Creative New Fabrics by Mark Lipinski

Look at these new fabrics in the Chester Garden series for Northcott by Mark Lipinski on eQuilter. You can see all 49 fabrics right there. I really like these elegant swirls, toile-style drawings, birds, little vines, circular designs...They have a new look, but they also have a vintage feel. Beautiful job, Mark!

Selvage Sofa in New Jersey!

Yes, this is Jill Bunis' yellow Selvage Room in New Jersey! That's what I call it anyway. She recently made these two big selvage cushions to add to the day bed that already had her selvage quilt on it. You can see more of this room on her blog: http://www.cre8fmomquilts.blogspot.com/ including the window cornices done, of course, in selvages. The b/w fabric is Mark Lipinski's Califon line. Nice job, Jill!

I like the way Jill features bits of her prints, especially the fortune cookies and the rows of geometric patterns. See the button print below (at the bottom of the photo).

Urban Inspirations Quilt Show - Part 4

Here it is again, my "Red Zinger" selvage quilt! I just want to make sure everyone sees a selvage quilt. That's one of my missions. It's surprising how many men stop and take a good look at it. And yes I did wear my selvage vest. It was wonderful to meet so many selvage quilters!!

I also brought the fan quilt (above). I called it "Firing on All Cylinders."

I made a bunch of mini quilt cabinets and pin cushions for the Boutique.

My favorite vendor was there: Pat Yamin of "Come Quilt With Me." She brought a big supply of templates that can be used to make one-patch quilts (like in her book), or whatever you like. I got an "Ice Cream Cone" template set. It looks like a thousand pyramids, but with one curved side. She also had fabrics, patterns, tools and a beautiful display. I took a photo of her selvage Tumbler quilt. (above) She'll be at Quilt Pacific coming up soon. Check out her website at: http://www.comequiltwithme.com/.

The big prize ribbons were made using Mark Lipinski's Katmandu fabric, embellished with embroidery and beads. Very pretty.

New "Quilter's Home" Features Red Zinger Selvage Quilt!

The new Sept/Oct issue is hot off the presses! It's full of good stuff, but take a look at page 48 first. It's my "Red Zinger" selvage quilt!

When Mark Lipinski spoke to the Empire Quilters, he said he didn't like it when quilt magazines "dumbed down" the quilt patterns. So, when he asked me to make a quilt and a pattern for his magazine, I pulled out all the stops. I challenged myself to come up with something above and beyond what I had already done. This quilt isn't hard to make, it just looks like it! That's because there is a bit of an optical illusion.

Take a look. If you make your version of this quilt, email a photo to this blog at karengriska@selvagequilts.com. Or maybe you will take it to the next level!

Mark Lipinski Visits Empire Quilters in NYC

Posted by PicasaI wanted to show you the whole "Selvage Basket" quilt that the Charm Girls are holding in a previous post (scroll down to July posts). This is the quilt that I gave to Mark Lipinski of Quilter's Home magazine.

Yes, I know he visited our guild back in January, but I really like that photo and I wanted to post it to this new blog. So here it is, out of sequence, but part of selvage quilt history:)

Mark certainly is a source of energy, encouragement and humor in the quilting world!

Charm Girls Guild, Doylestown, PA

These are my dear quilting friends. If you are a hermit quilter like I was for years, consider joining or starting a small quilting group. We meet once a month to share what we are doing in our quilting, tell about discoveries of good quilt books, fabrics, methods, shows, etc., and have some good laughs. Then we have tea and goodies. This has been going on for about 4 years. Perfect every time:)

Left to right: Helen Wolf, Linda Eichhorn, Ellen Johnson, Stephanie Berk, and Barbara Harrison (seated). In this photo they are holding one of my selvage quilts, a large basket block set on point. This quilt is now in the collection of Mark Lipinski of Quilter's Home magazine. No, he didn't buy it at a Sotheby's auction, I gave it to him! (He wrote the hilarious foreword to my book "Quilts from the Selvage Edge.")
