Congrats!!

congrats

Good morning!!  It’s been awhile since I played along with the Card Patterns sketch.  But this one really spoke to me with that sweet little banner :)  AND I’ve had these extra banner shapes sitting on my desk for 2 months!! I couldn’t bear to throw them out as they took awhile to make (figuring out the dp for THIS CARD).  I also was looking for a card to put some of my new royal velvet ribbon on!  Oh what a rich colour…a cross between purple and navy…LOVE!  With such a fun card, I had to pick a fun sentiment…this one from Verve’s To the Moon Set was perfect!!  I also used my GRAND circle nestabilities to make this card a little under 5 x 5.  Thanks for stopping by!!  I had a lot of time to play in the studio this weekend, so I’ve got lots of fun things to share for the rest of the week :)  Hope you come back!!

Happy Birthday to You

happybdaycardpatterns

Good morning!! Well, I’m a little giddy about today’s card :)  After making a big FLOP card, I sat down to play with my latest Wild Card Colour Challenge.  These sweet colours have been staring at me for almost a month!!  Yikes!!  I think they were secretly waiting for this card to be pulled out of my brain :)  Of course, a cool sketch helps too!!  I’m using this week’s Card Patterns sketch.  I wasn’t too sure about all the circles, but once I had some paper out and this die cut doily, I was back in my “happy card making place.”

I knew I had to challenge myself NOT to make leaves with the ripe avocado!! HA!!  I always think “leaves” when I have green in the colour palette, but not today :)  This green paper is from Basicgrey’s new Hello Luscious pack…and luscious it all is!!  I snuck berry sorbet in with the buttons :) I can’t believe poor berry sorbet has only a bit part on the card today…usually it’s my neutral!! LOL  Yay, now I get to pull 4 new colours!!  Have a lovely Sunday…and for more eye candy, head over to the Verve Blog…the Divas are showcasing their favourites of the March Release!!  Then, check out the new March Release and Sale going on!!  Thanks for stopping by today…wish me luck back at it tomorrow :)

Happy New Year!!

happynewyear

Well, here we are…the last day of the year.  I’m not a real big fan of “New Years.”  I don’t like all the hype, overpriced dinners and resolution making as I try to change things about myself as need be, not just because it is a new year.  PLUS, being a teacher, my New Years is July 1st, the first day of summer vacation and Canada Day!! LOL  So when people ask, what’s your resolution this year, I always say, “This above all, to thine own self be true.”  I love that quote and have it up in my kitchen :)  Do what I know is right and true and if I do something wrong, make it right.  Golden rule stuff.  Today’s card was so fun to make.  I used this week’s Card Patterns sketch along with some more of that Mind’s Eye glitter paper Melisa gave me :)  I also inked up the branches and Happy New Year sentiment from Verve’s Merry Wishes.  This is the only New Years card I’ve made (I make Christmas cards to send out), but I have a special friend in mind who will love this :)  AND because even our local mail has been excruciatingly slow these past few weeks, I will hand deliver it!! LOL  One thing I do like about New Years, though, is all the hugging, so I will wish you all a Happy New Years with a big hug!! :D  I do think it will be an exciting year!!  PS…like these stamps?  Today is the last day of the VERVE Good Buy sale…see my sidebar for the link and savings code!!).

The Most Wonderful Time ~ Card Patterns Guest Designer

Good morning friends!! Today I have the honour of being a Guest Designer for the Card Patterns Sketch #88.  Oh, I love that number...my son was born in 1988!! LOL  I was so happy when I saw the sketch this week...endless possibilities :)  I chose a shabby, vintage-y style, using some favourite items, October Afternoon paper, poinsettia dies, buttons, seam binding ribbon, stitching, BLING, and a Verve stamp :)  After cutting all the paper, I distressed the edges and then tea dyed them :)  I hope you can join us this week...thanks to Michelle and all the talented ladies over on Card Patterns for letting me play along with them this week :)  Have a fabulous day and thanks so much for stopping by and spending a few moments with me :D

