Zip on over to Want2Scrap for a zipper flower tutorial!

**Looking for my Just Us Girls post?  Please click {HERE}**

Hello friends!  I hope you can zip on over to the Want2Scrap today and check out an simple tutorial on how to make your own flowers out of zippers!   I have been noticing these fab flowers all over the place and I had to make one myself.
Click {HERE} to head on over to Want2Scrap.

I used mine on a fashion oriented card because I do so love the trend of vintage seamstress items and the dress form trend that has been all over lately. I was able to tuck in bits of vintage goodies in the pocket inspired by the challenge over at City Crafter Challenge blog.

This pocket would be great with a fabric store gift card tucked inside too!

Check out the bits of Want2Scrap bling adorning my zipper flower and also, my handmade original button card.

The button card was designed in Word, printed, and then I added the glamour girl stamp in the center from Clearly Vintage. Isn't she fabulous dah-ling?!

Ready to make your own zipper flower?  Zip on over to the Want2Scrap blog for all the details!  Happy flower making...

Gray is the new black challenge!

So true so true!  Gray IS the new black.  I love wearing gray, especially of the charcoal gray variety.  Totally had to jump in on the Gray is the new Black challenge going on at Moxie Fab world!  It's been a loooooong time since I got to play over there, feels good to be back!

I kept gray the center of my attention with pleated gray ribbon "grass", gray polka dotted DP from October Afternoon for the "Stem" and vintage book print for the die cut daisy layers.  A gray button from my stash topped with a single Want2Scrap yellow bling  is meant to tie the flower to the sunny yellow October Afternoon DP that I matted this card to.

This clean and simple card is destined for a dear person in my life who has a birthday coming up!  She's so totally "Gray is the new Black" that I can't wait to give her this card.  Thanks Moxie Fab for the inspiration!  and thank you for dropping by!

PS: be sure to check out the Want2Scrap post below...big news you don't want to miss....a match made in heaven: Want2Scrap bling and Nestabilities and a great giveaway!!  I love CHA time of year.  The papercraft world is just jumpin' with new products and that makes me *grin*

Just Us Girls #67 color challenge....first signs of spring

Happy saturday! Time for some color fun with Just Us Girls.  This week's gorgeous color pallette was chosen by our guest designer, Carla Suto, and is inspired by the pretty paper line by Graphic 45 called Once Upon a Springtime.  It's just so spring to me with flowers, fairies and butterflies!

Aqua, coral and green...*sigh* so pretty together!  Great choice Carla!

I made this card all about the bling and the floral. Want 2 Scrap pearls and bling were great accents to my handmade fabric flowers made from a scrap of material hanging around in my fabric stash.

Stardust stickles added a sweet dew-like accent to flowers, leaves and the DP.

I hope you can join us for this color challenge this week!  Have a great one and thanks for coming by.

Just Us Girls #63.....{let it snow}

Oh my sparkle and shine, have we got a challenge for you!?  The Just Us Girls gang has a challenge for you this week that will tempt you to pour it on and then wear you glitter proudly after your project is complete!  :)  Check out the Just Us Girls post for a link to the Sparkley Stained Glass Technique.
Brrrrrrrrr!  I think there is a frost in the air!  I let the gals over at City Crafters inspire me with their Let it Snow challenge this week and I went with a very blue and silver pallette to show off the gorgeous lines of the snowflake stamp from JustRite stamps
Using this technique, the glitter stays trapped behind the transparency but still shines mightily.  I used a single silver bling from Want to Scrap to give the snowflake some 3-D on the front side. A vintage sheet music pinwheel makes a fun background for the glittery snowflake.
These wavy and beglittered vines are from a holiday foliage pick from my local Michaels.  Aren't they lovely?

Speaking of lovely, be sure and check out all of the JUGs girls and also our fabulous guest designer for December, Elise Durenberger!

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you can make time to try this cool technique this week!

Just Us Girls #62 sketch...{Merry Christmas}

Yay!  It's sketch challenge time with Just Us Girls!  The talented Alicia has worked up a FUN sketch this week I am sure will inspire you like it did me!

