Fascinating flashes

How is it going with Edgar and his new passion of fishing?

The new development is that he is not allowed by his grandmother to go fishing by himself.
This is partly concern for his well being.
But also concern for a limitation of Edgar being available to assist her.
The best time of day for fishing is early in the morning.
But that is exactly the time he needs to go with his grandfather to help milking the cows.
Another good time to fish is at the end of the afternoon.
But that is exactly the time Edgar has to take care of the returning goats.
Hence, he can only fish an hour or so in the early afternoon.
When there is no fish.
And in any case, he is not allowed to go by himself.
Recently, he asked your faithful blogwriter to accompany him to the beach for a fishing session.
And like a nanny, or a body guard if you prefer, he was escorted to the beach where he fished.
Thanks to all the Gods of the different religions he caught a small Roncador that made his day.
At least he returned to his Grandmother proudly.

How is it going with the broken Sony radio?

Christina Gonzales, who lives in the town of La Ribera and who was visiting the rancho last weekend, explained that her neighbour had a business of fixing TV’s and radios.
Christina took the Sony radio with her and soon it will be known if it is repaired or a new one must be bought.

How are the lizards?

Some time ago a posting was about two large lizards living in the heap of stones next to the Fuso Szulc.
In fact, they are still living there.
Around noon they come out to take a sunbath.

What about this plan to sell the Fuso Szulc?

It is buzzing with rumors.
On a forum of a website for expedition vehicles fans this issue was already discussed.
Obviously, because the Fuso Szulc is the only expedition vehicle of its kind and unique in its design and outfit.
However, a public offering of the mobile palace is still pending.

How is the photo project “How the world loves” doing?

Amazing results are coming in.
Mostly because of the images.
Somehow, these pictures made by persons without artistic ambitions, are very convincing and revealing.

How is the weather?

Sunny and warm.

We love... and how!

By now a whole group of images have already been published of contributors attracted to the recent photo project “How the world loves”.

Because of this rather instant success it is becoming clearer what the photo project “How the world loves” actually truly implies.
What it is really about.

One of the remarkable things, as it is turning out, of the photo project “How the world loves” is that the images are very, very powerful.
They impress a viewer strongly and even initiate tender emotions.
While the images contributed are very ordinary, amateur images.
In another context, hardly anybody would pay any attention to the images.
Except the persons shown in the images or related to them.
But this context of an international website and the framework of showing how someone loves, makes a different spotlight shine on the images.
They are almost like lifted up and becoming important and valuable not only for the ones closely related to the images, but to all the visitors of the website of the photo project “How the world loves”.

Another aspect of the photo project “How the world loves” is that as an artist photographer a whole new avenue is walked.
Traditionally, a photographer chooses a subject, makes the images and present them.
A way of operating that is like a doctrine.
The conventional way of working for a photographer.
But in the case of the photo project “How the world loves”, the photographer is not making any picture.
He only had the idea for the project and created the framework for others to showcase their images.
That is a very unusual role for a photographer to play.
Pioneering indeed.

The exciting part is that it is completely unknown where the photo project “How the world loves” will lead to.
How it will develop and what more shapes it will take.
There is at this stage not much thinking about it.
For the moment much effort is made to promote the photo project “How the world loves” and to get as many people as possible contribute their images.
If at one point a serious amount is reached, new ideas may develop how to proceed with the photo project “How the world loves”.
Possibly a traveling exhibition.
A photo book.
Or making prints of all the images contributed; to put them in a spaceship to send out to unknown civilizations to inform them who we are.

Love in winter

The winter has also arrived in the area where is Punta Boca del Salado, Baja California, Mexico.
The daily swimming in the Sea of Cortez has ended.

The winter came with the usual strong north-western winds and temperatures are now 16 º C (60º F) at night and around 25º C (77º F) at noon.
Rather moderate, one might say.
But that is from the perspective of the person up north caught in a severe winter.
The perspective here comes from last summer when nights were 26º C (79º F).
That makes 16º C (60º F) bitter cold.

Maybe better to go to Mexican’s mainland and travel to the southern town of Puerto Escondido.
Where during the day now it is 31º C (87º F) and at night 21º C (71º F).

Compare this to New York.
Where today it is a rather pleasant 17º C (63º C).
But at night a shivering 3º C (38º F).

Meanwhile the website of the photo project “How the world loves” is up and running.
Now in 5 languages: English, Dutch, Greek, Spanish and Polish.
With more languages to come like German and Chinese.

It is a matter now of the photo project becoming a snowball rolling off a hill becoming bigger and bigger.
To see the initiative of one man become an event created and carried by thousands worldwide.

The most important stage in this process has been happening.
The first persons have been sending in contributions and they are published on the website.
If one now goes to the website of the photo project “ How the world loves” the visitor actually will see contributors giving an answer to the question how we love.

This news might inspire most fervent and loyal blog readers to quickly go to the website of the photo project “How the world loves”.
To see for themselves how those contributors love.

