January 2025 Challenge #1 New Years Resolutions

Hello hello!  It is time for our first challenge of the month!  As always, I’ll remind  you of our inspiration kit: Hip Kit’s “Good Things Ahead.”

It wouldn’t be a new year without New Year’s Resolutions.  This challenge is all about documenting the New Year and those resolutions or goals that most of us seem to set.    So the challenge is to create a layout documenting one or more of your goals for 2025!

Let's take a look at how our Guest Designer and Master Forgers took on the challenge.

Guest Designer Jennifer

I am not a typical resolution type person, but I set Scrapbooking goals every year. This year my goal is to scrapbook all these cute pictures I have of my nieces and nephew growing up. Since I hop all over the place and scrapbook what inspires me, this is doable for me. I created this baby kit to jump start it.

Today's layout is of my first great niece. She has a few layouts already but nothing documenting her birth. So I started with this cute first family photo. I used Photoplay, Heidi Swapp and thickers. It's a black and white photo cause that's how her mom posted it online. Check out my YouTube channel to see how it came together. https://youtu.be/uZUHYz9u5Pc?si=Gp-AshEDtwhg3XjI

Master Forger Tina

Tina scrapped about her 2nd set of goals for 2025 her Health Goals in this layout using her kit and bringing in the one theme paper to help enhance the story.

This month is going to be such fun!  See you next time!

January 2025 Mini Kit and Project Reveal

Hello!  Master Forger Christine here and today is Mini Kit time!  The beginning of the year can be so busy after the slowness of the holidays.  Are you one with minimal scrappy time this month, just getting your feet wet as a scrapbooker, or perhaps you only need to scrap a few photos?

A mini kit may be just the thing to get you going.  A mini kit offers simplicity and is perfect for beginners or those with limited time. I

Two of our Master Forgers are going to show you how they build a mini kit and how they use them.

As a reminder, our inspiration kit for the month is Hip Kit’s “Good Things Ahead.”

Master Forger Brandi

As always, I start my kit-building process by pulling a color palette from the inspiration kit.

I had two ideas in mind when I pulled my kit - a layout or two, but focusing on some everyday type cards this month. So, I made sure to include some basic background papers and a few 6x6 paper pads with cardmaking in mind. Here's my kit "Sweet Little Moments."

My first project was a layout - I used a sketch from A Cherry on Top crafts to document a few bump photos of my 2020 pregnancy!

I plan to create bundles of Thank You Cards to gift to my boys' teachers as end of year presents this spring, so this kit was the perfect jumpstart to that project! I managed five pairs of cards so far with kit.

I rounded out my kit with (2) 8x8 layouts for my 2024 "52 Favorites" album - I still have a few scraps left to work with so make sure to follow me on Instagram or stop by our FB group to see what else I come up with this month!

Master Forger Laurie
The inspiration kit this month is very versatile. I see several themes, such as school, theme parks, summer fun, even Spring. When choosing supplies for my mini kit I focused more on the school themed papers and embellishments. Here is my mini kit.

When it came time to create my layouts I found myself using several "B" sides of the papers I had chosen. Here are the three layouts I have created thus far.

Now, let's see what we have lined up for the rest of this month:

January 2025 Forgeries on the Fourth

Today is the day when our Master Forgers share the forgeries they have created for the month of January. First, let me remind you of our inspiration kit, Hip Kit’s “Good Things Ahead.”

Master Forger Misty

Our previous CKC leader used to find lots of free resources for people to include in their kits. In this Lisa style I've found this site that allows you to download many images that you can print to include in your kits. The site I just discovered is called FreePik. They have paid for content, but also plenty of free options if you are just using it for personal use.

Based on the coffee icon I found in the kit (look really closely at some of those images!)

coffee brewers
Find the one above.

Or get this one.

How about some mod (or as I've learned they are called "Scandinavian") flowers:

Alright, if you want other makes that you can do by hand, let me show you my ideas.

I created many items from stamps and dies I had tucked in my kit. However, I always try to share ideas that you can make even if you don't have my special stamps and dies.

Two of those items I created with a simple circle punch. Most people have a circle punch or die in their stash!

  1. I attempted a "mod" flower (far right). I think it could use more details before I'd call it done. Personally I'd use a smaller size circle punch to keep adding layers to the flower.
  2. That top left apple I created just using a circle punch,  a pen and a tab bit of scissor trimming. I show you how I do it in my monthly makes video.

