Shoulda Lit A Candle....

Oh, the Bradys are going to hate the story reader Kevin just sent in...

Girl, 15, wards off burglars
TEXAS CITY — A 15-year-old-girl turned the tables on a pair of intruders early Saturday afternoon.

At 12:52 p.m., Texas City police received a call from the girl saying there was somebody trying to get into her house in the 7300 block of Meadowlark.
OMG! A child got her hands on a firearm! That gun wasn't safely stored! She could have gotten hurt! The Brady bunch would have you believe that she would have been better to have had the gun locked away out of sight where she couldn't get to it in time than run the risk she might use it irresponsibly. They'd rather that young woman cower in a closet and hope the men don't find her than for her to have the best tools available for being safe. They'd rather she learn to vomit on cue to discourage rapists, as well...

No, I think the outcome in this story was much better than anything the Bradys could ever propose...

That is all.

Everyone Loves A Feel-Good Story...

Girl loads rifle to spook burglars
ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - When three teenage burglars pried open the door of a northwest Albuquerque home they had no idea they would be met by a brave little girl, police said Wednesday.

Alyssa Gutierrez, 11, took matters into her own hands Tuesday when police said when Miguel Marquez, Eduardo Zubiate and Jesus Quintana broke into her home.

Gutierrez armed herself with a loaded rifle.

Yes! Something tells me that Alyssa's not going to have any problems with abusive boyfriends or being pressured into doing anything she doesn't want to as she gets older, either. While significantly outnumbered, she had the presence of mind to retrieve the rifle, make sure it was loaded, and find a defensible position - with a pink Crickett! That is just the most awesome part of the whole story (especially since: a) she didn't have to use it; and b) a single-shot bolt action .22LR is not my first choice of defensive arm - but in this case it totally worked!)

Now if someone could just work with Ms. Gutierrez to correct the Rule 2 violation in the linked video...

That is all.
