How to make a candy gram card....perfect for Dad!

Hey there!  I have a fun post for Father's Day...happy Father's Day to all the daddies out there!  Today with the help of Sharpies Fine tip markers, a poster board, my computer and a bunch of sweet treats, my girls and I have a fun candy-gram card to celebrate Father's Day.

We picked up a variety of different candies and made up a message to incorporate the names of the candies within our card.  The card is made up of a blue poster board from the dollar store and we used computer generated text with details hand drawn with Sharpies.  I attached the candies using my craft adhesive from Scotch ATG.  This project was super fun and would be great for graduations, valentines, birthday parties, etc.  How cool would this candy-gram be with a gift card to the local movie theater attached or a DVD for the ultimate at home movie night?

We had a lot of giggles coming up with this gift including choosing a candy to represent the girls....we opted for "sour patch kids"!  "Sugar Babies" would have been cute too. Be sure to search "candy gram" on Pinterest and you will find all kinds of fun ideas on ways to use candy to create these cards.

I hope you had a fun weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Just Us Girls #121 valentine's themed template/3D...LoveBirdHouse...and announcement and the WINNER!

Hello love birds!  February is looming which brings the pink and red out in me....this week the Just Us Girls gang is challenging you to make a 3D/template project with a valentine's theme.

Recently on a room clean up with my daughter's we came upon a wood birdhouse that she was done with.  I asked {ok, begged a little} could I PLEASE have it for valentine's day?  I have this idea of making holiday houses and when these cute alterable plain wood "birdhouses" come along in so many cute designs and for right around a dollar each at Michaels, only time and inspiration can hold me back!  In this case, I just recycled an old project of my daughter's!

I pumped up the roof with some gorgeous red and pink BUTTONS to serve as shingles and cute trims and papers to finish off the sides and back of the house!

Speaking of BUTTONS...I have an exciting announcement to share...I was invited to join the amazing crafters of the Buttons Galore and More Button Bevy design team!!!!  I am thrilled to be a part of the Bevy and I can't wait to share my button projects with you in the coming months!

A girl could go wild using red, pink, white and hearts ya know? And you know I couldn't resist red glitter glue to outline the heart-shaped door right?!

This LoveBirdHouse is right at home among the pink and red on our sideboard cabinet.

Now it's your turn!  Check out the inspiration from Just Us Girls:
Guest Designer for January...the talented Kylie Kueter!

and one last piece of info....the winner from my MME paper giveaway is
comment #22!

Card Quickies and some doily fun!

Hey friends!  A little while back I posted some quick mini gift cards  I made using Want2Scrap bling, Wilson Designs, Papertrey Ink and My Cute Stamps.  I love using these little cards for the many birthday parties my girls are lucky enough to attend and are often made *just before* the mad dash out of the house to their friend's birthday bash.

Many times I let the wrapping paper or gift bag dictate my color and theme choices making these cards even quicker than usual.  The cool guitar from Wilson Designs is a go to easy choice for boy gifts.

These adorable eye glasses and typewriter inspired sentiment are from the same set as the guitar.  You can find it here Let's Rock.  You KNOW I can't resist adding google eyes, right?!

.....and....for no reason at all other than seeing this on the internet (check out Charlotte's tutorial) and needing to just DO this to a couple of my doilies.....

doilies + food coloring + a wee bit of water =

Yum, YUM, yumminess!!!!  These will be coming to a craft project near you soon, I'm pretty sure I won't be able to resist using these for long!

Thanks for coming by!  I'll be back tomorrow with a new sketch challenge with Just Us Girls!

summer crafting 101...friendship bracelets

Remember these?

I remember spending many an afternoon with embroidery floss pinned to the leg of my jeans making friendship bracelets.  After finding this post by Elise Blaha, I had to relive a junior high pastime last night!  My quick bracelet is made from 4 strands of embroidery floss (about as quick and easy as they come), using an arms length of each color.

*sigh*  I think summer has officially begun for me now!

