Return of the Beaver

Beaver
Spring must be here. The man-made dam has not yet been fixed, so Lake Nelson is still a stream. This morning we spotted the beaver swimming up the stream. Perhaps he'll make a dam so we can enjoy the lake again.

Beaver again

Beaver

Our friend Elizabeth came over for dinner and to get a glimpse of the beavers. They were right on time, came out and swam around for a few minutes. We stayed out later than usual and the family came back to munch on the tree that had been knocked into the lake. The baby climbed onto the floating island to enjoy its branch.

Mother and Baby Beaver

Not the best picture, but you can see the size of the baby.

Baby Beaver on Lake Nelson

Beaver
Baby Beaver

Last night we saw a baby beaver swimming with its parent. It was too dark to get a photo with the DSLR. The beavers usually stick to a schedule, so tonight we were out at the same time with the older camera with a flash. The baby is really cute. Last night it ate some plants from our floating island planter. Tonight it nibbled on some leaves at the shore. It was curious about the flash camera and came closer for some photos.

There was a heron on the island for a few hours. We will post pictures when we have time.

Beaver on Lake Nelson

Beaver

Mike spotted this beaver early this morning. He may be bringing some branches to a nearby storm drain.

We were pleased to find the beaver dam this weekend and even more pleased to see one out of the water.

We were finally able to get the pedal boat out this morning and we saw some of our favorite creatures enjoying the sunny day. The beaver is smaller than the ones we've been seeing come by our dock. Perhaps he's one of this year's offspring.

The Beave

Beaver

Beavers have been nightly visitors. Mike put some fallen branches on the lake side of the fence. At dusk, two beavers came by for a snack.

Two Beavers

We know it's supposed to be a bird blog, but when out looking at the migrating blue winged teals this morning, a beaver came by, so we had to take some beaver pictures. Later this evening, a pair came by. Chris read that they like apples and we tried feeding apples in the evening, but they prefer bark.

Saw a beaver for the first time at a lake that I frequent daily (for TEN years no less !) swimming at dusk. What a happy fellow and what a thrill to see :)
