November 2024 Challenge #3 Let's Get Sketchy

 Hello! Master Forger Vikki here with the third challenge of the month, our sketch challenge. Let's take a look at our inspiration kit, which is Goldenrod by Traci Reed Designs.

Here is the sketch I created for this month's challenge.  It's sure to get you into the fall mood.  Remember, a sketch is just a jumping off point.  You don't have to follow it exactly.  Turn one of the photos into a journal card or additional ephemera.  Do what works for you and the photos you have.

Let's take a look at how our  Master Forgers took on this challenge.

Too many photos for a single page sketch? Stretch it out! I took Vikki's design and stretched it across a two-page layout by adding a second block of photos! Instead of aligning the photos in the center on each page, I opted to shift them to the center of the layout for a more cohesive look.

Since our inspiration kit this month had some star, pumpkin and autumnal leaf papers, I used papers similar to create a ghostly Halloween layout. I didn't have 4 photos so I made a spooky night scene on the other space instead in place of a photo.

I also didn't have four photos for this layout, so I framed a 3x4 pocket card that came with the inspiration kit. I used pumpkins as embellishments to tie in those in the photos. I added images of the characters into the embellishment clusters.  This was a fun layout to create and came together quickly with the help of the sketch.

October 2024 Challenge #1 Favorite Fall Activity

 Hello! Welcome to our first challenge of the month! We'll be using this image from our inspiration kit,

                                                        An Autumn Tale : Chilly Breeze

  

                                                                                        

      For this month's challenge #1 to document your favorite fall activity. Guest designer Liz  

played along with us by scrapping a  fall sports photo. Here's what she had to say about her layout,

"I love JoJo's challenge of scrapping a Fall activity that you love to do. My husband and I really enjoy watching our kids participate in their high school sports activities. We both look forward to the Fall as that is when high school sports started up. This is a photo of our youngest after he competed in a Fall swim meet. Those days are over for us now that our children are grown ,but we love to look back at old photos and reminisce about those times."

                                                                            

     

Master Forger JoJo here and since Fall and October are my favorite season and month, I have plenty of favorite activities that we do, but I think my very favorite is to go to the corn maze on a cool fall afternoon. Here is my layout documenting a fun day at the corn maze. Where I live in Las Vegas ,Nevada we really do have a long fall, just a few short weeks, so I love to take a hour and 20 minute drive to Moapa Valley Corn Maze, close to the Utah border and spend a cool and breezy afternoon there, its just so refreshing after a long hot summer.

 

Master Forger Tara created a layout with her kit based upon the October 12 30 Days of Sketches for Day 12.  The sketch was created by Lisa Marie. Tara has a process video on her YouTube channel if you'd like to watch it.  She tells you how she adapted the sketch to fit her story and photos!

Master Forger Brandi played along by using the challenge theme as her title! "A Fall Favorite" - She's scrapping a lot of Fall farm/pumpkin patch photos this month, which happen to be a family favorite with two little boys!

September 2024 - Challenge #4 Baby, Use Those Scraps

 Welcome to the final challenge of September with the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog! As a reminder, our inspiration kit this month has been Daily Journal by Cocoa Daisy.

As always, we like to finish out the month with a use those scraps challenge! It's as simple as that: use any scraps from your kit this month on a new project! For me personally, I do this all month long, I am always trying to use up my scraps as I go! For my challenge-specific layout, I opted to use some paper strips and a tag die with some of the smaller pieces left in my kit! 

Master Forger JoJo made this layout of her youngest granddaughter using her scraps and a 1"3/4 square punch. She did some pen stitching to the squares and she even added 2 paper border branding strips and then embellished it.

September 2024 - Challenge #3 Let's Get Sketchy

 Welcome back for our third challenge of the month! This one's always a sketch challenge to help get your creative juice flowing! 

As a reminder, here's our inspiration kit for the month, Daily Journal by Cocoa Daisy. 

I created a brand-new sketch just to use with this kit this month! Here's the sketch to work with & I of course had to play along! For my layout, I added some texture paste and shimmery sprays to a pre-made Vicki Boutin background piece and I love how it turned out! 

I encourage you to get a little bit messy & creative with the background! Add texture! Have fun! 

Our Guest Designer Amy Jo played along with our sketch challenge and here's what she had to say: 

"I always have a hard time using these graphic background papers but decided to give it a try seeing the background of the sketch. 

For the flower clusters I used up a bunch of small leftover pieces of patterned papers from previous layouts this month…jumpstart on using up the scraps!!"

 

Master Forger Tara used some ink smooshing and stenciling with two shades of Distress Oxide ink for some fast mixed media. She let the black and white floral pattern on her patterned paper do most of the heavy lifting along with two chipboard frames and some ephemera from her kit. It made for a pretty fast but textural layout. 

Master Forger Vikki created this beautiful layout based upon the sketch!

