Nynäsbanan

Nynäsbanan
Time flies and all that. The railway line Nynäsbanan was the reason my family moved here 120 years ago to set up two greenhouse nurseries. Back then, it was just one track. The bridge in the background is the Krigslida bridge. I remember photographing it during the construction. Just as I did with the pedestrian bridge to nowhere. From where I took this photo.

The first sunbathers

The first sunbathers
Four girls sunbathing at the beach at Nickstabadet in Nyäshamn. I arrived at the beach after a 30km bike ride on what was a really fine May day. It was the same day as I took all the photos of cyclists. After snapping this I rode down to the dive tower where there is a big bench, it was a bit too crowded so I sat down nearby and ate a light lunch. No one was swimming in the sea but I noticed a few people out in a dingy. After enjoying the sunshine for a while while reloading my batteries I continued my bike ride down to the harbor, I showed you those photos two days ago.

Asphalt Paver

Asphalt Paver
I can't remember how much work has been done do the commuter station in Tungelsta over the last decade, but it is a lot. And I have been trying my best to document that and other rail-road-related work in a photo album called Nynäsbanan, which is the name of the railway line between Stockholm and Nynäshamn. But it now looks like they are finishing up here. Took this photo a few days ago when the workers were busy paving the road in front of the station, and also fixing a new parking area. So if you enjoy construction photos have a look at the Nynäsbanan slideshow.

Commuter Station Remodelling

The Commuter Station
The remodelling of the Tungelsta commuter station continues. Still a few things to do before they are done, but it's getting there. This is how the entrance to the tunnel looks from the "Lillgården" side at the moment. You have been able to bike through it for a few weeks now although there's still some work left on the walkway that leads to the tunnel. I took the photo with the 6D using the nifty fifty lens just as the commuter train left the station heading for the Hemfosa platform.

Old&New

Old & New
The Century old station house in Tungelsta reflected in the new addition to the commuter platform, built this Summer. Traffic started again this week, but it will be a while longer until everything is finished.

The new commuter station

The Commuter Station
No traffic on the Nynäsbanan railway line between Västerhaninge and Nynäshamn this Summer. Which means that the construction of the new commuter station in Tungelsta, and the laying of the second rail track between Tungelsta and Hemfosa have picked up some speed. This was how the platform looked yesterday. Press here to see how it will look when they are done. The old Station House dates back a century, the last station master still lives there with his wife in an apartment on the second floor. The first floor is occupied by Handlaget. The green building serves beer and pizza, before that it was a convenient store.

Along the railway-track

The Commuter
I took a walk on what will soon be the new rail-track between Tungelsta and Hemfosa along the Nynäsbanan yesterday. It's the century old railway line between Stockholm ant the port city Nynäshamn. This is between two old railroad X-ings that soon will close, just south of the Tungelsta station. The overhead lines to the left weren't here on my last photo walk so the construction is going forward every day. Oh, and if you are interested in these types of snaps feel free to have a look in my photo set about work on the Nynäsbanan over the last few years.

Lokatt

Lokatt Caterpillar Excavator
Spotted a Lynx on my walk the other day. Or at least an artwork depicting a "Lodjur", as we like to call the cat in Swedish. It sits on a caterpillar excavator currently being used on the work on the new railtrack south of the Tungelsta commuter station.

Crushed stone

Bergkross Bolt and frost
I took another winter promenade along the work road next to the railway track Nynäsbanan south of the Tungelsta station this weekend. Crushed stone where the second rail-track will be built. The second photo of the bolt shows how cold it was (-10C).

Railway line

Nynäsbanan
Just south of the Tungelsta commuter station this is the xing at Karlsrovägen on the railway line Nynäsbanan. I am standing on where the new (second), rail-track will be built. I waited around for a few minutes here, hoping to get a photo with the commuter as that would make for a good photo, but it was too cold to stand around, but just a few minutes later the commuter passed me.

