Scrappy Skippings

Hello everyone and welcome to this month's blog hop, aka SpiegelMom's Skippings!   Today is extra special because SpiegelMom Scraps is not only revealing the fabulous new sequin mixes for this quarter, but she's also welcoming this month's Guest Designer, Khristina Sorge.  (I follow her wonderful layouts on Facebook and Instagram and I suspect we are in for some crackers!) We are super excited to have her designing with us this month so watch for her first blog post next week! For today's blog hop you should have arrived here from Katty .  Fabulous as always!  For today's project I had slight trouble... my new sequins are somewhere between here and America - probably sat in Customs.  But not wanting to miss out I have a layout and process video using Spring Blooms Sequin Mix which is still available in the SpiegelMom shop. I've used my like for ever kit and added in a length of lace from Crafty Ribbons, Spring Blooms, a doily ...

Explodes in to Giggles

Today I'm sharing a fun layout I made using the contents of my counterfeit kit What's going on Vivienne? (Yes, we are ignoring the brown ink smudge on the far left of the page.  Grr!!) I used this forge /experiment as my base... which is off cuts thrown on to a patch of wet matte gel, and then squirted with iridescent mist. And I let the journalling cascade down the page, following the mist drips... I'm not a great journaller.  I've done courses and tried different things, but I just don't think I'll ever be one whose words flow.  It will always be hard for me.  This piece of journalling though, it's perfect to me.  It says exactly what was happening.  I hope I never forget the sound of his laughter. I used pretty much all the kit leftovers in my layering.  I tried for a two layout kit and I got it pretty much spot on.  (This is the second layout I made but I'm sharing it first, just to confuse things!)  Of course ...

I {heart} Butterflies

Here is a sweet little wreath I made using some 3mm ribbon and the butterfly nature ribbon. I picked up a plain metal wreath from a market in Henley.  I gave it a rough and light coat of gesso and then spritzed it with some mists. I generously applied matte medium to the back of the butterfly ribbon and allowed it to dry.  This stiffens the ribbon and stops the edges from fraying enabling you to cut out shapes from ribbon.   I attached my butterfly with glue gel. Having the colour of the butterfly on one side and nothing on the other didn't look quite right so I added a few tufts of red to the other side of the wreath to balance it out. I have used; nature ribbon - butterflies 3mm satin in off white and lilac mist 3mm grosgrain Thanks for stopping by

AJP-ing!

I'm sharing an art journal page with Crafty Ribbons Inspirations today... I do more art journalling than I share, but this page is OK for sharing. There are oodles of layers.  The page started out red, then I added black.  It looked like a murder scene so I gessoed over the top.  Then came black acrylic, pearl medium, thick layers of white acrylic, lots of shades of blue and green spray inks, sea salt, more ink for drips, scribbling in a roller-ball pen, inked tissue paper, various ribbon and lace. The sea salt absorbs some of the wet ink and leaves pit like marks.  Love it but you have to be patient and let the ink dry thoroughly before you brush the salt off. Here is a focus on the tissue and ribbon... I was over thinking my colours at the beginning with the whole red and black fiasco.  From that came the words for the page 'let go and create colour'  You can see snippets of 3mm in both satin and grosgrain , saddlestitch , satin , sea...

Crafty Ribbons Challenge - AG With Ribbon

So my DT piece for todays Crafty Ribbons challenge is a layout.  I was looking at all sorts of sketches and mood boards and in the end I followed Scrap Around The World 's mood board. I took my inspiration form the metallic gold triangles on the pink pots in the bottom right corner.  I took my colours from the top left corner - gold, deep pink, dark teal, egg yolk - and I also used the chevron pattern.  I tried to get an ombre effect with the misting in the background but it wasn't terribly successful.  (I like it but it is not obviously ombre.)   I cut my fibre ribbon in to chevron/zigzags.  I also used some teal stained book pages. Lots of gold misting behind. I pulled out some triangular buttons ( or these! ), covered them with tombow multi glue and waited until it had turned sticky.  Then I covered them with gold leaf. I also covered the top of my foam letters with gold leaf.  I left the sides black which highl...
