Rapsfält

Rapsfält
A blooming canola field. Photographed from the bike path at Nedersta yesterday afternoon. Belongs to the Nedersta Gård that dates back around 700 years. You have met the current farmer here on the blog a number of years ago, and I have shown you countless views from the farm. Oh, and the bridge to the right is Krigslidabron.

Snörom

Snurrom Offering Stone
Today a little horse farm at the end of the road. Before that a "torp", cottage that belonged to the bigger estate Solberga in Österhaninge. First mentioned around 1730. The name Snörom is said to come from the fact that the old road that passes by close to the house made an acute turn here. Since around 1950 the property belongs to the Åkerblom family. The "offering stone" sits on top of the nearby hill. If it in fact is an cup and ring mark, I don't really know, but I have met a few people that say so.

Farm Animals

Griseknoen Portrait of Pig Moo!
I had to say hello to some of the farm animals while visiting the Berga Agricultural College over the weekend. Griseknoen in the top photo got me thinking about the movie I watched as a kid. Emil and the piglet, based on books by Astrid Lindgren.

Abandoned car

Abandoned
The Mellanberg farm in Handen was bought by the municipality recently. By then it had been closed for many years, but the last owner still lived at the farm. The farm dates back to around 1770 and has had a lot of inhabitants during the last two hundred years. If you understand the local lingo you can read an article about those people at Haninge.org. I am not sure what will happen to all the old buildings now so I have decided to photograph them whenever I am in the area so that is what I did yesterday I found this old car behind the big barn. I have an album with Mellanberg photos at flickr and I will add more photos there in the days to come.

Vit Kattost

Whateveritis Malva field
I titled the top photo whateveritis when I posted it on flickr. But if my flickr friend Marcus is correct, this is Vit Kattost. Malva pusilla Sm. Small mallow in English, but the Swedish name wins because if you direct translate it back to English it means Tiny Cat Cheese. Anyway it is on the endangered list so it is a good thing that the farmer at the Nödesta farm, Janne decided to raise the crop here in front of the smithy that I show you every now and then. And no I don't know if the crop is useful at all.

Ye Olde Farm Building

Ye Olde Farm Building
Five months in on this project now. A very wintery scene this time. A bit different from the December photo. You are looking at an old warehouse at the Välsta horse farm in Tungelsta. I'm taking one photo here every month for one year.

Autumn Equinox

Ye Old Farm Building
Höstdagjämningen happened earlier today. Hösten/Fall/Autumn is officially here. The colors are changing quickly now. The temperature have dropped significantly. Stockholm got a new rain record earlier in the week. It is very windy most days. The mornings are cold as are the evenings, and it's getting darker earlier and earlier. But come Thursday the warm weather is said to be returning again. At least for a few days. Hurrah! Today's photo shows an old warehouse at the Välsta farm. Many years ago before I even started the That Old Tree project I had this view in mind for a weekly photo project. It never happened, but I have taken one or two photos here over the last few years. And who knows, this might be the start of a new monthly series.

A snowy walk

The Stable
Two weeks on and I still feel the effects from that Russian virus that the brother brought back with him from Russia. So I haven't been out much with the camera for a while. Vårdagjämningen (vernal equinox), will happen later today, but it doesn't really feel very Spring like today. This photo shows the red stable at the Nödesta farm, shot as I made my way towards the old tree during yesterdays snow fall.

The old smithy

Winter-Midday-Light

I just realised that I have published nearly 30 photos of the old smithy at the Nödesta farm. So I guess it's time to make a set of all those photos. I shot this latest photo a couple of days ago. The building was not just a smithy, day laborers also lived here, and there was a laundry in the basement. Today it is used as a warehouse.

Misty Morning

The Cottage
Time for another look at the cottage. I have shown it to you before as it is one of the places at the Nödesta farm in Nedersta that I try to document from time to time. I always try to get a different composition and was helped here by Autumn leaves and morning mist.

The Stable

The Stable
Since the collapse of the old barn, and the removal of the abandoned farm house there are a couple of buildings left at the Nödesta farm that I try to photograph every now and then. This is the little Falu-red painted stable. To see more photos from here try the Nödesta tag.

National Park Living

National Park Living
The Tyresta Farm A winter visit to Tyresta. To the right the Jansson Farm house at the old village in the National Park. This is where the caretaker of the farm usually lives. The last caretaker was Göran Egerhamn. He had been working on a new museum but last I heard there had been some controversy regarding the museum and Egerhamn is no longer around. Second photo shows the farm and surrounding buildings. To see a very large version of the panorama press here and wait for the photo to load.

Decaying Farm Buildings

Barn Shooter The Barn Always a bit sad to see abandoned farms where the buildings are slowly decaying. This is a former dairy farm and laundry business in Handen. Known as Mellanberg. A few hundred years ago there was only a small cottage here where different handymen lived over the years. Later the land was owned by the large estate Söderby. A farmer then bought Mellanberg in the 1920s. He built a farm house,a big barn and a number of other buildings. Up until the 1940s you could buy fresh milk directly from the farmer. Not sure when the dairy farm closed, but the laundry was closed in 1976. The municipality wants to save Mellanberg as it shows a lot about local history. The photographer in the photo is my buddy Jim.

Moo!

Moo! Portrait of a Cow Are You Looking For Trouble... eye of a heifer These heifers live at one of the smallest farms I have ever visited. It is called Haga and you will find it in Tungelsta. On this my most recent visit on one of those beautiful early summer days the cows were busy eating grass when I arrived to the pasture. At first they were a bit shy, but after a minute or so they decided that I was friendly and came running towards me.
