The Jim Mitchells & Friends

We just now discovered Sydney band The Jim Mitchells over at Little Indie Blogs, did a little more digging, found three free and legal downloadables at triple j unearthed, and want to post them before shutting down for some shuteye.

You can read more about them at triple j unearthed and Facebook, but we wanted to mention that after already being hooked, we noticed they cite as influences The Beatles, Ty Segall, White Fence, and the band formerly known as Thee Oh Sees (now simply yclept Oh Sees). So in addition to great sounds, they've got great taste.

First up is their recently released single, "Ankle Deep," the one we found at LIB.

Next we have two songs from their 2016 EP, Planet Absorbed. (Hear the whole EP, plus much more at SoundCloud.)

Here's the highly entertaining video of "Ankle Deep," our first introduction to the band.

Now, what about their friends (or perhaps should we say, "influences?")? Although you'll have to pay for it (which we gladly did), here's our favorite from Ty Segall's new EP, Fried Shallots, followed by the whole caboodle, available at Bandcamp.

You've maybe heard of British band, "The Beatles?" They're new to us, but we've been learning a ton about them via the superb podcasts by Robert Rodriguez and Richard Buskin over at Something About The Beatles

For Oh Sees, we send you to perhaps their most devoted fan in this particular universe, M. Thibault over at Still in Rock.

And finally, there's no way we're mentioning White Fence without posting our favorite song by one of our very favorite bands of the last several years.

CFM, aka Charles Francis Moothart - The Stooge

Charles Moothart, bandmate of  Mikal Cronin (Moonhearts and Cronin solo LPs), Ty Segall (FuzzGØGGS, Ty Segall Band), and head head in the band CFM, has just released a single from his forthcoming EP. Homegrown Paranoia is set to drop in November via In The Red Records. Needless to say, it rawks. Listen below and if you like, head over to Still in Rock for further enlightenment.

Here's one of the collaborations we pointed you towards many moons ago. (Heads should appear once you click the play arrow.)

Hail, White Fence, & All Thy Works!

Tim 'n' Ty

We try not to play favorites here at Powerpopulist, but . . . wait, what a crock, as that's all we do play here at Powerpopulist. Let us begin anew.

In case we haven't made it fairly clear, White Fence are one of our very favorite bands and have been for some time now. And of course before Fencemeister Tim Presley got out the whitewash, we were loving what he was doing in the more somber but highly uplifting settings of Darker My Love.

So it's a no-brainer (convenient for us) that when we just now came across Famous Class's Less Artists More Condos (LAMC) issue #12, we would drop all we were doing (sorry 'bout the dishes, Darling) and post it prontito. If you haven't yet picked up the most recent WF triumph, the Ty Segall-produced For The Recently Found Innocent, you should start to click most ricky tick. (And of course, check out LAMC #11, with Segal bandmate Mikal Cronin here.)

Perhaps we're not yet enamored of the work of White Fence touring guitarist Jack Name (aka John Webster Johns) quite as much, but that doesn't mean we won't be or you shouldn't be. So check out the second widgeted tune below if you're so inclined.

Enough jabber. Cue the ears.

Thumbs Up, Ty Segall

We're thinking about glamming three dots under our right eye(s), too.
Not sure about the lipfrost, though. Thoughts?

The first, excellent, psychpop psingle from San Francisco rocker Ty Segall's forthcoming (August 26) seventeen (17)-song LP Manipulator is all over the webs today, mainly thanks to Seattle's KEXP blog. So thanks (mainly) to Seattle's KEXP blog.

And in case you missed it, here's Ty and band performing "Feel" on Conan last night. (It's fun watching long-time sidekick and ppfave Mikal Cronin bassing the groove. That recent freeb we posted is still there, as are a bunch of his songs we linked you to.)

Catch-Up: Built to Spill, Amusement Parks on Fire, Flight, Ty Segall, Autolux, Gross Relations, Thee Oh Sees, Unlovables, Kung Fu Monkeys, et. al. . .

We're continuing to work our way back through our long list of unposted yet highly pleasing songs. This third set runs the gamut from present day to a year or more ago. You can find the first set here and the second here. Many thanks to Insound and IODA for making the songs below available. In addition to the fact that we very much like-to-love each precious ditty, these songs have something else in common: when you left-click each one, a dialogue box will open, giving you the choice either to listen or to save. (Please feel free to do both.) Yahoo Media Player will not pick these up, so you will not see the cute little "Play" arrows in this post. If that disappoints you, well, that makes us very sad. Happy listening.
