A Card, Die Storage and a Publication

sunshine
Good morning! Today’s post is a little of this and that…some cards as well as some die storage that I worked on during Spring Break.  Up first, though, is a card I made for my colleague at work…if you follow my blog, you’ve seen the other ones in this Sunshine and Smiles series.  Well, this one is one of 4 in a set I also made.  The other ones are quite fancy so I thought I’d make 4 simpler ones for when she just wants to write a quick note.  These were so quick and easy, but I love the elegance of the flowers and pearls.  A few weeks ago, I had “organize dies” on my Spring Break to-do list.  Now my Verve dies have always been organized as Julee has labeled each die and created its own little pocket for easy storage in any container.  However, my PTI dies just come in a plastic bag so I am forever forgetting their “exact name” and just had them all thrown in a basket which was starting to drive my anal side crazy…lol.  Dawn McVey had a great idea on how to store her dies so I followed her instructions HERE to a “T.”  Here are my VERY organized dies now :D

As you can see, each die (except for the really long or big dies) has its own labeled pocket.  My anal side has put each kind of die (fillable frames, tag-it, etc) in its own colour section :)  Below here, I’ve shown 2 sets of dies to prove that each pocket will hold all 3 blossom dies or 4 leaf dies.  AND they are leaning against my beloved Janome sewing machine…it is 2 years old now and I haven’t had ONE problem with it…the best investment EVER!!  (just sayin’!).  It sewed through 35 acetate sheets and heavy cardstock like BUTTAH!!  I was the one that pooped out !! LOL

But now I have organized dies and couldn’t be happier :)  Okay, now the last part of this post is just showing the little Easter card I had published last month in CARDS.  The bit of trivia about this card is that it was turned onto its side in the magazine…don’t know if they did that on purpose or if the card stagers didn’t realize it!! LOL…no matter…but you can imagine my little chuckle when I looked at the magazine and saw the change :)

Well, that’s it for me…hope your Wednesday has started well…thanks for visiting and please, if you have a little organization tip for me, leave a comment…my anal side and I thank you in advance!! LOL

I couldn’t resist making another card for the Moxie Fab World’s Trigger Tuesday challenge…I have these fabulous vintage button cards of my Grandpa’s and one of them matched the blue in this inspiration photo :)  I love how they say “Made in Canada” at the bottom :)  To justify making another card just for fun…I turned it into another one of my Sunshine and Smiles cards…the set of cards I’m making for a friend at work :)  “Justify” in the fact that I have a long “to do” list this week and have to stay on schedule! ;)

I was once again inspired by the colours and buttons of the Trigger photo :)  Okay, no more posts today!!  It’s still bright and sunny out and I’ve just brewed some fresh coffee…one more card to make today and then off to finish organizing my die collection!!  I’m writing out all their names too so I can be more specific in my recipes :)  Thanks for popping in AGAIN! LOL

Sunshine and Smiles #2

sunshineandsmiles2

Hi everyone!!  Well, I’m back safe and sound from my out of town teaching conference.  It was fabulous and I can’t wait to try something I learned in my class this week :)  I’ve tried switching gears now to card making and thought I would ease into it with a card for Stacey’s Curtain Call Colour Challenge.  Stacey is throwing us some fabulous bright colours and I just love them.  I’ve been on a white card base kick lately.  I just love the crisp, clean look of it.  This card is also my second card in the Sunshine and Smiles series, a set of cards for a colleague who always uses “Sunshine and Smiles” with her signature :)  Well, that’s about it for me…off to do some household things before getting back to the studio.  Thanks for stopping by today :)

Sunshine and Smiles Series

sunshineandsmiles1
Good morning!! Well, Valentine’s Day has come and gone and that means the next card making season is St. Patrick’s Day {{wink, wink!}}  and SPRING!!!  Bless that little Groundhog for predicting an early Spring 2 weeks ago…it was SOOOOO beautiful here yesterday…the kids were even taking off their jackets at lunch!!  Today’s card started out as sketch challenge, but my inspiration led me away from it a bit too much and so I just went with what was coming out of my head.  One of the biggest thrills for me as a card maker is hearing how much my card has meant to someone.  Last month I sold many of my cards at work to coworkers. Well, one of my sweet coworkers approached me today and asked if I would make her a set of cards with the words, “Sunshine and Smiles.”  It turns out this is her “signature quote” when she signs her name!  I love when things like this happen.  Another teacher who had bought a card from me (with this sentiment) gave it to HER!! LOL  She loved it so much, she is now asking if I could make other cards using it :)  And so is born my little “Sunshine and Smiles” series.  Whenever I make another card for her set, I’ll post it here :)  But in the meantime, I wish you all Sunshine and Smiles  :)
