9th of April, 30°C

Abnormal warm temperature in Verona at the beginning of april. The evening of the 9th was remarkably hot and the atmosphere in the city centre was unforgettable. Lots of people hangin out of bars and restaurants, crowded wine bars (Vinitaly fair was on so thousands of people came over from all over the world). I couldn't resist the Fiat 500 Giardinetta parked on the cobblestones...

Osteria Sottoriva's warm corner

Can you feel the warmth of the little Osteria Sottoriva? Wine choice is written on the chalkboard, followed by a firm rule of the place: tables are to be shared. The last line is about service: it's slow!

My favourite balcony

Among the many beautifully flowered balconies in the city centre, this is definitely my favourite!

Osteria Sottoriva

Osteria Sottoriva is the oldest osteria of Verona. Three hundred years of history, back when the water lapped right outside the door and the clients were mainly the boatmen that worked on the river Adige.
The menu is typical: pasta e fagioli, pastisada de caval with polenta, Monte Veronese cheese, local salumi, vegs soup. Hard eggs and fried polpette (meatballs) are at the bar where you can to stand and have a good glass of wine, like those men, probably regulars who come for the "goto", a little glass of white local wine. No booking, no coffee, no commercial drinks (coke, sprite, etc.). A handwritten note (see between the lamps) says: servizio lento, slow service!

I love this place!

Frames

On Via Sottoriva, a few steps from S. Anastasia Cathedral, there is this antiques shop. They have a variety of pieces, not luxury stuff, just very plain things. They specialize on wooden frames and occasionally they have paintings too. I was, in fact, captured by the painting and the print behind the window... I must go back and take a closer look...!
