes use of its Magewrights to enchant the weapons of its Witch Hunters and to churn out magical bullets for the Nephilim Hunters, as well as to animate the battle constructs of the Amalgamation Office. There are also independent Magewrights in the city that are authorized to legally sell their magical talents... provided that they submit to frequent Witch Hunter inspections.

Wyrd Games - Monday Preview

This weeks Wyrd Games Monday Preview is from their Through the Breach RPG...
--------------------
Another Monday means another preview!  Today we are looking at the Marksman pursuit from Above the Law, the upcoming Guild supplement for Through the Breach.  Let's learn a little bit about this new pursuit!
The Marksman Pursuit allows a character to focus upon ranged combat - with an emphasis on "ranged" - more than any other Pursuit. While the Gunslinger might throw out a wild flurry of pistol shots and the Boomer might unleash the raw devastation of a powerful shotgun, the Marksman takes a more patient approach by carefully lining up her shots before pulling the trigger.

This focus is evident in the Marksman's Talents. Right from the very start, the Marksman gains the powerful Take Aim action, which allows her to increase the range of her projectile weapons  (whether they're rifles, pistols, or cannons) by an impressive four yards. As she advances, a Marksman gains access to additional Talents that allow her to remain on the back lines of a battle, ideally hidden in a place of cover as she steadily and patiently debuffs her enemies with carefully-placed shots.

The reputation of the Guild's expertly-trained riflemen makes them the most obvious examples of Marksmen in Malifaux, but this Pursuit would also be appropriate for anyone wanting to emulate patient ranged killers like the Katanaka Snipers or the December Acolytes (their harpoon guns are Long Arm weapons, after all). The Gremlins are pretty fond of their ramshackle rifles, too, if your trigger finger is itching for a bit of Bayou action...

Wyrd Games - Monday Preview

This weeks Monday preview from Wyrd Games is from their Through the Breach RPG
--------------------

Boy oh boy is today a good Monday!  We are looking at some awesome new art from the upcoming Through the Breach book, Above the Law!  Check out some sweet new art and a little background below!
The Commander is one of the new Pursuits (i.e., classes) available in Above the Law. Commanders march into battle alongside subordinate troops, which they can attract to their service at the start of every session. This ensures that a Commander has a steady supply of expendable soldiers to do her bidding. As a Commander advances further into the Pursuit, she gains the ability to enhance the effectiveness of her soldiers and even call upon hidden snipers that she moved into position before the battle even started.

While most Commanders work for the Guild (they're found in the Guild expansion book, after all!), the Pursuit and the soldiers are generic enough to meet the needs of any character, no matter the faction with which she works. In the end, it's about sending good men and women to their deaths for the Commander's own benefit, and that's a cake that anyone can serve.

A Monday Malifaux preview from Wyrd Games...
--------------------

Monday's aren't always great, but Malifaux previews make them better!  We are continuing looking at some additional art for models out of Broken Promises!  This week we are taking a look at the Medical Automaton.  Now to find out about the job this little robot does!

Working in the mines is dangerous work, and often times, there simply aren't enough doctors to ensure that every Contract Town has someone capable of treating wounds.

The Medical Automaton arose out of that need.  At first it was seen as a bit of a marvel as it was able to perform a number of complicated tasks just as well as a skilled doctor.  As it tended to more patients, though, its flaws started to become more apparent...

Wyrd Games - Monday Preview

A Wyrd Games Malifaux 'Monday Preview'.....
--------------------

Hey Wyrdos!  Another Monday another preview!  With Broken Promises released, we are taking a look at some art from outside of the book!  Today we are taking a look at some art for the Bayou Smuggler that isn't in the book!  Let's learn a little about this swamp dweller!

The Guild doesn't tend to look favourably upon trade with the Gremlins of the Bayou, particularly when that trade involves firearms (which make the gremlins more dangerous) or moonshine (which cuts into the profits of the Guild's lucrative alcohol sales).  For a Bayou Smuggler the potential profit that can be made by trading firearms, moonshine, bacon, and clothing from one race to another greatly outweighs the risk of getting caught by the Guild.

A Wyrd Games Monday 'Malifaux' preview...
--------------------

Hey Wyrdos!  Time for another Malifaux preview!  Today we are taking a look at the art for Hinamatsu from Broken Promises.  Let's learn a little bit about this puppet!
Hinamatsu is an old puppet.  Given life only a short time after Collodi itself, Hinamatsu was created to perform in theater productions opposite living actors.  It grew jealous of the attention heaped upon the other performers, however, and murdered one of them out of spite.  Fearing further incidents, Hinamatsu's master lured it into entering an underground vault near Debtor's Delve and sealed the puppet inside.  Locked away in that hidden place for over a century, Hinamatsu swore that it would never again follow another's instructions.

A Wyrd Games Malifaux 'Monday Preview'...
--------------------

Hey Wyrdos!  Time for another Monday Preview!  Today we are going to take a look at the Bone Pile from Broken Promises.  What is special about it, is this art is not in the new book!  This is the first look anyone is getting of it.  Let's learn a little about the Bone Pile.
In the summer of 1906, the Ressurectionist Nicodem raised a horde of zombies and marched on the Guild Enclave.  He was defeated, however, and nearly all of his zombies were destroyed by the Death Marshals.  In the wake of his attack, corpses became scarce and the other Ressurectionists were forced to open up older tombs and crypts to find new minions.  Thus was born the Bone Pile.

Wyrd Games - 'Monday' Preview

I forgot to post this Monday Malifaux preview yesterday...so here it is a day late...
---------------------

Another Monday here at Wyrd means another Monday preview!  This time we are taking a look at some new art for Yan-Lo.  If you aren't familiar with this master, here is a bit of background on him!
Much of Yan Lo's history is lost to him. Many years ago, he was cursed for committing a terrible crime, cast out from the world of the living and forced to wander the paths of the spirit world in a confused fugue. He would be there still, were it not for his niece, Chiaki.

For years, Chiaki's parents told her the legend of her ancestor, a fearsome sorcerer who had been cursed to a wretched existence trapped halfway between life and death. When Chiaki came to Malifaux, she slowly reached out to her ancestor's spirit, cultivating the thin, flickering essence of her ancestor that still burned within the heart of the wretched spirit he had become. Gradually, she was able to rekindle that spark into a burning flame and restore her ancestor's mind.

In the years since his return to sanity, Yan Lo has served the Ten Thunders as their spy within the Resurrectionist organization. Those who are aware of his identity treat the old man with great care and respect, for they have seen first hand how ruthlessly Yan Lo harvests the souls of those who disrespect him. Ripped from whatever afterlife might have awaited them, these souls of these fools become little more than fuel for the ancient sorcerer's dark magics.

In the dark alleys of the Little Kingdom, Yan Lo is served by the Gokudo, a cult of thugs who believe they serve the mysterious Wei Lu, one of Yan Lo's false identities. Membership in the Gokudo is by invitation only, for all of them are the descendants of those who swore fealty to Yan Lo many centuries earlier. Upon reinforcing this bond with their own oaths, these unfortunate men and women become utterly subservient to the immortal sorcerer's wishes, both in this life and the next.

With the assistance of these enslaved servants, Yan Lo was able to help the Ten Thunders bring an end to the rule of Governor-General Herbert Kitchener. In exchange for his service, the Oyabun of the Ten Thunders told Yan Lo of the beast that had cursed him: the oni known as Lingxuzi. Yan Lo's own investigations confirmed the Oyabun's story, and now, the undying sorcerer seeks to find this oni in order to learn more of his past... and to punish it for the centuries of torment it had inflicted upon him.

Wyrd Games - Monday Preview

Another Wyrd Games Malifaux preview for Monday...
--------------------

Hey Wyrdos!  The first Monday of September is upon us, as well as a preview of a new Neverborn model!  The Adze is a model from the newest book, Broken Promises.  Let's learn a little more about where these monsters come from!
When a Will o’ the Wisp has fed upon enough blood, it matures into an Adze. Traditionally, this took decades, as the Gremlins and other swampfiends that the Wisps fed upon provided it with little nourishment. Something about human blood, however, triggers a greatly accelerated growth process in the Wisps.