When doing so, these recommendations are offered.

Inform as many people as you know about this photo project and send them the link to the website.

And consider becoming a top participant in the photo project “How the world loves” by sending in your own, personal contribution.

Make it YOUR project.

Enjoy and share hurrying to:

How does the world love?

It was an important and exciting week.
The new photo project “How the world loves” has been launched.

For 4 years much of the work was on the project “The most beautiful people in the world”.
Travelling to 10 different countries and meeting so many wonderful people.
An experience of a lifetime.

“The most beautiful people in the world” is not finished yet.
There are still magazines preparing publication and serious work is taking place to have the project published as a photo book.

But the feeling was that the time was right to start the follow-up project.
“How the world loves”
A project about persons who show the world how they love.

They can do this by going to a website where they get more information about the project.
And the possibility to contribute photographs that show how they love.
These images are published on the same website where every contributor gets his or her own page.

Fervent and loyal blog readers are recommended to visit this website to discover for themselves what the photo project “How the world loves” is exactly about.
And to possibly contribute.

Another important thing is to inform family and friends about “How the world loves”.
To tell them about this initiative and the opportunity to contribute and share how we love.

Therefore, we all click now on:

15 minutes of fame

Some time ago a rather hilarious event was witnessed on the BBC Worldservice radio.
They have a program called “Over to you”.
Listeners are asked their opinions about important geopolitical matters.
They can send e-mails and SMS messages while an expert in the studio responds to all the comments.
Some of the people who contributed get a phone call from the BBC saying they will be live in the program to say what they have written.
Some time before the actual broadcasting they know they will get a second phone call and they realize they will speak live to millions of listeners all around the world.

There was this guy in Accra, Ghana, who knew he was going to be on the radio and obviously got very excited about it.
He forgot that everybody’s opportunity to get world fame lasts not longer than a few minutes maximum.
One must be quick and smart to make a strong statement within the small time window attention is offered.

When the journalist got him on the line and asked his opinion, he replied in a slow and statesman-like way:
“Thank you for this interview”.
And continued to start to make his lengthy declaration.
Ready for this important and long interview only he was anticipating.
So, within minutes, he was cut off, thanked for his (useless) participation and the next person got on the line.
Obviously the Ghanese was totally disillusioned because for some time he had been thinking and probably telling his mother and friends, that he was going to have an interview on worldwide radio.

Artist Andy Warhol made in 1968 a statement that became well known:
"In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes."
But the Ghanese person didn’t even get two minutes.
Because he screwed it up.

Yesterday was an interview with national Dutch radio about the new photo project “How the world loves”.
It is a daily program of 3 hours and they have several subjects.
Hence, for the journalist it is like a sausage factory.
One guest and subject after the other and attention and interest goes to a limited depth.

How to get the best from the occasion?
One strategy is to keep strongly in mind that a radio interview is an opportunity to talk to the audience.
Not to talk to the journalist as such and respond to his or her questions but to mainly take the questions as an opportunity to inform the audience what is important for them to know.

This strategy works only though if the journalist personally gets interested by what he hears.
It is only effective if the subject quality changes from a sausage to something that surprises and intrigues.

Both projects “The most beautiful people in the world” and “How the world loves” have always made journalists get personally involved.
Main reason is that the projects are about them as well.
The experience of beauty and the way to love concerns journalists personally also.

Often, through the interview they become so concerned that in fact they turn into participants of the projects.
In their way, they contribute we all get together around an important issue.

Hopefully this posting reaches Accra, Ghana.

Persistent pioneering

One of the projects at hand is the follow up to “The most beautiful people in the world”.
A new project called: “How the world loves”.

Similar to most projects performed before, it is unknown if this project is going to be successful or not.
This is inherent to the way a pioneer works in photography.
Always looking to walk undiscovered tracks to reach unseen areas.

“How the world loves” starts with the opening of a website probably next week.

Opening page of new website from the project "How the world loves"

Visitors to this website are explained what the project is about and invited to participate.
This they do by sending in pictures showing how they love.
Every contributor gets a personal page on the website of “How the world loves” for the whole world to see how the participant loves.

The idea is that people from all over the world will send in contributions.
The special issue is that nowhere on the website of “How the world loves” it is explained what is intended with the word love and its performance.
Every person can make a very personal interpretation and formulate a most specific answer to how one loves.

Is this going to work?
Is this going to be as successful as “The most beautiful people in the world”?

There are no answers yet to these questions.
And in fact there is no worry about that.
Already, being involved in the preparations of the project, a feeling of accomplishment and happiness is achieved.

In art one must try.
There are no fixed answers or solutions.
No guarantees or securities.
Entering territories never scouted before is the only way.

This is being a pioneer.
Starting a new project after another one is finished.
Never reaching a destination.
Because travelling the road is the destination.

What a job!

These are exciting days because of the progress made with the two photo projects on hand.

