August Challenge # 1 - Phrase Stickers

Let's talk phrase stickers. You *know* you have some lying around ... they're those label-type stickers with words or quotes on them. Phrase stickers are often used as a small accent embellishment, but for this challenge I'd like to see them take center stage on your project. Use them for journaling, to create a title or as a major design feature. Don't be afraid to go wild and use several of them - the more, the merrier!

Let's see what our Master Forgers came up with ....

Our guest designer Monica used phrase stickers to create some journaling on her layout. You can visit her blog for more information.

Kelly put phrase stickers front and center on her page--using them to describe a recent trip to a farmer's market. See the all the details on her blog.

Now it's YOUR turn to get creative! We'd love to see how you incorporate phrase stickers onto your projects, so be sure to link up, post on Facebook and/or use hashtag #CounterfeitKitClub on Instagram! Happy Scrapping! xx

Hey...I can make THAT!

June Tutorials

Welcome to "Hey...I can make THAT!"  A monthly post to help you truly counterfeit many of the components of the current month's kit.  No need to go out and purchase...just use the supplies you already have to create some of the freshest and trendiest products out there.  Here you will find links to our amazing design team members' blogs and/or links to other craft sites on the web showing how to make these amazing products.

This month's inspiration kits and add-ons from Scraptastic Club offer a ton of opportunities to counterfeit.  Here's a refresher on our inspiration:

May 2013 After the Storm Kit

May 2013 Destination Unknown Add-OnMay 2013 Destination Unknown Kit

To get the whole low down on this month's kits, be sure to visit the June Kit Reveal post here, but for those of you who are ready to get down and dirty, let's get started!

DIY Enamel Dots

First up, we have those very popular (and a bit pricey) Basic Grey enamel dots as shown in the "After the Storm" Add-on kit.  I recently purchased that exact pack and paid $4.00.  What was I thinking?  The following link is a great resource for making your own using nail polish and floral lustre gems.  I tried this one out for myself and it worked beautifully (as shown above).  I couldn't find the clear gems at Michael's, but did find them in the floral department of AC Moore.  The 16 oz. package (which seems to contain hundreds, if not a thousand gems) cost $9.99 and I used a 40% off coupon.  I had plenty of nail polish on hand and wouldn't mind purchasing a few new colors for my gems AND my toes!  Only downside is that they are all the same size, but with this kind of cost savings, I think I can live with that.  Be sure to check it out here:  DIY Enamel Dots

Digital Word Stickers

Angela, our Digi Master Forger extraordinaire, has a fabulous tutorial for making word stickers with digital stamps and address labels from the stationers.  You certainly could use these to mimic those Echo Park tags in the Destination main kit.  Check out Angela's blog for all the details.

Bokeh-Style Papers
(pronounced like the word bouquet...learn something new everyday!)

Sherri, our featured guest designer this month, counterfeited the bokeh-style papers from Lily Bee that you see in the "After the Storm" kit.  She achieved these awesome results by following this bokeh tutorial from Lawn Fawn.

Here's what Sherri had to say about her process:  I tried just circles the first time, like the Kite Strings paper, and it came out great. I wanted to try the Gumball, too.  When I looked for a heart stamp in my stash, however, I found that my hearts, when flipped over, really didn't look like hearts anymore.  So, I punched a tiny heart from cardstock, then used the negative as a mask.  I just stamped over the heart with the circle stamp that I had been using.  It worked great!

Shapes, Die Cuts and Clusters...Oh My!

Milissa, one of our Master Forgers, has a smorgasbord of mini-tutorials posted.
Milissa M.
She will show you how to mimic the Jillibean Soup Corrugated Sunshine shapes, recreate the Scraptastic Hello Sunshine Diecut, and, just for fun, how to use your scraps up to make some homemade embellishment clusters!

So, these projects should keep you busy for a while!  Hope they help you complete your kit for the month.  Leave us a comment and post over to June Mr. Linky so we can applaud all of your creations!

See...you certainly CAN make THAT!

