A Piece Of Cloth

Photo courtesy Gleaners Inc - that's my dress on the left

Tonight was the opening night of A Piece Of Cloth at Gleaners Inc

Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the opening, but thank goodness I was thinking ahead, and had all of my pieces completed before that middle of the night phone call came through.

I didn't get a chance to photograph my dress, so I've borrowed one of Liz's lovely photos (above).

From the very beginning, I wanted to take my piece of cloth, use it as inspiration, design my own fabric, and make a dress for the exhibition.

This was my original mocked up design inspiration for the finished dress.

I couldn't stop at one design.... so I included them all in some cards

To finish it off, I also designed a one-off cushion featuring some of my designs.

I can't wait to actually get over to Brunswick to see it...

A Pop-Up Shop and a B-Fabulous Wedding!

The Pop-Up Shop is all set up and ready to go for today

If you can't make it in to Olive Grove today, Anna will also have the studio open on Sunday from 10AM-4PM

The zineFan goodies are all ready and waiting too!

Unfortunately I won't be at the Pop-Up Shop in person as I'll be at the B-Fabulous Wedding.

I went down the totally handmade route for the pressie and I cannot wait to show it off (I really should let the Bride and Groom see it first though)...

But, I am spilling the beans on the personalised card that I designed for them.

Keep an eye out on Instagram (@curlypops) for Wedding day pics!

Do the Bot Dance

I completely forgot to include a photo of Nico's Bot Dance Birthday Card in yesterdays post.

It's last weeks drawing in technicolour...

All the kiddies had a wonderful time at the party.

There was a Toy Story theme (hence the t-shirts)...

.....and a mighty big stick for the pinata

The littlies weren't having much success in splitting it open.

Hmmm... blankie - check, dummy - check,..... mighty big stick?

It took a while, but they finally managed to break it open and scatter the spoils everywhere.

I think Noah liked the chupa chups the best!

Yes I know it's only Blogtober but......

I told you already that I'm trying to be super-organised this year..... so I've designed some christmas cards, just in time for errrrrr Christmas! You may have caught a sneaky peek of the reindeer yesterday.

Pop into The CurlyPops Shop to snap some up, or just visit me at any of my upcoming markets, where you'll also find colour ranges that are not available online.

I promised a Blogtoberfest Giveaway today and I'm sticking with the card theme. Just leave me a comment and I'll draw a lucky winner this Friday night (October 15th) at 8PM AEDST. The winner will get to select their five favourite card designs/colours.

Good Luck!

The Art of Display

I've been thinking a lot about market displays lately. There's a real art to getting your stall looking just right.

I must admit that I'm really not very good at it at all. I chop and change for every single different market..... always tweaking, and hoping for the best.

I've picked up a few new/oppy items lately to help with my display, including this picture frame. I want to be able to display some of the illustrations from my greeting cards, while also demonstrating that the cards can be framed to create a piece of artwork.

Now I just need to work out how I'm going to make it sit up on my table.....

The Psychedelic Snail in Technicolour Delight

gif animator online

I suddenly had a feeling of deja vu lastnight, when I remembered that I'd created a snail many moons ago.

After feeling a little naked yesterday.... Mr (or is that Ms - just how do you sex a snail?) Snail now exists in a psychedelic technicolour dream .

I missed animation Friday last week, so this is my belated contribution (snails are very slow after all).

*Yes, Snail greeting cards are on their way - I just couldn't resist printing them.

The Owl and The Dragster

Are Owls still on trend? Penny was asking that question yesterday.

I'm hoping that they are, as this is my latest drawing that I've turned into a greeting card (and will soon turn into a fabric).

I also drew a Dragster this week...... I decided to give it a coloured background before colouring it in, and it ended up that I really liked the effect of leaving the dragster white. Design by accident!

These are also available as greeting cards at the moment, and will become fabrics very soon.

My latest lot of test swatches from Spoonflower have been shipped, so fingers crossed that they all work out so I can place a real order!

Pretty Flamingo

I'm on the home stretch of the market preparations..... it's amazing what you can get done in a couple of days at short notice!

My brand new cards are all printed and  packed and ready to go.

Come along and visit me at the Buninyong Makers Market tomorrow from 10AM - 2 PM to check them out in person.

Just in case you can't make it tomorrow, I've popped these three designs into The CurlyPops Shop!

Printed Card

So here's a little show and tell of my first creations using the printed fabrics from my original drawings.

I went in search of card stock in my local suburb on the weekend.

The only thing that I could find was the local scrapbooking shop.....

.....which had this not so nice quality card stock.

Have you ever walked into a scrapbooking shop before? Well golly gee, I hadn't! I suppose it's just like stepping foot into a place like Amitie... only for lovers of paper.

The thing that I don't really understand about scrapbooking (and I don't want to offend any scrapbookers), but there's quite a lot of things already pre-prepared. Fifty percent of the shop must have been dedicated to things that just peel and stick (and those things are expensive)!. Does that take away from the creativity?

Back onto the topic at hand - if anyone has some tips on where to find really nice high quality pre-prepared card stock, I would love to know.... in the meantime, I've been challenged to create something with that fabric Medicare Tax statement!

Carded

I'd almost forgotten about these quirky little cards....

I found them at the oppy a few weeks ago when I whisked away Nikki's wee girl, to go on a little treasure hunting mission.

Can anyone tell me what game the animal cards are used for? They're in multiples of four of each type of card, and each card has a letter and a number. They weren't in their original packaging.

I also found this Old Maid card set.... which is so totally politically incorrect. I'm guessing from the illustrations and the font, that it's early 1970's (must be after the moon landing as it includes Moonwalker Wally).

I'm off to enjoy the lovely sunshine.... have a happy Sunday!

Love Fridays ...... love handmade shopping

I saw this beautiful Mellimoomoo Storybook Journal on the Handmade Help blog last week, so of course I just had to snap it up quickly. After all, the proceeds were all for a good cause!

I'm saving this to give to a friends little boy for his second birthday next month, with a packet of crayons or coloured pencils, so that he can scribble away to his hearts delight.

The ever so lovely Megan also sent me this beautiful bright floral teatowel. I'm having visions already, of a gorgeous tea towel apron and some cupcake baking!

Megan also included this stunning card which was made by her friend Kelly, who is another Byron Bay local. Kelly doesn't have a blog but she does have a website here with her contact details. If you're ever around the area, she has a stall at the Byron Bay and the Bangalow markets. The colours are just magnificent.....

38 degrees celsius forecasted for today.... moving van arrives at 8.00 AM - ugh what a day to move house!

My Creative Space

Not much creativity in my space this week. This is the remnants of the baby card that I managed to whip up for my girlfriend who had a little girl named Cate last Wednesday. She was two weeks earlier than expected, but luckily, I already had some handmade baby girl pressies pre-prepared in the stash for just such an occassion.

I gave her a cute little flannel buggy wrap and some sweet little bibs in girlie prints. Once I'm settled, I'm going to attempt a patchwork floor rug. Does anyone have any tips for making these? I'm thinking of doing a cotton patchwork top, maybe a couple of polar fleece layers in the middle, but then I'm not quite sure whether I should just use cotton for the bottom layer. I just need to keep in mind that it must be really easy to wash and dry.

For lots more creativity, visit Kirsty and play along...