Be Beautiful Inside

Good morning, dear friends.  I thought I'd change it up a bit...a horizontal card....an Autumn card (lol)...and a new stamp :)  I love the simplicity of the Card Patterns sketch this week.  I knew I wanted to use some Autumn paper and was about to go for a tree image (sans buttons, though), but the sentiment panel had to be narrow so the original plan was nixed.  I was reaching for some felt to make some more felt leaves, when I saw my piece of canvas in my felt drawer...Eureka!!  It gives the leaves a more natural look and mutes the bright ink I used (mustard and kiwi).  A little burst of berry sorbet (I was missing it!) picked up from the Cosmo Cricket paper and a little bling for good measure :)  The sentiment stamp is one I picked up at Impress in Bellevue, WA in the summer.  I love it, but the font is a little boring (sorry to the stamp company, but it is!).  Wouldn't it be a great Verve Plain Jane?  Just sayin'!!   Well, I am armed with coffee and tylenol...my school is heading out to the amazing Adam's River Sockeye Salmon Run...a miracle of nature, but also a two hour round trip on a school bus...lol.  Parents get to ride out in the comfort of their own vehicles, but us teachers have to ride the bus!! LOL  Maybe I'll make cards in my head :D  Salmon amaze me!!!  They come back to spawn centimetres from the redd (nest) where they were deposited 4 years earlier!!! And with no GPS!!! Amazing!!!  Here's a link for more info....anyways, wish me luck!!! LOL  Have a great one!!

Hi-Ya!! Wild Card Colour Challenge #5

Greetings!!! Or I guess I should say, "Hi-ya!!"  If all has gone well, I am basking in the gorgeous beauty of the Sunshine Coast here in Beautiful British Columbia.  The dh and I have been looking forward to this little getaway for some time...hopefully we'll get some salmon fishing in and lots of fresh seafood dinners.   In preparation for my absence, I have this little card and a few other posts coming up...so check back every other day or so :)  When I first drew these colours, I was about to put them back as I thought it was too much like the WaCCCky #4...but I had to stay true to the challenge and it really only has 2 of the same colours.  The new house rule will be "if there are 3 or 4 of the same colours, redraw all the colours."  (I love making up the rules!! LOL)  I put these 4 colours on my desk for a few days...thinking of different patterned papers that would work.  Then I put them on my desk and started to move them around.  I really like the terracotta against the blues and berry sorbet.  The flower layers were die cut and then crimped for a bit of different texture.  Moe "likey!" LOL  Thanks for popping by...have you tried pulling your own colour combo?  I would love to hear about it:)

Wonderful Friend

Good evening!!  A little late night post for you all...it seems all of North America is still on the long weekend!! Many Canadians took Friday off as well to make it an extra long one and it sounds like many Americans may get tomorrow off in lieu of July 4th being on a Sunday (at least my relatives who live in the States :).  I haven't played along with the Card Patterns sketch challenge for a while...but couldn't resist the 2 circles on this one.  It made me think of buttons which made me think of my new nesties Labels 13.  Now when I first saw these labels I thought they were the weirdest shape (which they are!! LOL).  But when I saw THIS CARD by Jennifer Holmes, I changed my mind...oh, that's what you can do with them!!  Eureka!!!!  I love them now :D  Oh, and a blog buddy, Lindsay, is the guest designer this week :)  Have a wonderful evening and sweet dreams :)

My Heart of Comfort

Good morning!!  I am off early this morning to a huge garage sale in the community where two of my sisters live here in town and where we'll eventually be building next year.  It's one of the city's biggest sales and people even come from out of town to go to it.  It's where I sell some of my cards and sell old stamps...yes, I sell them.  My likes change or the style is too outdated or I just need room for all the new stuff!!! LOL  I run into a lot of people I know and it's usually a fun day if the weather cooperates :)  Today's card is for the Card Patterns sketch.  You could interpret it as a circle card, like I did, or as a square card with a circle on it.  I had this My Mind's Eye dp on my scrap pile and thought I would make this a bright and cheery card.  I struggled a bit with the flowers as nothing was showing up against the bright background!!  LOL  After switching flowers and buttons around, I came up with the pumpkin felt flower and tied a big bow on the button.  No library card on this one, but here's a clip!! I just love them :)  The sentiment is from Verve's One Person again.  Here I thought I'd be using my Blessings set first and haven't even inked it up.  The sentiments are a bit bigger so I'll have to wait for a different sketch with a big panel.  Have a wonderful Sunday...wish me luck at the garage sale!! :)