Ca-ute huh?  I love the festive banner on this one!
I went wintery with a fun K&Co paper and chipboard embellies set from my local Joann's.  I punched snowflakes with a lovely lacey Martha Stewert snowflake punch, inked with Distress Tea Dye ink and adorned them with gorgeous Want 2 Scrap green pearl bling!  Oh YUM!  Glittery holiday picks and a hand stained bow of seam binding top off this card.
Aren't these sweet birds just darling?  I hardly even noticed them until I leaned in close to spy a good place to add a little wintery stickles.  Kinda looks like a mama with her two baby birds!  I wonder why I would think that?  ;)

So, are you ready to P-L-A-Y???  Be sure and check out all the details at Just Us Girls and don't forget to check out our December guest designer, the wonderful, the fabulous, the uber talented slinger of blogland "yeeeeee-haws!"...my dear friend, Elise Durenberger of Mamacow Creations!  So excited to be joining forces with her this month!  To that I say, well, what else?  YEEEEEE-HAW!

We have joined forces to bring you an amazing hop filled with creative goodness to inspire you for 12 full days!!! We are so excited to bring you such wonderful inspiration leading you into the holiday season.  To start from the beginning of the hop, please visit the Passionately Artistic blog for all the details . . . . otherwise you have come to the next stop in the 12 days of Christmas hop.

Be sure and check out the Want 2 Scrap blog link above to see all of the hop details...I hear prizes will be awarded to lucky commentors so you want to fire up those commenting fingers and make sure to stop at all the hop blogs.

Speaking of prizes, I personally will be giving away some Want 2 Scrap goodies plus some gorgeous vintage lace here on my blog-o to my sweet commentors on this post!  (You don't have to follow my blog but I won't stop ya! ;) )

OK, ready to hop?  All of the designers were asked to share a family tradition and a project and I am happy to share my photo ornament tradition.  Each year since having children 9 years ago, I have made some sort of photo ornament for our tree and for close family members.  This is the most fun collection to pull out year after year for our tree!

This year I was inspired to make a canvas photo frame/curio after taking a class with the talented Mr. Tim Holtz.  This uses a small ATC size artist canvas which I was able to find locally at Beverly's crafts.

I wanted to go with a wintery angel (see the tinsel halos on the girls?) theme this year.  I kept the colors limited to white, silver and blue.  I used tinsel and braid trim, Martha Stewert clear micro glitter, seam binding, silver jewelry makers thread, tiny eye screws and BLING from Want 2 Scrap to make my ornament.  Well what to my wondering eyes do appear?  No, not 8 tiny reindeer, but the lack of blue bling in my Want 2 Scrap box!  Ack!  Brilliant planning huh? But, BUT, I do always make sure I have plenty of clear bling that I can custom color on hand.  Enter clear bling and a sharpie marker to complete my ornament!  Simple!

I hope you have fun hopping around today on the blog hop.  I sure do appreciate you stopping by my blog.  If you'd like to see the steps I used to cover my canvas frame and photo tutorial follows...

The canvas curio/frame tutorial
The first step illuminated by the brilliant Tim Holtz was to FLIP your canvas over!  Ah hah!  What a moment!  I chose to give the inside edge of my frame a quick coat of white acrylic paint.  You can work quick here since any messy painting will be covered later.

You know me and my love affair with vintage sheet music these days ;)  I had a sheet waiting for the frame.  I applied a generous but even coat of mod podge to the top of the frame edge with a paint brush.

Then turn it face down onto a section of the music paper.
After it was dry enough to not slip around on the paper, I applied Tim's tissue tape to the edge of the mini canvas.  Tim whispered a little info at the class I recently attended....he said this holiday version of the tape is considered "one and done" meaning once the stock is out this year, this tape is GONE *gasp*...so of course I had to get and use some!

Tissue tape has a light tack to it so you may want to put mod podge under the tissue tape as well.  Especially when you want to fold over the excess tightly.  Once your tissue tape is tightly adhered, trim a piece of music paper to cover the back...and then, you got it, more mod podge!

Time to trim the window out of the canvas back errr I mean "front" ;)

I ran my finger along the edge to define where I should cut.  I performed the trim step while the mod podge was still slightly wet so any ragged edge cuts could be smoothed in right away.  If you need to trim later when the glue is dry, just add a little more mod podge and smooth away any raggedies (yes, "raggedies" is a technical term LOL)

We did it!  Yes!  I canvas back turned curio/picture frame!  The embellishing is left up to all of your capable hands now!  Here's a little piece of my original Tim project that inspired me to use this technique for my annual photo ornament this year...

uh huh, yeah, that's what I'm talking about!  Props to Tim and his team for MAKING the bingo piece for everyone in the class (something about the magic of the Ranger Melting Pot!) and finding real vintage lightbulbs and micah snow!

OK artistic hoppers, go make something and share it with the world :)...happy holidays to you all!
