Stronger than a hurricane

During the trip in the mountains to change directions in life and have things go in a progressing way, the ocean had knocked down the pole on the beach.
Erected especially for the sea eagle to rest on.
Although he is not a sea eagle.
An alert fervent and loyal blog reader informed last month that:
“The "sea eagle" is more correctly called the Osprey, Pandion haliaetus.”
When returned to a location like “Estero del Tomate”, there is a protocol of activities to follow.
First of all, the Fuso Szulc needs to be levelled.
The fruit and vegetables stored.
Tarpaulins put to break the wind.
The Weather Centre installed.

But yesterday very high on the list was to erect a new pole for the friend, the osprey.
A dead tree washed ashore was found but rather far away.
With great effort it was hauled to a place on the beach in front of the Fuso Szulc.
And erected.
And indeed, this morning early already, the osprey is back and sitting on his pole.

Probably he is too much animal to realize that there is a correlation between the presence of the Fuso Szulc and a comfortable tree for him on the beach.

The best news from “Estero del Tomate” is that the insects are gone.
This must be because temperatures are lower.
This morning it was 21º C (70º F)
And the rather strong northwestern wind now blows during the day.
What a delight it is not to be bothered by insects anymore.
Not to be constantly irritated.
And to be bitten having to feel the itching everywhere.

As life wants always excitement to be present, tropical storm Norbert is on its way.
The 5 day clone prediction of the National Hurricane Centre predicts that on Friday tropical storm shows up right in front of “Estero del Tomate”.

Sunday, October 5

And the National Hurricane Centre says today:
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 65 MPH...100 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO AND
NORBERT COULD BECOME A HURRICANE LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT.

Fantastic.
Returned to “Estero del Tomate” to spend a few weeks to be able to work in peace and with full concentration when a hurricane is coming.

But this time it will be different.
The hurricane is not going to come here.
With the help of Miguel del Barco, the Jesuit priest who built the church in San Javier, Baja California, Mexico a force of will and determination is send towards Norbert the hurricane.
So that in the next few days it will change its course.
And it will remain possible to stay here.

Daily the predictions of the National Hurricane Centre will be published on this blog so that everybody can see how in a magical way the hurricane Norbert is pushed by virtual willpower to the west.

A good eagle

One of the birds that has always been observed along the coasts of Baja California, is the sea eagle.

A most shy animal that will fly away when a human is even still far away.
Mostly alone, sometimes there is company and they make strong shrieking sounds.

Sea eagles make large nests of branches and for example near Guerrero Negro these nests can be seen on top of telephone poles.

Most spectacular of sea eagles is the way they catch their food.
They eat fish.
To catch one they fly against the wind along the shoreline looking down.
When they see fish they make themselves fall down like a Stuka airplane.
They fall on the water surface with their feet and claws spread out.
They grip with their feet the fish and get airborne again.
Most funny is to see them shake themselves in midair to get the water off their feathers.
With the fish in their claws they fly to the hinterland to land on top of a cactus.
Where they eat the fish ripping the animal apart with the large and sharp beak the sea eagle has.

The sea eagle is a very individual animal.
Not like sea gulls who live in large groups for protection and company.

Sea eagles like to sit on driftwood on the beach to look around and wait for fish to come close to shore.

In a gesture of friendliness to the sea eagle, dead trees washed ashore have been erected to offer a comfortable place for them to watch and wait.

And this worked.
As of several days, a sea eagle uses the offered service.
The bird sits on the tree for hours until it is time to care for dinner.

Nature is now very hard on the person who insists staying at “Estero del Tomate”.
Strong winds driving crazy, bitten to death by billions of insects and bothered permanently by trillion of flies.
But in all this misery there is the sea eagle that is in permanent view and feels like a friendly companion in this situation.
Harmony here, at least with one animal.