No Service

Perrong
The commuter station in Tungelsta will get a face lift, again. The train service to Stockholm and Nynäshamn stopped one week ago and this is how the platform looks today. When they are done it will look very different compared with today. Illustration here.

Work begins on the Tungelsta commuter station

Construction Site
The commuter station in Tungelsta has been a busy building site in the last few years with a new bridge, a second rail-track to Västerhaninge, and before that the platform was rebuilt (made longer) to fit two long commuter trains. And now it is time again. And you will probably not recognise it when it is finished. An underpass will be constructed along with big stairs so that you can access the platform from two directions. The last remaining crossings will be closed and replaced with tunnels or new roads. all that will remain is the century old stationhouse.

The benefits of working outdoors

The benefits of working outdoors If you know any real benefits, please, let me know! These guys were busy fixing a fence at the new noise barrier that was built near the commuter station in Tungelsta last year.

Infranord Inspection Car

Infranord Inspection Car Infranord claim to be the leading railway contractor in the country. For the last couple of years they have been busy constructing a second rail-track between Tungelsta and Västerhaninge. Traffic will start on both tracks on the third of December. Seen here is an inspection car from Infranord, shot from the newish bridge crossing the railtrack at the Tungelsta commuter station.

Tungelsta Commuter Station

The Station House The Commuter Sometimes if the weather is crap I will go for a photo promenade around Tungelsta. And during the last three days the weather in question has been just that. Awful. It was warmer actually during Christmas last year compared to this weekend. Yesterday during the Stockhom Marathon it was the coldest summer day for nearly ninety years. Anyway this might be a familiar view to some of the readers. This is the Tungelsta commuter station. The commuter from Stockholm has just arrived. The panorama is made from ten photos. If you want to you can see the original size if you press here.

Scaffolding

IMG_5585

As you probably know I enjoy documenting changes, be it in nature or places. These photos show the progress of the bridge currently being built at the Krigslida railway crossing. At the moment it is a lot of scaffolding everywhere, but come the summer this will be a concrete bridge. The length will be 170 meters. I believe that the official name in The Mulsta Bridge. But my pick would have been the Krigslida Bridge, because Krigslida is the name of the commuter station. Two other possible names would be the Håga Bridge, or my favorite, the Nödesta Bridge because the bridge stretches between those two places. Nödesta being the old name of the 700 year old farm here and I actually shot these photos from a field that used to belong to the farm, and only a year or so ago this was a blooming canola field. I have added a flickr tag to the photos of this bridge, so if you press here you can see all my bridge photos as I shoot them.

Krigslida Commuter Station

Waiting at the Boom Barrier

Krigslida Commuter Station

Here is the answer to yesterdays question. This is the Krigslida Commuter Station along the Nynäsbanan railway line. Traffic got under way this morning. Seven weeks ago this was just a messy construction site. The old platform had been removed as had all the rail. The new platform has been moved a little to the south. The reason for all this is that a second rail-track is planned between Västerhaninge and Tungelsta. Work on that has been going on for a few years now mostly during the summer when traffic has been stopped. I have previously showed you a few new bridges and roads in the area. At the moment there's only one rail-track here, but all the preparations for the second track are done and it will be built come the spring, some time in April.

A truck on the railtrack

A truck on the railtrack

I heard on the radio just now that there was no commuter trains running between Nynäshamn and Västerhaninge. This is probably one reason. A Volvo truck from Infranord at the Krigslida level crossing on the Nynäsbanan railtrack. I had to wait for several minutes as two of the workers tried to manually lift the barriers. There are lots of work going on here now as a new railtrack is being built between Tungelsta and Västerhaninge.

At the Station

The Station

The new X60 commuter train at the Tungelsta station. Waiting for the train from Västerhaninge to arrive to the platform where the train meets as there's still only one railway track between Västerhaninge and Nynäshamn after more than a a century with the Nynäsbanan railway line. The station house is as old as the railway line and has been there since 1902.
