FIFA World Player Ronaldo dumps model girlfriend because she snubbed his mom's surprise 60th birthday party

Cristiano Ronaldo dumped his model girlfriend – after she apparently refused to attend a surprise birthday celebration for his mum.

The football superstar, 29, spent New Year’s Eve alone with his son when Irina Shayk decided not to attend the 60th birthday party, it was claimed today .

The couple rowed and the former Manchester United star – this week voted the best player in the world – decided to end his romance with the Russian beauty.

Her relationship with his mum Dolores Aveiro and sisters Elma and Katia was at the centre of tensions, according to reports in Portugal.

Oddities! Angry UK mother explains why she invoiced 5yr old for missing birthday party

A heated row between two mums over Facebook has revealed how a five-year-old ended up being invoiced for missing a birthday party. Derek Nash and Tanya Walsh were stunned when they found a bill for £15.95 inside their son's school bag.
Alex Nash (pictured with his dad), aged five, decided to go on an outing with his grandparents instead of taking up an invite to attend the friend's birthday bash at a snow centre. But delivery driver Derek was horrified when Alex came home with an invoice in a brown envelope from party host Julie Lawrence in his school bag last Thursday.

Where’s the party? Maple Leaf Flag turning 50

With the 50th birthday of Canada’s beloved Maple Leaf flag just a month away, some are wondering why there there’s been so little fanfare from the federal government.

Canadian Heritage says National Flag of Canada Day will be marked by educational activities and special events, including at the annual Winterlude festivities in Ottawa in the weeks to come.

The department also says community groups and schools are being encouraged to mark the anniversary throughout the year, although it didn’t immediately say how much it was spending on the flag’s birthday.

But the party-planning appears to pale in comparison to a multimillion-dollar effort to mark Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017, and $5.2 million that was spent to mark the bicentennial of the War of 1812.

OMG! TwentyFive Civilians Killed At Afghanistan Wedding Party

Afghan army mortars kill 25 civilians at wedding
At least 25 civilians were believed to have died in southern Afghanistan after shelling amid fierce fighting struck a wedding party, Afghan officials said on Thursday.

The attack occurred Wednesday evening in the Sangin district of Helmand Province, the site of some of the heaviest fighting in the country in the past year. Afghan officials said they had begun an investigation of the episode, which wounded more than 50 people, mostly women and children, The New York Times reports.

“We talked to A.N.A. command, but they are denying it,” Haji Mohammad Jan Rasolyaar, the deputy governor of Helmand, said, referring to the Afghan National Army. “That area is a front line, but the incident is an unfortunate one.”

Gunfire at a New Year's house party shattered the predawn quiet in a sleepy Calgary neighbourhood Thursday morning, leaving one person dead and six wounded.

"All I heard was like this 'pop, pop, pop, pop.' I was half asleep, half awake, and that's all I heard, and I didn't really know what it was so I just went back to sleep,'' said Nita Nestman, who lives in a condo on the same street.

Nestman said the street had been quiet for most of the evening. When she heard the noise she didn't expect it to be gunfire.

"I was like, 'What the heck is that noise? Tires popping?''' she said.

New Year's Update: Party Up At British Virgin Islands

The Associated Press
Revelers crowded New York’s Times Square and converged on the beaches of Brazil and skyscrapers of Dubai to say good riddance to a turbulent 2014 marred by terror woes, Ebola outbreaks and a horrific series of airline disasters.

But tragedy struck in Shanghai, Baghdad was on edge and protesters in the United States delivered a sobering reminder of one of the year’s biggest stories.

Thousands of partiers arrived on speedboats, yachts and ferries to dance the night away on the tiny Caribbean island of Jost Van Dyke that has long hosted one of the region’s biggest, most uninhibited New Year’s Eve bashes.