My first project is a quick and simple card to drop a note to someone to say "wish you were here" or perhaps to say thank you to the hostess for sharing their beach house vacation with you and your family.  I used the Want2Scrap™ Nestabling Petite Scalloped Circle Sm Gold Rhinestones to highlight the cute sand castle stamp from PSA Essentials.  The sand castle is from the super cute Anchor's Away set.  I also created the custom stamped background paper by stamping with one of the images from the Rosettas set.  It's a lovely and ornate set of stamps that is so versatile!  A bit of stickles glitter glue, twine and a vintage button was all it took to finish this card off.  Now, a second project to tickle your funny bone and to remind us to use every little thing in our stash...
They've got
their eyes
on you!

These darling little treasures from the sea, also part of the Anchor's Away set, were too cute to pass up while I was creating for this hop.  I also had a treasured bit of silver bling left on my much loved sheet of Nestabling™ Pennants Silver Rhinestones that I had been saving for a while.  I also added some 72 Count - Silver Rhinestones - Self Adhesive individual bling to the center area of the pennant.

I love a new bookmark just for fun!  Now I admit this one is living in my summer reading book because it makes me giggle but this would also be a great project for the children in your life.  But for now....

Merry Christmas....and a last minute gift wrap idea

Merry Christmas to all of my blog friends here in the states and around the world.  I truly wish a happy holiday season and joyous new year to all of you!  You all help to make my seasons bright!
OK, now it's wouldn't be Christmas Eve without some last minute crafting and wrapping now would it?  I thought I would share a quickie on my favorite gift wrapping adornment this year.  Pom poms!  There are cute little gadgets out there to make the perfect pom but when mama elf is wrapping late at night long after the local craft store closes, you make do with something a little less technical....yarn and chipboard scraps!

First step, use a scrap of chipboard or cardboard to make a wrapping stick..this one is about 11"x 1/2".  Cut a small slit in one end to anchor your tie sting like above.
Start wrapping your yarn around and around the wrap stick including the anchor string you did above.  No need to tie anythign to anything at this point.

Wrap and wrap until you have a nice volume of yarn around the wrap stick...the more volume, the more pom pom in the end.

When you are satisfied that you have enough yarn on the wrap stick, use the anchor string to tie a knot in the center of the yarn.  Tie it as tight as you can.

Flip the wrap stick over and cut done the center of the volume of yarn.
Before fluffing and trimming your pom pom, it will look like the photo above...tie string in the middle with two puffs of yarn on either side.  To fluff the pom pom shake it around, do a little happy dance and then give it a hair cut with scissors to trim any stragglers.

You can tie them onto gifts in lieu of a ribbon bow or add them to a tage with holiday picks like I did above.  FUN huh?  So fun I think our whole house has caught the pom pom fever...look what I found under the tree this morning.....

awwwwwwwwwe!  My little elf in training was busy yesterday!

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the final few days of 2010!  hugs, Dana

Winter crafts!

Hi!  It has been sooooo busy around here!  I know I am preaching to the crafty choir when I say I haven't had much "me crafty time" which really can twist a mama elf's candy cane if ya know wha I mean ;)  Today though, thanks to a special friend, my girls in I were invited to a holiday craft playdate!  Oh my sequins and felt!  This sure was fun!  I quick whipped up the candle topper yarn pom pom (my favorite package topper this christmas) and the jingle bell pencils in the picture above.  The pencils were in a package from the dollar store and I just strung a jingle bell from silver jewelry thread and fabric tped them to the tops of the pencils.  Very quick and so silly to write with!

Little hands hard at crafty work!  I l-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ve to see kids get their craft on!  We cut them loose with glue guns, craft supplies of all kinds and lots of empty boxes...mostly milk cartons.  This was SO fun that of course the mamas had to join in.

Shelby opted for a house that looked like santa complete with fluffy beard!

Our little village!  I loved my friend Stacey's house...she even added a landscaped yard to her design...and I was totally inspired to bejewel the felt snowflake centers on my roof like she did.

Thank you, Stacey, for inviting us over for a perfectly happy time with great friends.  I highly recommend milk carton holiday house crafting therapy to take the edge off of the "go go go" of the season for a while!
