Canada’s Miss Universe contestant found a way to stick out from the competition, quite literally, during Wednesday night’s national costume round.

In homage to her country’s national sport, Chanel Beckenlehner, 26, marched onstage in a bedazzled hockey uniform, complete with hockey sticks arranged in the likeness of peacock feathers.

The Caledon, Ont., native also wore knee-high skates and a skirt made of netting. A Stanley Cup was perched atop her massive white wig, while a scoreboard flashed behind her head.

Other over-the-top examples included Miss Great Britain’s Queen’s Guard outfit.

The contest, currently underway in Doral, Fla., will crown a winner Sunday night.

A town in Argentina has become the first in the country to ban beauty pageants, passing a new ruling which will see the annual contests replaced by awards for those who have contributed the most to their community.

Chivilcoy, a soya farming town of 60,000 people in Buenos Aires province, 100 miles east of the capital, passed the ruling unanimously.

"These beauty contests between girls, teenagers and young women reinforces the idea that women should only be valued and prized for their physical appearance," the text of the new ruling stated.
It said that the pageants, popular across South America, were based on "stereotypes, promoting in many cases an obsession with body shape and a physical ideal which can never be achieved."

The politicians who approved the ban added that such tournaments encouraged eating disorders such as bullemia and anorexia.

Miss World Beauty Pageant Scraps its Famous Portion of the Competition – Swimsuits!

BRITAIN-LIFESTYLE-MISS WORLD
The Miss World competition is changing the game. The famous pageantry will no longer feature one of its most famous portion of the competition, the swimsuit competition. This is definitely a major change in the 63 year history of the competition.

The organization’s chairwoman Julia Morley made the announcement recently. “The organization has decided to take itself out of the swimsuit world because it isn’t the path they’re trying to take. It’s not just a beauty contest, it’s ‘beauty with a purpose’. There didn’t seem to be a purpose to have the swimsuit.”

On December 14th, another African damsel Rolene Strauss of South Africa was crowned winner, making it the last time contestants will be seen in bikinis.

Three contestants of the 2015 Miss South Africa Pageant earlier shortlisted to partake in the beauty contest scheduled to take place March next year, have been disqualified for having visible tattoos.

The contestants, Kelly Davids, Altina Vries and Aseza Matanzima were disqualified by the pageant organizers for not indicating in their entry forms that they had tattoos.

Speaking on their disqualification, the pageant organizer, Claudia Henkel said that Kelly has a tattoo on the back of her neck which is visible when her hair is up, Altina has a tattoo across her left shoulder blade and behind one ear, while Aseza's tattoo runs across a rib and goes underneath her left arm.

Claudia said although Aseza had declared during her on-camera interview that she had a tattoo, she did not indicate that on her application form.