Nothin' but Stickers Challenge

Through the years I have had a VAST sticker collection.  When I first started scrappin', there were not many embellishments available, so I relied on stickers.  Mounds of stickers of every theme imaginable.  My tastes changed through the years as more things became available and I moved on from stickers.

It's time to revisit the issue.  I still don't love the flatness of them.  And the cheesiness of some of them.  However, we are much smarter scrappers now and can do SO much more to make the stickers a fun part of our project.

So...

Challenge #2:  Sticker Challenge:  Use NOTHING but stickers as embellishments on your project.  HA!

Our Design Team has been stickering it up (yep...that's a word...I just typed it).   Take a look!

Organize This: Week 11

This week's organization challenge is STICKERS and RUB-ONS.  You can view the sticker organization post here.

Rub-ons really bother me, I don't like using them much so I don't have many packs of them.  I think I bought one or two packs when they first came out, and decided I didn't like them much, so the only packs I have are probably from "bulk embellishment" purchases at yard sales.  But I think I have gotten rid of most of those too.

As for stickers, 99% of my stickers are already organized into either themes (Christmas, Halloween, School, etc) or kits.  So this week I guess I won't be organizing too much!!!

HAPPY ORGANIZING!!!

Design Your Own Stickers

Our Blog Hop Sticker Challenge inspired me to get out some new stickers that I won from Momenta a little while ago.

You can check them out HERE.

They come as blank white stickers in quite a few different styles.  You can use them as they are (white stickers are always a fun touch on a project...I can see them looking great on some Kraft cardstock). or use their really neat design your own sticker feature on their site.  I am NOT a techy person, so I was hesitant to try it (something ALWAYS goes wrong for me...I don't know how I manage to do it).  But thier site made it look so fun and easy that I had to give it a try.

You can go on line and pick out which sticker style you have.  They have some really cute fonts!  Then you can pick the pattern you want on your stickers.  There are SO many to pick from that it seems a bit overwhelming at first, but it is awesome to have so many choices!

And if that is not enough...you can customize the color of your pattern, too!  I was impressed with how easy it was to make it exactly match my project.

I picked a fun wood grain finish for my stickers and followed the directions to print them out.

Aren't these cute?  I am impressed on how easy it was to make them.  The hardest decision was what to pick for the patterns/colors.  I know I will get alot of use out of these.  And I just found an in town source to buy them:  Joanne's!

Here is how I used my stickers.  I will definitely be doing this again..and again...and again!

Tutorial-Inspiration from October Afternoon "Fly a Kite" Stickers

I took my cue for the following tutorials from these October Afternoon "Fly a Kite" stickers.
  • Learn how to create white text in a word processing program in this tutorial.  Creating White Text
  • A free digital set of journaling tags with white text is found here. Journaling Tag Download
  • The "Smash Page Tabs" would work great in place of the tabs on this sticker sheet.  Free Prinitable Tabs
  • If you scroll down towards the bottom of this blog post, she give GREAT instructions and  photos of creating your own "tabs" which are similar to the ones in this sticker set.  DIY Tabs Tutorial

Tutorial-Tags and Embellishing Stickers

Tags
There are a few cute and colorful tags in this month's kit.  Here are a few templates and ideas to help you make your own...

Two tag templates

Free SVG "tag" file

For those of you who have die cut machines capable of cutting True Type Fonts, check out this free set of dingbats to create lots of different shaped tags...Scallops and tags dingbat

Bonus tip:
When is the last time you used your "shaped" hole punches?  For a unique looking tag I grabbed a star shaped hole punch rather than a round hole punch to create the star shaped hole in my tags (pictured above)!  You can use any tiny hole punch for these shapes, imagine how cute a mini heart, shamrock, Christmas tree, leaf, flower, pumpkin, or birthday cake would be in place of that boring old round hole.  So pull out those "ancient" shaped hole punches and put them to use!

Embellishing Stickers

The stickers in this month's kit made us think about the older stickers we have in our stashes.  Here are a few ideas to refresh some of your old stickers.
