February 2025 - Mini Kit and Project Reveal

Welcome back to the blog. Today is the day we share mini kits with you. If you are short on time, or if you have a specific project in mind, a mini kit can have you covered. Two of the team, Vikki and Tina, are here to show off how they go mini.

As a reminder here is the inspiration We are working with this month.

Kitaholic Kits' May 2024 kit

I'll let the other ladies take it away now.

Master Forger Tina
It's great to be on the Mini kit crew this month. With my vacation this month for about 10 days I knew I wouldn't be scraping like I'm use to. A fun kit to counterfeit this month too. I went to 2 paper pads for most of my kit.

Love the pop of yellow and blue on a very neutral based kit. Reminds me of the outdoors, museums and buildings. I have pulled enough that if I want to scrap throughout the days available to me to scrap I can. For my project I decided on going back to my 2023 photos and scrap the day I went to the local Museum

My town has some wonderful history and it's always fun to check out the Museum for any new exhibits and this time did not disappoint with this cool exhibit of our old Canal system. Here's some close ups of the layout and journaling

I enjoyed using the neutral background for my photos and bringing in the colors for my accents.

This month I opted for what I consider a super mini kit.  I was drawn to the masculine colors of the inspiration kit and knew I had the perfect photos to go with the color choices.  I've been scrapping photos of my great niece a lot, so the "boyish" colors were a welcomed change this month.  I wasn't yet sure which color alphas I wanted to use, so decided to add those as I completed layouts.

I completed two projects so far with this month's mini kit.

I knew I wanted to use a photo from a concert I went to last year with this kit.  The paper depicting items from the 80s was a perfect pairing.  I added the guitar sticker to the kit with this photo in mind and love how the blue guitar stands out on the page.  I added a couple of background papers under the photo, in addition to a polaroid frame and filmstrip.

For my second layout, I used a piece of the burlap as a background for the photos of my dad and step-mom.  I popped up some stickers using foam dots.  For the tag, I used a piece of the burlap for the string.  It's a simple layout, but it documents what they love to do, and that's something I want to remember for years to come.

We have barely gotten started with our project inspiration. There is still plenty more to come. Here is what is next on the agenda.

January 2025 Challenge #4 Baby Use Those Scraps

Hello! Master Forger Christine here with our final challenge for the month of January.   We always like to finish out the month with the Scraps Challenge.  Use the scraps you've accumulated this month on your project.  I’m always impressed with what can be accomplished using just scraps!

One LAST reminder of our inspiration kit!

I had quite a few smaller scraps of paper plus a layout I had started and didn't complete.

I decided to layer all my pieces under my photo to make a colourful "mat" for my photo. I also added a strip of washi across the bottom to finish off a roll I had. Note the tag and punched edge I made from a tissue box in FOTF.

Master Forger Tina

I brought in scraps into my kit at the get go and that is what I used to create this layout using a hexagon punch for the border and a scrap to mat my photos too

January 2025 Challenge #1 New Years Resolutions

Hello hello!  It is time for our first challenge of the month!  As always, I’ll remind  you of our inspiration kit: Hip Kit’s “Good Things Ahead.”

It wouldn’t be a new year without New Year’s Resolutions.  This challenge is all about documenting the New Year and those resolutions or goals that most of us seem to set.    So the challenge is to create a layout documenting one or more of your goals for 2025!

Let's take a look at how our Guest Designer and Master Forgers took on the challenge.

Guest Designer Jennifer

I am not a typical resolution type person, but I set Scrapbooking goals every year. This year my goal is to scrapbook all these cute pictures I have of my nieces and nephew growing up. Since I hop all over the place and scrapbook what inspires me, this is doable for me. I created this baby kit to jump start it.

Today's layout is of my first great niece. She has a few layouts already but nothing documenting her birth. So I started with this cute first family photo. I used Photoplay, Heidi Swapp and thickers. It's a black and white photo cause that's how her mom posted it online. Check out my YouTube channel to see how it came together. https://youtu.be/uZUHYz9u5Pc?si=Gp-AshEDtwhg3XjI

Master Forger Tina

Tina scrapped about her 2nd set of goals for 2025 her Health Goals in this layout using her kit and bringing in the one theme paper to help enhance the story.

Master Forger Cindy created a few goals that she wants to accomplish this year.

This month is going to be such fun!  See you next time!

XOXO, Master Forger Christine

November 2024 Mini Kit and Project Reveal

Howdy, Howdy!  Master Forger Vikki here again and today we are talking about mini kits.  Are you short on scrappy time this month or do you just need to scrap a few photos?  Maybe you are a beginner scrapbooker? Then a mini kit may be for you.  A mini kit offers simplicity. It's perfect for beginners or those with limited time. It's also portable and budget friendly, allowing you to create a kit without have overwhelming choices. Two of our Master Forgers are going to show you how they build a mini kit and how they use them.

As a reminder, our inspiration kit for the month is Goldenrod by Traci Reed Designs.

Master Forger Julene

This is a long project. First starting with my mini kit 6 sheets of paper plus embellishments.

I didn't give it a name.

I used 4 paper bags from a chemist (drug store)

I covered both sides of the 4 bags with patterned paper.

and the other sides

Next, I folded each bag in half. I arranged them so there were alternate open and closed ends.
Stack them together. With the folds exactly even use a hole poker to make 4 holes or more.

I decided to stitch through with a darning needle and twine.
You now have a little book to decorate.
Here's my front cover.

  and my pages

The back cover is plain and the same patterned paper as the front. Here are my tags for the end pockets

I have left some pages blank for my daughter to add extra photos or extra journaling.
It took ages, days in fact!
My original instructions for paper bag albums are here.

Master Forger Tina

I'm known for my bigger kits so when I do a mini kit its got the same similarities.

I stayed with in the color scheme of the kit but went more in the direction of the plaids. I like choices in my kits so a few alphas that I'm trying to use up. I even found some Fall flair to play with in my stash for the kit. 11 full sheets of paper and some scraps too.

Made a double page layout using 2 full sheets of paper and 2 scraps a few embellishments too.

A walk one day in September 2023 along 445 by my apartment complex love to see nature when I can especially in the Fall as Winter is right around the corner.

One of the neighbor's Halloween display was so cool during that same walk.

Now, let's see what we have lined up for the rest of this month:

October 2024 Challenge #3 Get Sketchy

Welcome back for our third challenge of the month! This one's always a sketch challenge to help get your creative juice flowing!

As a reminder, here's our inspiration kit for the month, An Autumn Tale: Chilly Breeze

This is the sketch I chose to work with this month. Remember, a sketch is just a jumping off point, you don't have to follow it exactly, or you can do whatever works for you. Just have fun with it!

Master Forger Ryann is working on her son's Boy Scout Career scrapbook, as he has just achieved Eagle Scout.  This is a layout from one of his first award ceremonies when he was 6 years old.  The denim in the kit really worked with this layout!

Master Forger Tina is working on her 2023 photos and used a walk that she did in the Fall for her layout

Master Forger Julene created this beautiful layout based upon the sketch!