Master Forger Julene

Have you ever looked closely at a tissue box?

I finished this one recently and because the colours match our kit, I made a few items. That is 2 small tags, 2 large tags and a border strip.

Master Forger Tara decided to put her brand new Cameo that she received for Christmas to print and cut some of the denim pockets that are in the inspiration kit! She used Silhouette Design Store #10513.  She used her Canon TS9521C printer, which is a wide format printer, to print and the Cameo to do the cutting.  Easy Peasy!!

Don't be afraid to try some forgeries of your own.  Be sure to post them so we can all admire them!

Now, let's see what we have lined up for the rest of this month:

January 2025 - Just the Gist of It

Hello friends!   Welcome back to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog for January 2025. Master Forger Christine here and I'm going to talk about how I created my kit for the month. As a reminder, our inspiration kit is Good Things Ahead by Hip Kit from their September 2024 monthly subscription.

I actually received this kit when it was released.  So I do have a bit of a head start.

But, when I create a counterfeit kit, I always begin with the papers.  My typical approach is to find a matching or similar paper to each one shown in the image of the inspiration kit.  For example, if there is a plaid, I’ll try to find a plaid – Stripes, I’ll look for stripes.

In this collection, there are also several that would make great forgeries!

The first is the mixed media background.  A little ink and packaging technique and you are good to go.  The second is the icon paper with the soft gray icons.  You could use small stamps with gray ink and easily create a similar background.  And lastly is the "Charlie Brown" pattern.  You could use scrap papers to create this similar pattern in the center of white cardstock.

Next step for me is to start looking at the various elements that make up the "decorations" of the kit.

For example, the rubons offer great inspiration for wordy bits and subtitles.  I also note some stars and icons like a camera or a football.  These are typically easy to find in old sticker sheets.

In this kit, there are some ephemera pieces and chipboard elements.  Both offer some great ideas to pull from you stash.  I see tons of circular items, some frames, tabbies, tickets, and flag banner.

Next is the font and enamel dots.  For me, it's all about the color.  I might even add a second font in a bit more of a script if I have one.  But in this case, I'll stick with the original and add the wordy bits from above.

Then lastly, I pulled from my older stash to add just a couple items.  This is already such a big kit, I will have touble using it all!  As usual, I'm using the colorway as my inspiration.  I had some fussy cut florals and some journaling pockets.  Plus, I found a few chip board sticker elements in the right colors.

Make sure to pop over to the Facebook Group and Instagram to see what our other Forgers put together!I do have a video explaining my thought process with a bit more detail if you want to check that out as well.

Now, let's see what we have lined up for the rest of this month:

  • 6th January - Mini Kit and Project Reveal
  • 12th January -  Challenge #1 – New Year’s Resolutions!
  • 18th January - Challenge #2 - OLW

January 2025 Inspiration Kit and Social Media Hop

Welcome to January 2025 and a New Year on the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog!

Master Forger Christine on deck to guide us through my first month of counterfeiting fun! Our inspiration kit for the month will be Hip Kit's September 2024 "Good Things Ahead". I chose this kit because I love the unique color palette and hey, it's a new year so there must be good things ahead!

This kit isn't your typical "winter" theme, which means you have so much opportunity to work with it!  I know in Texas, we don't see much winter, so this is a good fit for those of us without snow!  For inspiration, I've got the main kit and the embellishment kit images shown here.

Now, let's meet our guest designer for the month, Jennifer Cain!

I've been following Jennifer on Youtube and Instagram for a while and love her non-traditional style.  I met her virtually when we were both on a design team together and then decided to pair up on our own YT Collab.  So she was the first person I thought of when inviting a Guest Designer. Here is a little more info from Jennifer herself!
"I have been scrapbooking for 25+ years. I enjoy using just about anything to show off my photos and tell my story. I scrapbook 8 1/2x11 size, single layouts in portrait, landscape and double page layouts. I use lots of different items in my scrapbooking. I love learning new techniques and finding new items to use. I enjoy making interactive layouts including hidden tags, fold outs, mini waterfalls and pockets. I restarted my YouTube channel in that last year and have over a 100 videos posted. Also have over 1800 layouts posted on Instagram. I am under Jennifer ScrappinCain for both accounts."

Don’t forget to check out how our talented team of Master Forgers built their kits this month! I’ve linked everyone’s social media below, so go on, get out there and leave ‘em some love!
