Political Correctness Means SHUT THE HELL UP, HATER.

A blogger who shall remain nameless (but has moved on to bigger and better things...) sent this in.

Billboard With University’s Fight Song Covered Up After Words Called Sexist
The University of Missouri recently covered up a large sports advertisement that paid homage to its fight song after a progressive female Democrat politician complained it was sexist and condoned a culture of violence against women.

Earlier this month, the school displayed a large trailer with the message “Every True Son Goes to Mizzou” plastered on its side, along with its tiger mascot and the message: “For Tickets Call 1-800-Cat-Paws.”
Of course, this message is sexist - according to the Perpetually Offended. But it gets better. Not only is this message sexist, but it contributes to the "culture of violence against women" like the loonie at UCSB. According to this one state senator loon who has a penchant for making outrageous statements to get press time. Hence why I refuse to name her.

If anything, I would argue, it's BS like that that helped set the stage for what happened at UCSB. It's the attempt at cradle-to-grave coddling, the concept that everyone should live their lives completely insulated from anything resembling failure, that it is the job of the government to make everything "fair", as though that were even possible. When everyone gets a trophy just for showing up, what happens when you eventually don't get a trophy?

So they covered the billboard, and changed the song, and in the end kicked the problem down the road a few years. At some point, there's going to be a price for all this kowtowing and whatnot, when people finally get sick of the tiptoeing around the Perpetually Offended and the pendulum swings the other way. It won't be pretty, or good, but it certainly shouldn't be unexpected.

And then the Perpetually Offended will have a whole new level of things to be offended about...

That is all.

Yale student claims university threatened to suspend her if she didn’t gain weight
A student at Yale University said she was faced with an unusual college dilemma for the past few months: gain weight or leave school.

According to a report in the New Haven Register, Frances Chan said she has been stuffing herself with ice cream and Cheetos, after doctors at Yale’s health center allegedly said she was too thin and needed to gain weight. At 5’2”, Chan weighs just 92 lbs, but she argued that she’s always been very skinny – just like her parents and grandparents were at her age.
Now, yeah, 5'2" and 92 is on the skinny side, to be sure. I'm shocked, though, that a medical facility would make such a pronouncement - that she was "dangerously" underweight - and put her through such grief. And then to just magically find another doctor who *POOF* makes everything all better? I'm guessing there's more to this story - like someone looking for their 15 minutes of fame.

At least, I'd like to think that, because it's vastly preferable to the alternative. Here we have a student at Yale, one of the premier colleges in the US, who accepts, blindly, the University's proclamation that she needs to gain weight based on one medical exam? There's no mention of any independent testing, so it doesn't sound like she went to her own doctor or even another practice in the area. I'd like to think that one of the "best and brightest" would do more than just blindly follow what the college told her for six months, even though she knew they were wrong.

On the other hand, I'd like to think that Yale, that premier college mentioned in the last paragraph, would be better than simply reading one number and running a play from the book of zero tolerance. Height = X. Weight = Y. BMI = ZOMG EATING DISORDER. You'd think they
would be capable of thinking outside the narrow equation - perhaps a note from this woman's family doctor? This can't possibly be the first time someone noticed that she weighed a lot less than the average.

Then again, nothing would surprise me much any more...

That is all.

More Fun With Zero Tolerance!

Girl, 9, barred from school for shaving head to support friend with cancer
A 9-year-old Colorado girl was kept out of school on Monday after shaving her head to support a friend battling cancer.

KDVR.com reports that officials at Caprock Academy in Grand Junction told the student, Kamryn, she couldn't come back to class without a wig or until her natural hair grew back because her shaved head violates the school's dress code.
The academy has a dress code which states no shaved heads. Now, I'm going to assume here that this is a K-12 private academy and the rule was aimed at the high school-aged kids, but the sheer dumbassery involved in the decision to suspend a 9 year old girl for shaving her head in support of a friend with cancer just takes zero tolerance BS to a new level. I mean, it's one thing to suspend a kid because he had a knife in his car - dumb as *that* may be - but for a shaved head?

Then again, I may be a little biased...

I'd love to see a whole bunch of parents shave their heads in protest of this idiotic decision, but I don't see it happening. I do hope that story after story of these moronic "zero tolerance" policies starts to get at least someone thinking about scrapping them. It seems like they create far more problems than they solve - because very few issues truly are "one size fits all." Even in the ones you think would be a slam-dunk - like, say, immediate suspension for drugs in school - becomes significantly more (to borrow a term from our Secretary of State) nuanced when the definition of "drug" is stretched to "over-the-counter pain medications like Tylenol." It's easy to boot a kid for having a couple ounces of weed, but a trial size Tylenol bottle?

Zero Tolerance: It's Easier Than Thinking!

That is all.
