Balcony

There are many beautiful balconies in the heart of Verona and ivy is one of the most popular plant to be seen on them. Some balconies are in full bloom, some are neglected...
There is a contest for the best balcony or windowsill. In september we will know the winner!

Tomorrow we'll be leaving for a few days... going back home to Monte Argentario, Tuscany. We will breath the salty water of the Tirrenian sea for a few days! I am arranging now the posts for the next few days, until monday. I hope you will have a BUONA PASQUA (Good Easter!) and I thank you for the comments you will leave. I'll be back soon!

The moon and the tower

A couple of weeks ago the full moon enlightened the dark sky.
Piazza Erbe was a hot spot that saturday night...

Red umbrellas

A few tourists on a rainy day. The weather has got slightly better today, still grey, though. This is Piazza del Mercato Vecchio (Old Market Square). To the left, behind the staircase of which you can see a little corner, there is the entrance to the elevator that brings you to the top of Torre de' Lamberti (well, almost: the last bit is on your legs!).

Torre de' Lamberti

This tower has been overlooking the heart of Verona for eight centuries; its construction dates back to 1172! The higher part, built in white marble hosts two huge bells which were mounted in 1295: the smaller one was used to alarm the population in case of fire; the bigger one was used to summon both the town council and the male population to fight in case the town was being attacked.

Today the tower is a much loved viewpoint and every day hundreds of tourists take a lift (although one can also mount the hundreds of steps...) to the top to admire the view, just above Piazza delle Erbe. I went up there two times and the view is just beautiful. Besides there are so many noticeable details to be spotted from such height... like the lovely, flowery, little terraces on the tiled rooftops, whose existence one cannot even imagine...

Where would you go if you want to see a view over your town?
