Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose Wears 'I Can't Breathe' Shirt At NBA Game

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose warmed up for his game against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night wearing a T-shirt with the words "I can't breathe," paying tribute to Eric Garner, the unarmed black man killed by a police officer's chokehold in New York.

In a video of Garner's arrest for selling untaxed cigarettes, the 43-year-old can be heard repeating "I can't breathe" until his body goes limp. The phrase has become a rallying cry for those protesting abusive police tactics and how law enforcement treats black people.

A grand jury in Staten Island voted Wednesday not to indict New York City police officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death of Garner. The decision came the week after a grand jury decided to not indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for the killing of black 18-year-old Michael Brown.

This isn't the first instance of professional athletes using this form of protest. Last month, five St. Louis Rams players entered the field with their hands raised as a form of surrender. Some witnesses said Michael Brown had his hands up when shot, and the gesture, along with the phrase "Hands up, don't shoot," has been embraced by demonstrators nationwide.

Justice Canada Employees Duped En Masse by Fake Email Scam

Across the globe, an estimated 156 million of these so-called 'phishing' emails are sent daily, and anyone duped into clicking on the embedded web link risks transferring confidential information to criminals.
Many of the Justice Department's finest legal minds are falling prey to a garden-variety Internet scam.

An internal survey shows almost 2,000 staff were conned into clicking on a phoney "phishing" link in their email, raising questions about the security of sensitive information.

The department launched the mock scam in December as a security exercise, sending emails to 5,000 employees to test their ability to recognize cyber fraud.

The emails looked like genuine communications from government or financial institutions, and contained a link to a fake website that was also made to look like the real thing.

Across the globe, an estimated 156 million of these so-called "phishing" emails are sent daily, and anyone duped into clicking on the embedded web link risks transferring confidential information — such as online banking passwords — to criminals.

Canada joins crackdown on malware as arrests made worldwide

Authorities in 16 countries, including Canada, took part in a global crackdown on a sophisticated malware that lets cybercriminals take over a computer and hijack its webcam.

Charges were announced Monday against at least 97 people worldwide.

More than 350 properties were raided last week as part of the operation, including 15 in Quebec.

Police said they had arrested people suspected of using or distributing the malicious software called BlackShades.

Const. Philippe Gravel, an investigator with the RCMP’s Integrated Technological Crime Unit in Quebec, said he expected charges will be laid in Canada as well.

Gravel says police raided homes on May 13 and 14 in Montreal, Quebec City and elsewhere in the province after obtaining search warrants.

“We’ve searched the houses, we’ve seized computers and we’re still analyzing the data,” Gravel said. Gravel said he couldn’t comment on whether there would be further raids in Canada.

Oscar Pistorius trial: what we have learnt from the last seven days

Oscar Pistorius attends his trial at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on April 16 Photo: AFP
Oscar Pistorius denies the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp by shooting her through a locked lavatory door early on February 14 last year. He has said he believed she was an intruder and acted to protect himself and Steenkamp. The prosecution say he killed her deliberately after a row. The following is a summary of the last seven days of evidence:

    April 9th
    – Cross examination of Oscar Pistorius begins. Gerrie Nel, the state prosecutor, challenges him to "take responsibility" for killing Reeva Steenkamp, as a "sports hero" that people previously looked up to.

    – Gerrie Nel asks Pistorius if he has ever heard or said the term "zombie stopper" and the athlete says no. Mr Nel plays a video clip in court of Pistorius and friends at a firing range, shooting at a watermelon until it explodes. As his friends laugh, Pistorius says: "It's not as soft as brains but ---- it's a zombie stopper."

Critics say the charges reflected the tendency of the Pakistani police to lodge exaggerated complaints against poor families.
