November 2024 - Forgeries on the Fourth

Today is the day when our Master Forgers share the forgeries they have created for the month of November. First, let me remind you of our inspiration kit, Goldenrod by Traci Reed Designs.

Master Forger Misty

I liked many of the pattern papers and set out to recreate two of them. If you look at the pattern paper options, I recreated the 4th and 5th papers, counting from the right.

For the the white-stars-on-black, a simple star punch made this make super easy.

Next up I attempted to recreate the white-pumpkin-on-orange pattern paper. I was trying a different technique than I should have used. While my attempt isn't a great match for the original, the resulting distressed vibe is something I ended up liking.

Master Forger Vikki

For my forgeries, I put my Silhouette to work, using card stock that coordinated with the inspiration kit colors.  I chose two of the phrases, which I will use as titles.  I also cut out some flowers, using large buttons for the centers.  A simple leaf design completed my set of forgeries.

I really liked the multi striped paper in the inspiration kit, so I tried to replicate it by dragging ink pads along the paper, then blending

I wasn't pleased with how it turned out so I decided to make some embellishments with it. I used dies for the pumpkins and leaves. A punch and stamps were used for the tickets.

Don't be afraid to try some forgeries of your own.  Be sure to post them so we can all admire them!

October 2024 Forgeries on the Fourth

Today is the time of the month when the Master Forgers share their forgeries of what they have created!  Let me remind you of this month's inspiration kit:

Master Forger Misty

I'm here with fabric flowers for you! I've created both felt and upcycled denim flowers.

The felt beauties were cut using a die set (no longer available). I layered them up with various colors of felt and circles of cardstock hidden between the layers. The cardstock provides stability for the glue to hold on. Gluing felt isn't a super easy thing!

You can see that dies with embossing details will even emboss those into felt. And this is just cheap craft store felt; it is nothing special!

The denim was cut from a damaged pair of pants. There are two styles of flowers here.

Style A, pictured at the top: I cut rough circles and then spiral cut those circles from the outer edge into the middle. Then using a pair of reverse clamp tweezers, I grabbed the dangling outer edge and started rolling it into the middle. Hot glue it once it meets the end and voila!
(Tip: A looser roll makes for a prettier flower. I'll show you my fail for comparison ðŸ˜‚)

Style B, lower flowers. I just cut strips of denim. Then I used glue on a large circle of cardstock to hold the denim in place as I folded and turned the fabric to get it to form around the circle. I moved inward with each turn. Different sized circles and widths of strips create different sizes and fullness of flowers.

And for funsies, here is my fail!

There is a process video on my YouTube channel if you want to see these step by step!

Master Forger JoJo

For this month's forgeries, I got out my dies and made some flowers, bows and a real jean pocket using a piece of a scrapbook paper made out of real jean material. It will be perfect for my baby granddaughter's first pair of jean short photos.

To create these embellishments I used kraft paper, dies, white embossing powder, stickers and a chipboard die cut. You could also use a punch. I inked the outer edge with brown to give it a autumnal rustic look. If embossing is not your jam, stickers work well, as would word stamps.

Master Forger Tara spotted a video on YouTube where one of our FaceBook community members created her own woodgrain!  Thank you to Michele for allowing us to use her video!  Here's the video:

Here's a close-up of this beautiful woodgrain!

September 2024 - Forgeries on the Fourth

Today is the time of the month when the Master Forgers share their forgeries they have created!  Let me remind you of this month's inspiration kit:

 Master Forger Misty
Misty decided to recreate two sheets of the pattern paper: the black and white chevron print (2nd from the left) and the striped & stitched paper (5th from left). Once done she had some leftovers and made some bonus tags.

Chevron pattern paper – style #1 (side A)

Chevron pattern paper – style #2 (side B)

Misty created this double sided pattern chevron pattern paper using an embossing folder to stamp on one side (side B) and a stencil to create side A. They are both distressed, but B is more so than A.

Next, she created something much simpler using lots of washi tape and some loose-tension sewing machine stitching.

This is where the bonus tags came in. With tiny leftover bits of washi tape trimmed from the edges of this paper, she made some coordinating tags.

If you want to see more details, she has a process video for all of these items.

Master Forger Tara really loved the look of the green paper with the white grungy alpha print on it and so she set about creating a forgery of that paper using a piece of 49 & Market Spectrum Gardenia, some foam alpha stamps, and white acrylic paint.  Here's her paper:

Master Forger Tara also went on the hunt for free camera photo images that she could print and watercolor for her kit. Here's a link to one of them:

She's hoping to print a few of these and use some watercolor paint to make some pretty embellishment images to cut out and use on her layouts.

Master Forger JoJo stamped and die cut a few embellishments to go along with her kit this month!

Mater Forger Ryann really loves the butterflies in this kit this month!  She used shimmer watercolors and Tim Holtz Distress Spritz and made a background.  She used the die cuts she put in the kit and made them black.  She used circle cutters and a distressing tool and put them all together.

August 2024 - Forgeries on the Fourth

Hello! It's the fourth of August and that means it's time to share our Forgeries on the Fourth with you! Let's take a look at our inspiration kit again: Bee-utiful Day Kit by Jennifer Ferh from sweetshoppedesigns.com

This feature is all about the fun of making  your own embellishments or re-creating the papers as a way of getting the same look as the inspiration kit even if you don't have any of the original items. These tutorials are often so simple and easy that it really is a perfect chance to try out an idea or two. Make sure you share, if you do, we love to see it. We hope you're motivated to give it a go!

Now it's time to what our talented team has come up with. The Master Forgers often create things that would just not have crossed my mind.

Let's see what our Guest Designer, Sarah, created for her forgeries!

She recreated the solid paper example picture with coordinating flowers.

She also created some beautiful sunflowers with buttons in her stash.

Master Forger Misty

Misty created two items this go around. She made a version of the striped hexagon print in the bottom right of the pattern paper graphic. Secondly, she created some colorful butterflies inspired by a red and teal one hiding in the kit overview graphic. Check them both out.

Master Forger Jody

Hello friends! I had this cute little bee stamp and die in my stash for quite some time! I am so glad I got to create these bees and use them on my projects.

Master Forger Laurie
When I saw this month’s inspiration kit I was smitten with those cute bees. I happen to have a bee punch from Creative Memories which makes them easy to create. What’s that you say? You don’t have one. That’s okay. I’m going to show you how to create your own bees using circles punches and a heart punch. I used a 1” circle punch for the body, a 1/2” circle punch for the head and a teeny tiny circle punch for his antennae. For the wings I used a heart punch, and for his yellow stripes I just cut some card stock. I hope you’ll give this a try.

Master Forger Tara used dies, inks, and buttons to create some flowers for her kit!

Master forger Julene found a bee stamp and made some journal cards.
She had scraps of hexagon paper and drew a hive on the bottom card

Master Forger JoJo
She made this cute embellishment's using a bee die set. The flower she added ribbon
and used a button die for the center. The bottle cap tops, she punched circles out of
scraps and embellished them, What a fun addition to her kit.