September 2024 - Challenge #2 A Pop of Black

 It's time for our second challenge of the month! As a reminder, our inspiration kit for this month is Daily Journal by Cocoa Daisy.

The inspiration kit has a lot of black accents which I think look so striking against the bright colors. Do the same on your projects by using black as a subtle accent color! think photo mats, alphas, small embellishments, etc! 

I love using black as an accent color! I used a black frame for my layout, black mats on two of my photos and black alphas on this two-page spread! 

Let's see what the rest of the team came up with this week! 

Master Forger Julene used black flowers and butterflies on her layout. She also found a darkroom door filmstrip of flowers and use black for her matting. All these make the flowers in her bouquet pop.

Master Forger Ryann used an acetate from her stash and built from there.  She is working on an album from when she and her husband were dating.  She used a lot of different colors, and added some black stitching, title, and black and white leaves/flowers stickers that she colored in to pick up more of the color from the rest of the layout.

September 2024 - Challenge #1 "Summer Just Flew By"

 Hello! Welcome to our first challenge of the month! We'll be using this image from our inspiration kit, Daily Journal by Cocoa Daisy as our launching point for today's challenge! 

I don't know about the rest of you, but this summer really did FLY by! And for our area, we're finishing up the second week of school already! I'm sure we all still have plenty of summer left to scrapbook, so grab your kit and some summertime fun photos and let's get creating! (You don't HAVE to use Summer 2024 photos, I didn't!) 

For my layout, I used some photos of my guys enjoying a little playground trip back in 2022! 

I used the September "Freaky Fast Friday" formula from The Scrap Room as well for my layout design! 

Guest Designer Amy Jo played along with us by scrapping some summer hiking photos. Here's what she had to say about her layout: 

"We love going on hikes in the summer. These photos were taken at Lily Pad Lake near Silverthorne, Colorado. I added the red cardstock but used patterned paper, washi tape, Distress Mica Spray, and stickers from my kit."

MF Jody also used an older picture! Scrapping summer memories is the best! 

She had tons of Heidi Swapp's Sun Chaser collection in her September kit! The colorful popsicles and so much color!!

Master Forger Tina used some current photos from this Summer for her layout. Scrapping Summer memories is always fun to relive those memories. A day with my sister and a day not working is a holiday for her and this is where they went.

September 2024 - Just the Gist of It

 Hello, hello! Welcome back to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog for September 2024! 

As a reminder, our inspiration kit for the month is the Daily Journal Scrapbook kit from Cocoa Daisy.

For today, we're going to share with you a few ideas on how to approach pulling a kit from your stash! The most important thing to remember is there's no right or wrong way here, you do what works for YOU!

This kit features a lot of photography/camera embellishments, do you have a stash of filmstrips? Or pattern papers with cameras on them? There are several brands out there use cameras and film strips regularly in their products. This can serve as a great jumping off point, as scrapbookers, we ALL use photos! 

Another approach would be to look at the mood of the papers. There's a lot of bright colors, mixed in with black & white accents. The watercolor/distressed feel to some of the papers lends itself well to a lot of other popular manufacturers on the market (& possibly in your stash!) 

And finally, my preferred method, and how I pulled my kit this month, is to focus on color! I use an online color palette picker to pull out 4-5 colors to guide my kit building process. Here's what I used for September. 

For this month, I actually started with a theme after picking my colors... I knew I wanted to create a very boy-friendly kit to focus on some fun photos of my guys this month, so I started by pulling embellishments from my boy/masculine stash. I kept in mind the color scheme and grabbed a TON of goodies as seen here. 

And finally, I went for papers! I chose a lot of basic patterns and pre-made backgrounds. Life has been pretty crazy lately and with school starting this week, I know I will need easy & quick projects to keep me moving in my scrap space! Again, I used my color palette as my guide and made sure to include papers for each color!

September 2024 - Inspiration Kit Reveal & Social Media Hop

 Welcome to September 2024 on the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog! Master Forger Brandi here to guide us through another month of counterfeiting fun!

Our inspiration kit for the month will be the Daily Journal Scrapbook kit by Cocoa Daisy from September of 2023! I chose this kit for the color scheme as well as the theme of documenting memories - I love how versatile this is and can be easily adapted to fit any scrapbooker's needs! 

There are a lot of different add-ons offered by Cocoa Daisy so be sure to check out their website for further inspiration for this month! 

Now, I'd like to introduce our guest designer for the month, Amy Jo Johnston! Amy Jo is another regular on the A Cherry on Top message boards with me and she's also part of a few design teams I'm on! I was thrilled she said yes to playing along with us this month! Here's a little about her and what she had to say about why she loves the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog! 

"I have been scrapbooking off and on for 30 years and have collected A LOT of fun collections and supplies. I fell in love with the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog because it helps me create interesting combinations of my huge collection of patterned papers and pushes me to creatively use what I have rather than spend money on new items.
