Moments | Into Nature We Walk

D wears: T-shirt by Mini & Maximus / Shorts by Minti / Shoes by Hummel / Cap by Munsterkids.
M wears: Top by Bobo Choses / Skirt by Bonton / Shoes by molo.

The weekend brought more sunshine and on Sunday we decided to drive up to the Kokoda Track Memorial Walk. It is placed in a national park at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges and it is an excellent place to get closer to nature (and get some exercise too!) The soft grassy hills are perfect for a picnic and there are several hiking tracks for everybody's liking. For the serious hikers there is the 1000 Steps which is literally a steep hill with 1000 steps which continues with several tracks. We tried the nature trail which was a bit like stepping into a magical world! Deep lush forest and inviting tracks. The sounds of little creeks and an array of different bird life (we spotted cockatoos, kookaburras and rainbow parrots ) was enough to keep the kids walking further on the track and it was easy to get intrigued by the wonderful wild that lives here. We saw a massive ant which was even bigger than a bull ant, and several little lizards in the trees.

The kids collected gum tree leaves and put them in their hair/caps and instantly felt like nature natives! It is so nice to show the kids just how rich nature is, and what an amazing ecosystem that lives here.

When we came back to the start the kids were so pumped that we even tried the 1000 steps.. we got half way there and then decided it was time for an icy pole on the grassy hills..haha.. but we all decided that next time we would go all the way!

Moments | The Best Days

D wears: Hoodie by Talc / Newark jeans by I Dig Denim / Longsleeve by Mini & Maximus / Shoes by Puma / Beanie by Zoo York.

The best days are the ones where there is nothing or little on the agenda. For me I have realized its Tuesday and Friday. Not that we don't do anything on those days but it means there is enough time to do everything. Yesterday I had D with me all day and we decided to grab some sandwiches to go and go down to the ocean and watch the boats. After a quick stop to pick up some egg sandwiches, we rolled down on the scooters and it wasn't long until we saw the calm water in the bay and the many sailboats.

Off came the shoes and toes were poked into the cold sand. After some running and jumping around (which you always have to do when you are 5) we settled down on a sand dune and ate our sandwiches. This is the best time...when you are 100% in the moment and have time to answer all the questions and do things like spotting things and animals in the clouds. We ate our sandwiches and giggled at the wonky duck in the cloud and marveled at how noisy a little fishing boat engine could be.

The time always goes so quickly down here and soon it was time to head for home and pick up big sister from school. But not before we had a slow walk home, where there was enough time to stop and talk and look through little holes in the wall that was like a little window to the sea.

Moments | 2 Wheel Wonder

D wears: Jacket by Mini and Maximus / Ramones pants by Munsterkids / Shoes by Vans.

Most of the time we try and leave the car at home and use either two or four wheels instead - bike, scooter or skateboard. We are lucky that most of the essential shops/stores are very close to where we live so its a good way of getting some exercise into the day. D loves his new scooter so its not hard to get him on it, even on a very windy day like this was. I love how we seem to have more time for little talks on walks like this. When you are 5 you seem to have a lot on your mind and its nice to have some time and just answer all those questions as well.

I think even parents learn a lot during this time..haha. I have had to google some of the answers to the questions so now I even know the distance to the moon from the earth (384403 km) and why is it called the milky way? (Long ago, the Romans named the galaxy “via lactea,” which translates to “road of milk.” The Romans named it via lactea precisely because it looks like a milky patch of sky above the Earth at night.) Yep we have a very space interested boy. Hope everybody has had a lovely weekend so far.

Moments | Winter Blues

D wears: Hoodie by Mini & Maximus / Vest by Zara Kids / Pants by Mini & Maximus / Shoes by Converse.

We've got the winter blues, but not of the sad kind. More of the cold kind. I know the chill here is nowhere near the Northern European one, but it has been colder than normal this past week and some suburbs have even has a bit of snow! During the break we also did a quick trip to Canberra and guess if I was surprised when I looked down from the plane and saw snow covered mountains, not exactly what you expect in Australia. There is plenty of snow here that is for sure.

But for now we are find with some thick jackets or vests on our daily scooter trips. And let me tell you, there have been lots of those lately with D getting a new birthday scooter. I thought it would take a few weeks for him to adjust to a two wheel scooter from having a three wheel one, but as usual he surprises me and gets the swing of it really quickly.

Here are a few photos from a quick trip to a warm cafe and the chance to warm up before picking up big sister at school. Hope you are all managing to stay warm out there, (or cool if you are in Europe ;)