“The most beautiful people in the world” had lost most of its momentum after the French publisher Robert Delpire suddenly cancelled his involvement last July.

But with the loyal help of two friends in the Netherlands an international publisher was approached.
This has resulted in a contact now with the most famous book designer in the Netherlands.
With him a process is taken place to see if he can come to a sparkling, innovative and convincing design of “The most beautiful people in the world” as a photo book.
Once that has been achieved, book publishers can be approached again and consequently in a most convincing manner.

It is a long process to bring a photo project like “The most beautiful people in the world” to a successful and satisfying conclusion.
Without insisting and absolute believe it is never possible.

Meanwhile, adding to the reborn momentum, the magazine “Vision” in China has decided to publish a selection of “The most beautiful people in the world”.
The same for the Arab version of the magazine “Marie Claire” in Kuwait.

At the same time, the follow-up photo project of “The most beautiful people in the world” is about to go public.
It is called “How the world loves”.
Soon a website will open of the photo project “How the world loves”.
Where visitors can learn more about the photo project and become a participant and contributor.
The website offers the opportunity to send in images and text showing and explaining how someone loves.
These contributions are all published on the website of “How the world loves” almost instantly.

To make this possible a lot of website engineering is needed and this is done with a website genius called Peter Bouwmeester from the company Digital Media Art.
With him is a very creative and fruitful collaboration and this is key to an excellent result.

Loyal and fervent blog readers may ask where the photographer comes in if participants in the photo project “How the world loves” send in their own pictures.
The answer to this question is that once many people have contributed their images and texts to the website of “How the world loves”, a selection of the most remarkable participants will be made.
These persons, wherever they live, will be visited in their homes where they will be documented.

The last project resulted in most pleasant meetings with persons believing to be the most beautiful.
Now persons will be met who can show how they love.
What a job!

Russia calling

It may be surprising to many fervent and loyal blog readers but anybody can make a phone call to the Fuso Szulc.

It is a phone number in the USA that works through SKYPE.
When on line, the computer switched on, the Datastorm Internet System active and the program SKYPE opened, the phone rings in the Fuso Szulc and soon a conversation takes place.

If the Fuso Szulc is not stand-by for phone calls, there is an answering machine that takes messages of the callers.

Yesterday the phone was ringing.
It was the webhosting company “IX Webhosting”.
They had already tried to call four times leaving messages each opportunity.
Asking to call back.
Leaving an 800 number.
However, an 800 number in the USA cannot be called from abroad.

Why was “IX Webhosting” calling?
They are the company taking care of all the websites and e-mail originating from the Fuso Szulc.
An excellent company with unsurpassed service.

“IX Webhosting” wanted to talk about the newly opened website of the photo project “How we love”.
What was that website about?
Obviously, the word “love” in the title made “IX Webhosting” think that the website possibly had to do with the porno business.
And maybe their policy is to not get involved in that kind of activities.

So, for the first time it had to be explained what the photo project “How we love” was about.
To a woman who had a strong Russian-like accent.
Obviously working in a call centre in Minsk, Belarus or in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Very polite, friendly and efficient.

The explanation of the project “How we love” was accepted and soon the website will open.

How we love

A flashing revelation yesterday: now is the time to start the new photo project.

For the last four years the work has been on the photo project “The most beautiful people in the world”.
In March 2008 the last country was visited for this photo-project.
India.
The status of “The most beautiful people in the world” now is that after the withdrawal and cancellation by the French publisher something is cooking in the Netherlands.
This is now a matter of waiting if it will find momentum.

The idea for the new photo project was born some time ago.
And now it feels is the moment to actively start working on it.
To initiate it and bring it out into the open.

The photo project is called:

“How we love”

People worldwide will be asked to give an answer to a question.
The question:
“How do you love?”

Like with the photo project “The most beautiful people in the world”, this time once more it is not precised beforehand what exactly is meant by “ to love “.
Who, where, how, what, when, why.
It is completely open for the respondents to decide.
This guarantees a wide range of possible answers making the result the most fascinating.

Right now the consideration is not to repeat the approach as was made with “The most beautiful people in the world”.
For that project national teams were created in each of the ten countries.
And in each country announcements were published in newspapers.
People could respond by sending a letter or e-mail with pictures.
Next, the serious respondents were visited and documented in their homes.
This is in fact a very complicated organisational and logistic way of working.
And very expensive as well.
And it has as a disadvantage that only people in ten countries could participate.

This time the idea is to perform the project exclusively on the Internet.
People may visit the website of the photo project “How we love”.
There they are introduced to the photo project.
In case they have an answer to the question “How do you love?” they can send the reply by e-mail.
Their response will be published on that same website.

This is the initial approach of performing the new photo project “How we love”.

But it must be seen as an entity that has no fixed forms.
That is not dogmatic in the way it is being performed.
It is supposed to become a thing of us all.
With a high input of other people.
Creating all together a result that opens our eyes even wider.
To see and feel love.
