November 2024 Mini Kit and Project Reveal

Howdy, Howdy!  Master Forger Vikki here again and today we are talking about mini kits.  Are you short on scrappy time this month or do you just need to scrap a few photos?  Maybe you are a beginner scrapbooker? Then a mini kit may be for you.  A mini kit offers simplicity. It's perfect for beginners or those with limited time. It's also portable and budget friendly, allowing you to create a kit without have overwhelming choices. Two of our Master Forgers are going to show you how they build a mini kit and how they use them.

As a reminder, our inspiration kit for the month is Goldenrod by Traci Reed Designs.

Master Forger Julene

This is a long project. First starting with my mini kit 6 sheets of paper plus embellishments.

I didn't give it a name.

I used 4 paper bags from a chemist (drug store)

I covered both sides of the 4 bags with patterned paper.

and the other sides

Next, I folded each bag in half. I arranged them so there were alternate open and closed ends.
Stack them together. With the folds exactly even use a hole poker to make 4 holes or more.

I decided to stitch through with a darning needle and twine.
You now have a little book to decorate.
Here's my front cover.

  and my pages

The back cover is plain and the same patterned paper as the front. Here are my tags for the end pockets

I have left some pages blank for my daughter to add extra photos or extra journaling.
It took ages, days in fact!
My original instructions for paper bag albums are here.

Master Forger Tina

I'm known for my bigger kits so when I do a mini kit its got the same similarities.

I stayed with in the color scheme of the kit but went more in the direction of the plaids. I like choices in my kits so a few alphas that I'm trying to use up. I even found some Fall flair to play with in my stash for the kit. 11 full sheets of paper and some scraps too.

Made a double page layout using 2 full sheets of paper and 2 scraps a few embellishments too.

A walk one day in September 2023 along 445 by my apartment complex love to see nature when I can especially in the Fall as Winter is right around the corner.

One of the neighbor's Halloween display was so cool during that same walk.

October 2024 Challenge #3 Get Sketchy

Welcome back for our third challenge of the month! This one's always a sketch challenge to help get your creative juice flowing!

As a reminder, here's our inspiration kit for the month, An Autumn Tale: Chilly Breeze

This is the sketch I chose to work with this month. Remember, a sketch is just a jumping off point, you don't have to follow it exactly, or you can do whatever works for you. Just have fun with it!

Master Forger Ryann is working on her son's Boy Scout Career scrapbook, as he has just achieved Eagle Scout.  This is a layout from one of his first award ceremonies when he was 6 years old.  The denim in the kit really worked with this layout!

Master Forger Tina is working on her 2023 photos and used a walk that she did in the Fall for her layout

Master Forger Julene created this beautiful layout based upon the sketch!

We're not done yet! Here's a look at what's still to come for October.
  • 24th October - Follower Showcase
  • 28th October - November Sneak Peek (on Instagram and the Facebook Community)

September 2024 - Challenge #2 A Pop of Black

It's time for our second challenge of the month! As a reminder, our inspiration kit for this month is Daily Journal by Cocoa Daisy.

The inspiration kit has a lot of black accents which I think look so striking against the bright colors. Do the same on your projects by using black as a subtle accent color! think photo mats, alphas, small embellishments, etc!

I love using black as an accent color! I used a black frame for my layout, black mats on two of my photos and black alphas on this two-page spread!

Let's see what the rest of the team came up with this week!

Master Forger Julene used black flowers and butterflies on her layout. She also found a darkroom door filmstrip of flowers and use black for her matting. All these make the flowers in her bouquet pop.

Master Forger Ryann used an acetate from her stash and built from there.  She is working on an album from when she and her husband were dating.  She used a lot of different colors, and added some black stitching, title, and black and white leaves/flowers stickers that she colored in to pick up more of the color from the rest of the layout.

We hope you'll stick around for the rest of the month, here's a look at what's left!
  • 22nd September - Challenge #3 Sketch Challenge

August 2024 - Challenge #3 Sketch - Let's Get Sketchy

Master Forger Jody here with our monthly sketch challenge. Let me remind you of the Inspiration Kit that I chose for August:

This is the sketch I chose to work with this month.Remember, a sketch is just a jumping off point, you don't have to follow it exactly, or you can do whatever works for you. Just have fun with it!

Guest Designer Sarah Rouault created this layout using the sketch! It is so adorable!

Now, let's see how our Master Forgers used this sketch:

I used some chipboard circles that I painted green. Behind my photo is a scrap of dotted paper so I added some sploshes of mist in purple to make my layout dottier. I highlighted my photo of myself and the tamarins using a clear frame (vellum) that says,"You and I".

Master Forger Misty loved this sketch and had the perfect idea right away. Since mica watercolor paints were in her kit this month, she put those to use creating the circles.

Master Forger Cindy

I used the Hexagon dies that were included in my kit this month for substitutions of the circles. I fussy cut around the birds tail so that I would not cut it off with the dies. I love this bird paper; it makes a great accent for outside pictures.  I also had a hexagon piece that I used on the top right side, with the inside hexagons being used as accents around my pictures.

Now, let's see what we have lined up for the rest of this month:

  • 24th August - Follower Showcase
  • 28th August - September Sneak Peek (on Instagram and the Facebook Community)
  • 30th August - Challenge #4 Baby, Use Those Scraps Challenge

We really love to hear from our followers! Make sure that you come hang out with us on the Facebook Community Group. You can also hang out with us on Instagram by tagging #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcAugust2024.

Thank you so much - XO Jody

July 2024 - Mini Kit and Projects Reveal

Are you short on time or do you just need to scrap a few photos or are you a beginner scrapbooker? Then a mini kit may be for you.  A mini kit offers simplicity. It's perfect for beginners or those with limited time. It's also portable and budget friendly, allowing you to create without have overwhelming choices. Two of our Master Forgers are going to show you how they build a mini kit and how they use them. Let's take a look again at our Inspiration Kit:

Master Forger Julene

I kept my mini kit small with only 6 papers plus some embellishments.

One paper had a ready-made frame printed on it at an angle with a background of bricks. I used that for the Indian Gardens page

I used the darker purples on this one.

Pink and yellow busy paper used here.

My last one was for a sketch challenge and I added a red strip.

Master Forger Laurie

When I first saw this month’s inspiration kit I was immediately drawn to the yellows, oranges, deep blues and purples. These rich colors remind me of autumn and Halloween, creating a perfect mood and feel for my projects. The yellows and oranges remind me of falling leaves and pumpkins, while the blues and purples add a mystical, spooky touch. Here’s what I chose for my mini kit.

And here are the layouts I made. The first one is summery. I used the B side of the sunshine paper from my kit.

Next up for the month we will dive into our regular challenges. Here's what coming up:
