Koltrast

This Common blackbird was sitting outside my veranda yesterday. It is tough times for the birds when it is as cold and snowy as it is now. -10C as I am typing this. I am all out of bird seeds so I guess I need to fix that.

Gulsparv

5C from a gray sky when I jumped off the bike at the big cemetery in Österhaninge. It is surrounded by forests on all sides so I decided to gor a walk in said forest and that's where I spotted this Yellowhammer.

The not so ugly duckling

She is a bit of a celebrity this white Mallard. I have seen a few photos of her this last Winter. She hangs out with the other ducks at the nature park Slätmossen in Handen.

Bofink

Coffee and a waffle in the Spring sunshine at Lövhagen in Nynäshamn a few days ago. This "bofink" flew in for his treat and looked happy enough with it's seeds.

Up a tree

The birds are back. I'm starting to hear them sing here and there, which is a good sign. And the sun is shining again. You can actually feel the sun-rays on your face if you sit outside in the 3C temperature which I did today while rereading a Haruki Murakami novel.

Grumpy Bird

This grumpy bird (Juvenile White wagtail),spends it's day complaining to it's hard working parents that the lack of food is a big problem. And when that doesn't seem to help it will try to stare anyone down as seen here. It had some success on this occasion as it was given both cheese, healthy bread and cake crumbs. As seen from a chair at my favorite cafe Malmens konditori in Handen.

Juvenile Coot

I'm sure this juvenile coot's mother thinks it's cute. As seen in the Slätmossen nature park in Handen yesterday. We call this bird Sothöna.

Do Not Disturb

Out walking in a forested area in Jordbro recently I suddenly heard a bird chirping, it sounded a bit like a warning. Took me a while to track the sound down but then behind a few thick branches I found her. A female fieldfare brooding in it's nest built on a tree stump. I didn't want to disturb her so I took a quick photo and walked away. A few days later I checked up on her again and took this photo with the new Canon 6D with the nifty fifty lens. I'm hoping there will be more family members present on my next visit!

Bird Song

This is Knut. He is a colorful little Bofink. You might know him as a Chaffinch. He is a really good singer and as I took this snap with the silent zoom lens he gave me a performance.

Just one more seed

The Domherre (Bullfinch),was back for more seeds this morning.

Bullfinch

Very cold here at the moment with -12C, and even colder weather tomorrow if the meteorologist is correct, they are predicting -21C. Not good news for the birds that hang around my bird feeder. This is a Domherre, or Bullfinch.It was enjoying some seeds at the veranda yesterday when I snapped this photo with the silent zoom lens.

Yellow iris

This gray heron was standing on one of the piers at Lower Lake Rudan (Nedre Rudasjön), minding it's own business when I arrived to the nature reserve a while back. It didn't seem to bothered as I closed in, but when I came a little too close it stepped off the pier and into the lake so that I would get a good photo of it. Which was nice.

Hawk Up The Dead Tree

On my way to the old tree yesterday I spotted this hawk up a dead tree.

Got Any Bread Crumbs?

I was busy in the kitchen doing the dishes just now when I noticed a movement in the back garden. It was a blue tit (Blåmes), landing on a tree branch. It sat there for a while trying it's best to make me toss out some bread crumbs. Instead I fetched the camera.

Headless Barnacle Goose

Headless goose heading South for the Winter. Making a pit-stop at the Rudan nature reserve in Handen.

Goldfinch

Out bird spotting. This is a Goldfinch. We know it as a Steglits in Swedish. This bird might be migrating to the Mediterranean, but some do stay here for the Winter.

Woody

Birdman was sitting on a bench along the bike path in Jordbro on Saturday afternoon so I stopped for a chat when I noticed him from the bike. He then spotted a woodpecker up a tree, and I decided to try and zoom in on the bird with the Tamron lens. The bird took off a few seconds after I had shot this photo, with that pine cone it is eyeing here secured in it's beak.

Who's a pretty boy then?

Say hello to Jacko. He is a very good looking White Cockatoo. I met him and his human outside the Brandbergen mall a couple of days ago. Jacko didn't say much, but he did like the attention he got. He was sitting on the shopping cart so I'm guessing that he was going shopping for seeds and fruits with his human.
