Throwback | hello CAKE

Still going with the unshared layouts found in my drafts folder.  2018 me is such a bad blogger! I think pretty much all of the supplies are from Cocoa Vanilla Studio. The blue looks like Dazzlerz from Shimmerz.  I no longer have any as it takes eons to dry... but it does look good! Thanks for stopping by!

Round Up | August Layouts

Epic picture post coming up!  Here are all the layouts I made in August...  Brusho, sewing and sequins for Lottie Loves Paper.  Mixed media for Lottie Loves Paper.  SickerKitten Pretty Stitches.  StickerKitten Seaside Dreams.  Using Simon Says Stamp Panda die.  Shimelle's Field Trip collection for Lottie Loves Paper.  Layout for Paige Evans Facebook challenge.  Dippy Dippy Dippy. Layout with Lottie Love's Paper 'Think Happy' kit.

Hot Cross Buns

I ADORE this layout!  I think it is my most favourite of all time... You can watch it evolve from the original idea of stamping my own patterned paper here: I've used a combination of hand and machine sewing to create a stave and musical notes. The fussy cut hot cross buns are from a new stamp set from Skull and Cross Buns. I've kept the colour palette simple - just black, greys, white and mint.  I have used about 8 shades of grey though so there is a lot of interest to the sewing and stamping. And I snuck in some more stamping with this date label . Thanks for stopping by!

Stash Busting

I'm guest designing for Stashbusting this month and have these two layouts to share... The theme to bust this month is sequins.  Hmm... I wonder why they chose me as guest designer?  Hahaha! Supplies for this layout are from my Quirky Custom Card kit along with sequins and Shimmerz from SpiegelMom's.  The second layout uses an entire pack of Doodlebug sequins that I have had in my stash for 5+ years.  It's not a difficult technique by any means, it just takes time to stick each sequin down individually. I've also pulled out my favourite sewing technique.  Sew and skip, let's call it that.  Sew the first stitch in the first colour (lime in this case) and then skip ahead for the next stitch.  I had five thread colours so skipped four holes before the next lime stitch.  Once you've finished the entire row you then go back with your second colour, then the third etc.  The paper layers I've used are snippets of previous painty

Jillibean Soup - Guest Designing I

I shared last year that I was fortunate enough to be among Jillibean Soup's guest designers.  Now, the time has finally come... I was sent Garden Harvest to create with alongside All About Dots and All About Plaid 6x8 paper pads. I added in some cut files from Pretty My Page for these two layouts. Plenty of fussy cutting too.   I left some of the blue background on the flowers and leaves.  I love the extra pop of colour it adds.  It also helps them to stand out from the white background. I trimmed up some of the washi stickers and added them to the background. Here's the process video:  And here is another... This one is all about the rainbow coloured epehemera/stickers/washi goodness. With a little messy mixed media in the background... Again, the cut file is from Pretty My Page. There is plenty more to share.  If you can't wait pop over to the Jillibean blog (and maybe leave me a comment?) but I will be back here with mor

Pretty My Page

The lovely Lisa-Jane at Pretty My Page has designed this open font... I decided it was perfect to create a layout about my word of the year (for last year!) I set up my cameo mat with strips of coloured paper and a dark grey paper.  I cut the complete alpha on the grey and just the outline on the colourred paper. And then glued them together. The spacing took a bit of working out.  I used some torn wahi tape on the background as guidelines.  It's not obvious but I like to layer up subtle details. I love how it looked... but hadn't included the word patince anywhere.  D'oh! I solved this by using an acetate overlay and using the alpha cutfile to poke sewing holes.  I did think halfway through about the irony of the situation... scraping about patience whilst huffing and sighing about hand sewing! Really pleased with the finished result though.  I will make sure to get to this years word before next year! You can find the font

Advent Stocking

This creation is courtesy of my Mum - I had too many ideas to make so she stepped in, her hand sewing is much better than mine!! This advent countdown stocking started life as a pillowcase.  Crafty Ribbons Gingerbread number ribbon is hand sewn to the front and a glass candy cane marker can be moved along each date as you countdown to Christmas. As it is a pillowcase you can pop 24 small wrapped gifts inside, one to be pulled at random each day.  I love this idea as you are not constrained by the size of the pocket - it's hard to find 24 goodies that are so small! It can also be used as a stocking on Christmas Eve.  As it is personalised, Father Christmas will know whose it is and filled with the appropriate goodies or lumps of coal!! If you fancy whipping one up you can grab the ribbons from here and a pillowcase from either the airing cupboard or your local cheapy shop!  Have fun!

Scraplift Swap!

I've been missing my scrappy mojo since like for ever closed.  I was messing around on Facebook when a post from Claire popped up - did anyone want to swap layouts to scraplift?  Perfect, I thought, I can scrap one of her layouts to get me going again... Here are the results: My original and Claire's take Claire's original and my take And here it is in a little more detail... I used a background stamp from Simon Says Stamp and third, fourth and fifth generation stamping.  I journalled a lot underneath the vellum heart, just writing over the top of the previous layer so none of it is legible. The sequins are SpiegelMom Scraps Build A Snowman and the stars are Cocoa Vanilla Studio.  I was beginning to wonder if I had upset Claire as I was sewing.  I don't like hand sewing on layouts and I reinforced to myself why - I needled myself.  I'm used to sticking a needle in my finger but this time I got my boob!!! And although I am not the world
