Tropical Oasis | Scotch Shrunk

White, soft sand dunes for as long as your eyes can see. And there... in the distance, camels slowly moving like ships in the dessert ocean. It was the perfect spot to showcase the wonderful colours of this summer season from Scotch Shrunk. The tropical theme is saturated with colour and plant themes mixed with camo and animal patterns. Like the girl collection Scotch R'belle you can mix and match easily with the different garments and colours and there is no fear of going wrong with mixing patterns, they simply all work with each other.

I love how this collection is a tribute to Rio, summer, fun and sun! The wonderful swing tags always seem to have a little surprise and my son loved the little green metal fish that came with the shorts, he instantly tied it to his shorts and there it has stayed ever since.

See the full Scotch Shrunk summer collection here and find the featured outfit below.

Tropical Fever | Scotch R'belle

Back from holiday with the suitcase and heads full of holiday memories. One absolutely magical day was when we had a chance to visit the vast sand dunes in Newcastle. Endless hills of white, pristine sand which was so soft that it squeaked when you stepped on it. It was the perfect backdrop to shoot some absolutely amazing clothes by Scotch R'belle. If you are looking for clothes for your girl that is that perfect mix of cool and cute, then look no further.

Packed with wonderful details such as double layers, highly detailed buttons and little hidden printed messages in fun places it takes fashion into the art territory. Most garments are made to fit several outfits in the collection and it is a joy to mix and match this label. The tropical theme is wonderful and the colour choices are perfect for this summer! The cropped tee is detachable and underneath you have a lovely singlet, held together with a wonderful detailed copper button. The skirt is also double layered and has a gorgeous printed under layer which reminds me of aboriginal art and ties perfectly together with the rows of colour fringes in the waistline.

From Sweden with Love

A package from Sweden arrived yesterday at the doorstep. It was from Minifellow and in it was the softest blanket we have ever felt. It was The Origami Monkey Throw from their junior collection. It is a high quality woven throw in a 100% cotton. It comes in several colours options like French light blue and Lemon meringue but we couldn't resist the Licorice version (how good are those names!?) The pattern (which reminds me of Kay Bojesen's classic wooden monkey toy) also comes in a pillow version.

It measures 72x105 CM and looks just as good in a kids room as in the living room (where it lives right now at our place).

For more info read my previous post on Minifellow right here, or visit their website for retailer information. For worldwide shipping, you can order the blankets through Oii.

Moments | The Big Bike Ride

M wears: Modern hero hoodie by Mini & Maximus // Scuba dog top by Mini & Maximus // Fringe shorts by Mini & Maximus // shoes by Hummel Kids.

Some photos from our big bike ride the other day. M and myself had talked about going for a longer bike trip for a while but somehow the day had been pushed ahead since there were so much other stuff to do during the school holiday. But finally the day arrived when we woke up to blue sky and sun and it was just the perfect sort of day for a longer bike ride. It was our first "real" bike ride together with no bike trailer and no bike with training wheel and so on. M has always gotten around on her scooter so the bike sort of got forgotten about so it was actually not too long ago she took her training wheels off, or she just sorted hopped on a friends bike with no training wheels and just started biking like she had done nothing else. So this was a good day to just go out and set her free on two wheels.

We biked down by the sea front, followed the little bike paths all the way to the kiosk were we had a ice cream / coffee break and just enjoyed some people watching. People here are still in the water and on the beach, enjoying a dip in the blue and a play in the sand. After our break we then proceeded to bike some more and found a great little hidden playground which we both had fun at. We had beautiful city views on our ride and it was one of those days were you really appreciated that you live so close by the seaside. The settings and scenery is always changing down here.

By the time we got home we had been out for over 4 hours! Such a good day which we gladly will do again very soon...

Where the Wild Things Go...

Now THIS is my kind of park for kids! Located in Blaxland Riverside Park, Sydney Australia and designed by JMD Design. The park is  20,500 square meter, and opened this summer. It is located at Jamieson and Homebush Streets, and operates under the Sydney Olympic Park Authority. JMD Design wanted to avoid the fenced-in, overly structure-based approach of many kids’ outdoor parks. They worked with, rather than against the earth forms of cones, cuts and terraces, established earlier at this site, and created a free-flowing, open play area with surprises and distinctive activity points.

Who wouldn't want to run totally free here??? I'm going, who's with me!?

Growing Imagination

Baupiloten is a group of architecture students who during their studies at Faculty VI, Institute for Architecture at Berlin Technical University (Technische Universität Berlin) develop their own projects from concept to implementation under professional guidance. Architect Susanne Hoffmann founded Baupiloten (Bau=build, Piloten=pilot) in 2003 and has headed it since 2004.

The Taka-Tuka-Land kindergarten was originally erected as a temporary solution, but with the fantastic Baupiloten approach to the refurbishment, it has become a permanent place for children.

The Taka-Tuka-Land is part of the Pippi Longstocking lore created by the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. Pippi in Taka-Tuka Country is a movie based on one of her novels. The children at the kindergarten and their teachers created collages, models, drawings and ideas based on Taka-Tuka Land with bridges, huts, merry-go-rounds made of blossoms and thrones made of seashells. The Baupiloten students then spent several days with the children observing their daily routines, their schedules and their ways of communication.

From this extensive groundwork, the design story for the space was developed. The building itself is Pippi’s old oak tree that contains a lemonade factory. The lemonade breaks through the bark of the tree and flows outside creating padded play areas. The story of the building is a trip through the seven stages of the lemon tree, each facilitating a different activity: The lemonade tree, Glittering lemonade in the sun, Lemonade drops, The lemonade island, Waiting for the parents, Lemonade gallery.
