The obligatory snowman
Cycling past a man made mound at Ribby in Västerhaninge, that serves as a sound barrier, I realised that I was yet to photograph a snowman this Winter so I decided to sort that. I snapped this two days ago when we did have snow. Yesterday the temperature rose to 7C, and most of the snow melted away. Then, yesterday afternoon we had a very colorful sunset and someone pointed out that a storm were coming and it has been very windy ever since.

Runestone Sculpture
The unusual runestone/sculpture at Ribby Allé in Västerhaninge. It appeared mysteriously on the hill back in 2007. There are two inscriptions on the sculpture. Written in the runic alphabet. Translated to English one of them reads. Each and every one of us stands alone on the heart of the earth. A mobile phone through the body like an arrow, suddenly the batteries dies out. At the time no one knew who made it or what it all meant. Today I know the name of the the sculptor, it was made by the artist Torkel Dahlstedt.

A Tropical Garden
Back in September I told you about the new living concept Bovieran at Ribby in Västerhaninge. On that visit I took the photo with a zoom lens from faraway. This time I took the bike to the building site. A lot had happened since September. I wanted to see how the big indoor garden looked, and as you can see on the top photo they are busy working on the roof framing at the moment. This is the tenth Boviera in Sweden. All available apartments here are sold out, and they are already planning a second and third site in Haninge. I like the idea with all the different themed indoor gardens, especially on a cold day like this. If you look closely you can see a few workers climbing around the roof frame.

A New Way of Living
Not the Riviera. But the Bovieran. A play with words.Bo means Living in Swedish. It's a new concept. And it is being built in Ribby in Västerhaninge at the moment. Three buildings with 48 apartments. Built in the shape of a horse shoe. Three stories high. Nothing special there, but then there's the huge glassed-in garden with different themes. Including a Mediterranean garden. A Japanese garden, a Scandinavian garden, and one tropical garden. Perfect for Scandinavian people who are tired of the long Winters. The garden is the heart of the concept. It is where you meet your friends and where you can play boule or just relax together. There's ponds and citrus trees, palm trees and olive trees. And you walk directly from your apartment to the garden. All apartment here are already sold. More facts in Swedish here.

Bike Ride Cancelled
The sports fanatic has decided that it is time for a bike ride. He hasn't used the bike since mid December, when the first snow fell, and is now very eager to jump up on the bike again. He has planned the route in his head and is feeling very joyful as he puts on his bike gear. It takes the happy sports fanatic a few minutes to dress. To stay warm in the cold weather he uses wool socks, long underwear, and over that, the expensive Gore-Tex cycling pants. On his upper body he puts on a polyester T-shirt, a fleece west, and a very colorful and warm jacket. After putting on the knitted cap (it was a gift from his mother), he puts on his helmet. Finally he reaches for the waterproof boots, and after putting them on he walks out the door while fitting the Pearl Izumi’s Aqua-Not gloves on his hands. Now our sports fanatic is ready to go. The bike has been stored in the cellar, but the sports fanatic can't seem to locate it, so he takes off his cool eyeglasses to see better, but the bike is nowhere to be found. Then it hits him, he parked the bicycle out the back. He runs up the stairs, opens the door and there it is. Buried in ice and snow! He realises that it would take forever to dig out the bike. Slowly, the now very tired looking sports fanatic walks up the stairs and goes back into his apartment...

Apartment Fire
There was a fire in an apartment at Ribby in Västerhaninge today. I was in the area when the fire and rescue services arrived. They had to knock down the door to the apartment on the third floor. A little later a fire fighter opened the balcony door and you could see a lot of smoke come out. I talked to some of the concerned neighbours. It looks like the owners were staying in a camper at a local beach. They have a daughter but I don't think anyone was home. Will try to find out more later.

Ribby
Located in what can be described as a little park, this is what's left of the village known as Ribby in Västerhaninge The yellow mansion is around 200 years old but Ribby dates back some 700 years. The red buildings are a milk barn and a building where the farmer used to store food and clothing. A previous owner, a doctor, was friends with Carl von Linné and one of his students, Daniel Henrik Söderberg wrote a book here. Back then there was a big garden in the area. If you continue down the Blåkulla Road you will find this rune stone from the Viking era. Bigger photo.
