MOMENTS | Big City Life

SHOP OUTFITS // M wears: art collage tee by Bobo Choses / Skirt by Bobo Choses / Long socks by Bobo Choses / Cat bag by molo / Shoes by Minnetonka. D wears: Tee by Bobo Choses / 3/4 pants by Bobo Choses / Sneakers by Vans.

A trip to the city and a chance to absorb some of its many sights, sounds and colours! We love to visit without any major plans or expectations. Just walk around and see whatever is on offer which generally is a lot! The NGV at Federation square is a great place to visit for a chance to get exposed to some great art and interesting artists.

Level 3 has a great little kids section where there is always something fun happening that the kids and their parents can partake in. This day it was pottery making and it was fun sitting down and making our own little pots that we later could take home. At the same level there was also a design exhibition which the kids loved, so many shapes and colours to look at (and I have to admit, the no touching policy was extra hard in this section! ) Entry to this gallery is free of charge so it is a place that is well worth a visit whether you have kids or not.

After we had been lost in art for a few hours we walked up through the famous street art alley Hosier Lane and then deep into the bustling city for a lunch break at the QV building. A chance to sit down in the indoor/outdoor area relax, eat and let all the impressions from the day sink in.

PLAY | Toca Paper Creatures

We have been long time fans of Swedish company Toca Boca who makes great apps for kids on multiple platforms. Lately they have added some creative toys to their shop and I'd like to show you their new collaboration with Argentinian artist CHU. I absolutely love toys that promotes imagination and creativity and this little set does both!

Toca Paper Creatures
- a puzzle of colorful pieces that can be combined in thousands of different ways to make a completely unique little creature - is the result of the collaboration together with Argentinian street artist, CHU. Currently living in Buenos Aires, CHU is known for his work in art, illustration, graphic design and animation, among others. As the co-founder of the DOMA Collective, a multidisciplinary art and design collective, CHU played a key role in bringing street art to Buenos Aires

To get an idea of how the collaboration worked check out this great little artist visit with CHU and his inspiring work in the city landscape.

Moments | Let's Draw!

We had a few rainy days during the school holidays and on one particular one we decided to head for the city and explore the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) and their kids program Pastello - Draw Act. As part of the NGV commitment to design and children’s programming, Italian design duo Erika Zorzi and Matteo Sangalli of Mathery Studio have designed a new immersive kids space that broadens our appreciation of the simple act of drawing.

Pastello – Draw Act re-imagines traditional drawing tools and processes. Children are invited to use their bodies to draw with their heads, feet and of course hands using crayon spheres and other unusual tools. We love taking the kids to the art gallery and a few friends of ours had already visited the kids space and recommended a visit. It was fun seeing the kids exploring new ways of drawing, and unconventional ways of doing so as well. D was puzzled to say the least when he put on a crayon helmet and started drawing with his head. There were also crayon foot wear that you could put on your shoes and draw on the wall.

Best was all the massive crayons in all different shapes and sizes that all were easy to explore and draw with. It was easy to feel like a big kid yourself and go wild with the paper and crayon.

After a few hours of drawing and exploring the gallery everybody was exhausted from the input and after a lunch in the city we finally headed towards the train station and back home, tired but full of new impressions and experiences.

Good thing about school holiday is that you can wander. The other day we decided to go back to our old stomping grounds, Prahran. The atmosphere is amazing there and there are so many funny and quirky stores to look in. The kids love to go in and out of stores, exploring and with a few extra hands in the form of grandparents even mum here got to visit some favourite stores like Magnation, American Apparel, Trigger Bros and numerous stores on Greville st. I got to stock up on some new magazines and found some new artwork for the house. Even just going into a 2 dollar shop and try out silly hats turned out to be a big hit with the kids.

When everybody's legs get tired, there are heaps of cosy cafes to visit and warm up in. We had to visit grandma's favourite chocolate hang out, San Churro and have some hot chocolate (although the kids went for ice-cream, who cares if its winter!) After a few hours it was nice to head back for home and chat about all the fun stuff we saw that day and digest all the impressions of a day in the urban jungle.

Moments | Urban Love

M wears: Top by Bobo Choses / Skirt by Molo / Leggings by FREE / Sandals by Pom D'Api. D wears: Tee by Heart & Guts / Pants by Molo / Shoes by Natives.

Some urban moments from the weekend.  A trip to the comic shop (M has developed a big love for comic books ) Comics 'R' Us was on the agenda. She bought 3 new comics, 2 Adventure Time comics and 1 My Little Pony comic, that she of course had to start reading as soon as we sat down. After our feet got tired after window watching and simply taking in the urban views, we stopped at Hooked for some much needed lunch. We all munched on seafood and I got to try a beer with a confusing name.

D had been in his money box to buy some lollies on the way home, so it was very important to count just exactly how much money he had. I think his appetite was a bit bigger than his wallet because he of course thought he could pretty much buy the whole lolly shop, but came out with a single chocolate bar and was still happy (thankfully). There is something magical with just window watching, the kids looked at everything, taking in the different people and the sights and sounds. We saw a hairdresser shop with skateboards hung up all over the walls and the hairdressers had colourful short hair. D decided he wanted his hair cut there the next time (realising he might need one after seeing these photos).

There are always street art to look at here, next to a little cafe called Tyranny of Distance - Cafe and Lubritorium (I know!! amazing coffee to boot!) we found a little alley called Artist Lane which had artworks all over the walls. Kids had fun checking it out and it was sort of behind the hustle and bustle so we were pretty much alone checking it out. Love these forms of outdoor "galleries" and it was a great ending to our little urban weekend.
